I just looked at Sam's Club and they have AGM 6 volt golf cart batteries for $179. I'm in Cookville Tn. No fluid needed, sealed, no corrosion.

Speedometer Dip Switch Settings: 2005 Holiday Rambler Navigator

Is it a VDO? If it is, I had one on my last coach. Called VDO and they sent me a chart for the dip switch positions. -
Sulfur Smell From Hot Water Tank
desertdeals69 replied to tireman9's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
I would use hydrogen peroxide. Empty fresh water tank and fill hose and pour a pt of hp in the hose and then hook up to spigot and fill your tank with about 10 gallons. Run your water pump with a hot water faucet open so as to fill the hot water heater. Let it sit for and hour or two. You won't have to flush so just go ahead and use the water system normally. -
When I had my last coach painted they wanted to sell me Diamond Shield for $1250. I asked how much to repaint the front end and that was $825. Since they gave me touch up paint of all the colors I passed on the DS. When I sold that coach after 5 years and 45K miles, just minor touch up and it looked new.

I have seen rear doors on some of the new coaches. Some have the hinge on the bottom so when it opens there are "steps" to walk down assuming the coach is still right side up.

We had "business cards" printed with a picture of our motorhome and the pertinent info. We are almost out of those and we will be getting new ones made. We have recently changed coaches but since we had the identical paint job done on the new one we can still use the old cards.

We'll be in Fair Play, SC at Thousand Trails. Hoping for clear skies.

Replacing Motorhome Flooring
desertdeals69 replied to mcrane@speedconnect.com's topic in Modifications
I redid my last coach with bamboo wood. Like was mentioned in an earlier post the core is wood not ground up newspaper. It had cork backing and was not fastened down, it was floating with a 3/8 clearance at the walls. Had it for about 4 years and still looked good when I sold it in April. -
I change my own tires. I bought professional tools from Ken Tool, made for changing 22.5 tires. A little more sophisticated than tire irons and a little easier.

My ISB has a accumulator tank on the slober tube and returns the oil to the engine. Its a 98 275hp and was made that way.

Usually the master cylinders are rebuildable. I have done many.

I use Mike's Custom Painting in Bremen Indiana. He has painted 2 coaches for me and does a fantastic job. Stands behind his work 100% and very reasonable.

Replacing Holding Tank Valves
desertdeals69 replied to Joeandkathyray's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
One cable for each valve. The valves are made to hook the cable to, I saw a valve at Bontraggers a few weeks ago. -
You can peel off old Dicor. The new Dicor self leveling will smooth itself out and look good.

Replacing Holding Tank Valves
desertdeals69 replied to Joeandkathyray's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
I have seen cables on the dump valves. Simular to remote control cables on outboard motors. Morse and Teleflex make them. I believe the type is a bulkhead mount at one end with a t handle. -
Fuel Economy-- Was This A Primary Consideration?
desertdeals69 replied to mweiner's topic in Type B Motorhomes
I am concerned with fuel milage. I want to get the best milage for what I am comfortable driving. I have added another 90 gal fuel tank, when I filled it my total gallonage was 186. At 10 mpg that gives me least a 1600 mile range leaving plenty of reserve. I also carry 96 gallons of fuel in my toad which is a 1/2 ton Silverado. I use gas buddy for the cheapest fuel and generally go to the station with the truck as a lot of times you would have hard time maneuvering a motorhome. This allows me to seek the least expensive fuel in the country.- 43 replies

Probably an engine and trans swap and converting from steel springs to air ride, going from 19.5 wheels to 22.5 wheels and 15 in brake drums. Also I've done a independent front suspension from a solid front axle.

Fuel Economy-- Was This A Primary Consideration?
desertdeals69 replied to mweiner's topic in Type B Motorhomes
Where would you sleep 6? My point is that we can travel comfortably with six and get 10 mpg. You travel with 2 and get only 18 mpg.- 43 replies

Buy from motivated sellers and know what you are buying. Always pay with cash, its a great bargaining tool.

If you use an auxiliary charger be sure it is a smart charger the can sense the level of charge in the battery bank and control the charge rate.

In the last 42 years of motor homing I had about 10 coaches. I buy low and sell high. I have made money on some of them. On my last motorhome I sold for almost 3 times book, used it for 17 years and 145k miles and bought my current one for 1/2 book. Modifying and up grading is a hobby of mine as I retired from the rv service industry in 1999.

Your van conversion needs to get over 30 mpg to equal my 36 ft which gets 10 mpg but is comfortable for 6 people.- 43 replies

Did Full Timing Really Save You A Lot Of Money?
desertdeals69 replied to mweiner's topic in Full-timing
I agree 100%. I'm not full timing but spend about 7 months a year in the coach. I like spending some time at my home shop to upgrade and modify my coach and toads.
