Good looking dolly, and good advice from Bill. If the dolly has a locking pin on the swivel plate, make sure it is unlocked with your toad loaded, and as Bill said, make sure your steering wheel is locked while towing on the dolly.

I have the Rvpluscard issued by PFJ, the entire bill must be paid monthly, no carry over, strictly a charge card, and I do not go inside for fuel purposes, only to purchase anything else that I would like. Had to be a member of GS to acquire the card.

Good looking unit, and welcome to the forum. I see that you have been a member of FMCA for a couple of years now, don't be shy of the forum. Happy tales and trails!

Cooper is a great company, I have used their tires on my autos for years, but so far not on the MH's. I have used Toyo's on the coaches and have had good luck with them also.

Thanks Carl, my daughter and son in law are in Wears Valley this week, predictions are not too gloomy there, they will be leaving on Friday, same day I will arrive there. Herman, Bristol speedway is opening up for campers that are evacuating the storm, that's about 50 miles north of Knoxville Tn. There are 5 known good repair facilities in Knoxville and many mobile service tech's in the area. I know a couple of them personally, so be sure to call me. At wears Valley I am only 30 miles from Knoxville and can meet you if you do need me. I'm not an RV Tech, but if I can't fix it, I can do diagnostics and pinpoint what is actually wrong with most units.

Yes, I am in Alabama, I am leaving tomorrow morning for Pigeon Forge, will be on in Chattanooga about 1:00 PM and will spend the night there. If you have problems, please call me, I will be glad to alter some plans to come3 and give help, be sure to write my number down, or if you have a smart phone, list it in your contacts, if you have lost it, just look back at the PM that I sent you, it is my cell phone, which goes everywhere that I go.

If the generator cranks on the house batteries, this is true, just keep those chassis batteries up by whatever means.
-
If the storm is headed into your area, Forget the house batteries for now! Put the external charger on the "CHASSIS" batteries, that is the ones that cranks and runs the coach, make sure to secure the clamps on the battery connection so they can not fall off or be jarred loose, using wire ties or anything that will no conduct electricity, also make sure that the battery charger can not fall or turn over and cause any kind of shortage. Leave everything off inside the coach that uses 12 volts, lights, fridge etc. Get a bag of ice to put into the fridge to keep items there cool. Crank the generator to power as few items as possible except the battery charger that is supposed to be charging the chassis batteries, if you can get a 20 or more amp charger to put on the chassis batteries will be better than the 10 amp, but if you cant find a larger one, another 10 amp on the same batteries will not hurt anything because 12 volts is direct current. Crank the coach and check to make sure that the chassis batteries are on the upward climb up to 14 volts, if so leave off any thing that will pull against the chassis batteries, and get going away from that storm.

Fuel stops at the flying J. Any discounts on fuel
kaypsmith replied to basspond51's topic in Membership/Benefits
I can buy diesel at the local Murphy Oil, that's "Walmart" for 22 cents less than the local FJ, but next to impossible to drive a 42 footer plus toad onto that lot and get positioned close enough to put fuel into the rig. The four wheelers will do anything possible to help make it worse. During the off season months that we do not travel, I buy five gallons at a time, take that home and put that into the coach weekly until full. -
Agreed Bill, the extra strength does not make the towing rig capable of towing 10,000#, but the next one that I buy may be, and I might want to tow a Hummer when I buy my next coach. LOL!

Fuel stops at the flying J. Any discounts on fuel
kaypsmith replied to basspond51's topic in Membership/Benefits
The thought came to me, but the shirt he was wearing had a name, I supposed that it was his, along with service manager just below. I sent an e-mail to the company, who in turn sent their apologies along with, he was only following rules. That's when I swore to never travel without a spare filter, and never ever frequent a Loves truck stop again. As I said, the coach limped the longest 12 miles that I ever remember, there were no cab companies available and there was no toad on that trip, that wont happen again, another reason for others that don't think that a toad is necessary, I had decided to rent a car instead on this trip. -
Here is someone who claims to have one. https://powerparts.ecrater.com/p/16072235/onan-201-3388-03-rotor-emerald-bge

Many times, I hope not to have to use it because of losing a well, but have needed to use because of a well pump failure, and so many times because of power failure.

