  1. Wildebill. Try that in Texas and you'll be paying more than $76.00!
  2. I average 11,500 miles per year and have put as much as 17,000 in a year (last year)! You can't say that the previous owner averaged 10,500 per year. We know nothing about the use of the coach! Take Charley or Jon as an example, how many miles does the President and VP, put on their coaches during their time in office? Then lets say, they keep the coaches for 4 more years and when sold they have 150,000 miles each. How do you average that? Since all the service records are available, the odds are that he remodeled it during the previous 19 years and I would not hesitate to buy it! Carl
  3. As for hangers, use electric ties or if you don't have that, try rope or tape. Copper in an RV generally = propane. Wonder if it was put in as an option for a gas outdoor grill !? Carl
  4. Driver side front is where my air compressor is at and there are 3 fittings. One female for airing tires or whatever, two males for dumping air/moisture! Note: Don't dump moisture at 6:00am in RV Park, you will not win friends! I have air connection next to 7 pin in rear! Carl
  5. Roger, you probably need to contact him direct. His last post was 2 March!!!

Great, now I understand what they was doing, when I had my 8 replaced last year....wanted to ask, but they where "knee deep" in coaches from Redmond. Thanks for the link! Carl
  7. Disregard Junction City, mind some where else!
  8. Herman, good morning. I'll call them Monday and get some! CCC is in Junction City, OR. They also carry parts for Beaver and CC! Carl
  9. Hi, Leary. Your right on about opinions! Been there and done that, 2 times in the 80's and again in 97'. Would I do it again? Yes! In a brand new coach? No way, because it takes more than, week end trips to work all the bugs out. Also, there is a learning curve in having a coach vs. trailer. I would wait until 17' and spend 16' traveling the lower 48, where you can get things fix, just about around every corner! In Alaska, there aren't that many people who own RV's to begin with, therefore it's generally a long wait to get parts ! First trip up? Take a Caravan! Carl

Brett. How does a ROLL-OUT help to determine if you have a high spot and the height of same? More than a little lost here! Carl
  11. Thank you for a quick and in depth answer! You have reinforced my thinking, that a 45' DP has no more business being in Maritime Provinces, than in Europe or NZ. Since I do want to see all of it and also carry my own hotel room, I will get a smaller ( 30 foot) coach for the trip and sell it afterwards! I did that for Alaska in 1997 and left it in Fairbanks, then flew home. Got $ 2,300 more than I paid for it ( Class C, 28' )! Later on, if you don't mind, I'll pick your brain! I'm also a birder and love photography! Enjoy the rest of your trip!
  12. Trynforpar. Welcome to the Forum! I've been trying for par, for 25 years now! LOL I got mine in center, about 4 inches from top on Coach and same on toad. Newer had an issue! Good Luck and safe travel. Carl
  13. ObedB. Bragging? No, you have every right to be proud of what you did! At 70+, getting on a coach roof to begin with, is a major undertaking, I'm not ambulatory enough to do what you did. I would love to be able to remove the Dish traveler I got and replace with a Direct TV. Thank you for the post and as Herman said, Congratulation! Carl
  14. That is a place I have wanted to go. You have a 40' and I a 45', will there be a problem for me? On roads and campgrounds? Do you reserve ahead, before you go? Thanks Carl
  15. A lot off interesting info that I did not know! Thank you. That being said, if your Bank account is deep enough and your **** bent on having both floor plan and HP...have a DP Custom made for you! The biggest engine I have seen is a 725 Volvo in a DP. MPG, I would guess is around 3 to 4. Just remember that even a Custom Coach, has it's limitations! Back to normal. AMC will allow you a choice of engines on the Tradition, Eagle and Heritage, also a floor plan that you like from a different year. In other words, I have been in contact with them about building me a Tradition 45' Y, that's the floor plan I have now and a 600 Cummins. Have not been quoted a price yet from factory! Carl
  16. I'm a widow also. Found that with time, I went back to my normal way of traveling. I have had some white knuckle drives, but figured that if a 18 wheeler could do it, so could I. Still a big country out there, go slow and enjoy the scenery! I don't know if FMCA advocates this anymore, but it used to be that if we had more than 3- 5 vehicles behind us on a one lane road, find a place to pull over and let them pass (safety first)! I still do. Good Luck.... Carl
  17. Wayne. The Allen wrench is a 3/16. Good Luck Carl
  18. J. Are you talking about a patio awning? I have toppers on my slides, but never heard of one that also extends to cover a window! If it's Patio, it sounds like a A&E 8500. Carl
  19. Ditto that! USAF & US Army 2/61 - 8/63 Nam ASA
  20. I have a Sentry at the house, built in someplace, By accident I started collecting watches in 1965. My father bought me a Daytona "Paul Newman" Rolex # 38 off 125. My dad passed in 83' & I got his watches...had them and my Rolex (that lived in a drawer for 18 years) appraised...I became a collector! I also, have a Sentry in the coach, because watches don't like to live in a freezer! Like yours, it's portable, but I don't have a dog. Just a 20ga! Sentry also makes very good gun safes. Carl
  21. Charles. Welcome to the Forum! I think you'll find that your chassis and engine is a 2006. In 07' there was 2 Beaver Contessa ( new model) on the line to be built as a 07' model, when Safari who owned Beaver, went and filed for Bankruptcy. Pre liquidation of Beaver, the few people that was left, decided to finish building the 2 Beavers on line and sell them as 08's. At the time of liquidation of Beaver and Safari in 09', both Contessas could not be found and presumed that they where sold! You have one off the two Contessas ever built by Beaver! Congratulation!!! The only place that I know off that you might get parts is CCC ( Country Coach Connection) in Junction City, Oregon. Carl
  22. Little confused, a 400 Cummins=$50K, but a 450 Cummins=$39K?! Lot of money. Also ref. 400 + 15% exceeds the Allison 3000 rating. A 450 runs with a 3000! When I spoke with Cummins last year about increasing HP on my 425, they could do it, but recommended against it, because the gearing within my 3000 would have to be re calibrated for the extra HP and that would also change the computer settings for the engine and tranny. The cost was not worth the extra 8-10% gain....I was actually looking for more torque, not HP. Carl
  23. CAT (wish they still did DP market), Cummins, Detroit. I only deal in RV, not over the road 18 wheelers! This is a MOTOR HOME FORUM and as such, I don't much care, what engine does what, at 300,000 miles! Having said that, sorry, I'm not a "Brand" type of person, I care more about getting from point A to B and did not buy a DP based on mpg. A DP rides better, handles better and pulls better than a gasser, period! It costs more, way more than a gas rig to purchase and maintain, but that's the trade off to get what you want, if you can afford it. The comment about "I don't like CAT", stupid! Ask Ray, cats are nice!!! My 2 cents. Carl

    Wheel Bearings

Brett. After walk around and sniff test, all seems to be OK. Don't have any records from original owners, so for peace of mind, I will have the grease replaced in Amarillo on my way to Indiana! The same applies to adjustment of bearings. Not just the front, also steering axle and tag. As always, thanks for the info. Carl
  25. Herman. How will your arms feel tomorrow? I don't want to find out that I can only do 64! LOL