Fuel stops at the flying J. Any discounts on fuel
kaypsmith replied to basspond51's topic in Membership/Benefits
I guess that I'm just lucky, I use Pilot/Flying J whenever possible, I have the GS rvplus card which saves .08 per gallon, and .05 on all gasoiline products. Here in the southeast, most of their stops are within 3 to 5 cents and with the discount I do save money. I quit Loves when I was in need of a fuel filter replacement, Loves told me that they neither worked on Busses or Motorhomes, I spotted my filter on their shelf and asked to buy it so I could replace myself, was told, we have already told you that we don't work on your type. I limped back 12 miles to a Petrol stop, where they were glad to accommodate me. My fuel filter is super easy to replace, I sit on a stool at the rear of the bus and change the filter inside a door that is designed for changing that filter, only has one which is a two stage filter. Soooooooooo, Loves gets no more of my business for anything even if it is cheaper. -
The A frame just isn't as pretty! LOL! I have used the A frame for years, my wife can follow my directions and put the hitch onto the ball with no problems. When I bought the Jeep Wrangler a couple months ago, I found a Roadmsater Stowmaster on ebay at a good price and bought it. It is still an A frame by design which is styled to fold sideways as opposed to ststeelraight up like the traditional style A frame. The slide is Stainless steel, which I really like. So there is some still some options out there.

I'm surprised that no one else has pointed this out, going from 275 70 to 275 80 will increase the height of the sidewall by 10%, 275 width is pretty close to 11 inches, which means that adding 10%, is pretty close to 1.1 inches, which increases the diameter to close to 2.2 inches. So you must compensate the clearance around the tires, be sure to check if there will be enough room for this excess height and width. Also as Bill said this will not effect the ride height but will increase the overall height by about 1.1 inches, also will cause the top of the tire to be that 1.1 inches closer to the chassis. Also will change the circumference by about 6.9 inches, being 0n a steer tire will not effect speedometer reading, but will if you ever want to move them to the drive axel. The extra height could possibly help ride because of the ability to flex the sidewall a little more.

Amen Bill! Way back in the late sixties, I bought a city bus to transform into a diner, I had to move that beast 80 miles, and over a mountain, the truck was a 3/4 dodge with a six cylinder motor auto transmission. Going up the mountain the motor got so slow I could literally count the rpm's, going down the mountain, there was no stopping it, thank God, he was looking after me, because I was praying all the way down that mountain that if I survived, there would never be another stupid move like that again.

For what it is worth, I will be in Pigeon Forge Tenn., Sept. 15 through 22, if no help by then, I will drive to Raleigh to try to find your problem. I will PM you with e-mail and telephone number, I sincerely hope that your problem has been resolved before then but I would be glad to help if not resolved by then. On the note of driving 50 miles, since yours is diesel, the ECM and gauges and turn signals will be the only thing requiring 12 volts from the chassis batteries, as long as the excursion can take place in full daylight. I was on the way to Florida several years ago, 150 miles into the trip, the alternator went out. I stopped at the first Walmart, bought a 20 amp charger and a 25 foot extension cord. I ran the extension cord out the nearest window to the battery compartment, placed the charger in the area, clipped + to +, and - to -, wire tied the clamps to the battery cables in such a manner that they could not be removed unless cut. I then plugged the extension cord into a working outlet inside the coach, with generator running, drove the coach 225 miles to my destination, making sure that no excess 12 volts was needed. Will do again if ever needed.

Rich, let it all hang out!

Yes he did, but no info about year model or any other particulars except that it was a manual. I would assume that after finding that it is a 2004, and standard transmission, that it would be ok to place on a tow dolly with the front wheels on the dolly, since it is front wheel drive, the rear wheels are always being towed anyway. While doing some research before answering the question, there are many complaints about the standard tranny having many problems, nothing specific about what causes this, but I would think that is why VW chose not to give any specifics about towing that car, again, only speculation on my part. Older models of beetles were rear wheel drive, that is why I asked for more specifics.

Does this mean that it is standard shift? Knowing this will help in anyone giving suggestions.

The satelites do not have a clue where any GPS device is located. They only transmit time accurately, they do not receive anything back from the GPS'. The GPS uses a program embedded into the GPS that takes the time signals and then calculates the time coordinates from the different satellite's to pinpoint your location on the map which is embedded into each GPS, the process is known as triangulation, and has been around since the Korean war. Now the cell phone is exactly opposite, it pings the towers nearby, then again time is used to determine your whereabouts, that is why you can be located as long as you are in range of any cell phone tower. So, GPS is nondetectable, while the cell phone is. Your dash cam should not be any concern either, unless it is like the systems on big trucks that records and transmits the trucks every movement, and most of us private citizens can't afford one of those anyway.

Who, What, When, Where or Just Lets Talk

Hey Joe, if you are passing through Alabama again, I-65 south of Montgomery, Ft. Deposit, check out Priesters Pecans, best praline pecans I have ever ate. They are online if you want to ckmout. -
The unit does not require a 1000 watt inverter, it only states that it will run on a 1000 watt, it does state that a PSW is not required, it will run on MSW (modified sine wave). This option does look appealing, and if I owned a 1200 no-cold, I would certainly consider going this route over changing out the unit in lieu of replacing the whole fridge. Not an endorsement because I have never seen this type conversion, but if I were in the market I would look hard into this route.
