We have enjoyed the Smithsonian and DC area, spending about a total of 20 weeks over about 10 trips, over the last 38 years, always staying at Greenbelt National park. We've never not found new things to see and do.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid Problems -- Any Ideas?
desertdeals69 replied to ultraglide's topic in Type A motorhomes
I don't think I would ever want an engine that requires DEF. -
My first car was on a trailer because it was an automatic. It was a big pain in the neck because of having to find a place to park it and move it there with the motorhome.

I have docking lights at the lower rear on the sides.

In Az the sales tax is figured on the price difference if the purchase is made at a dealership. If you buy used from a private party there is no sales tax. I would not chance doing something outside the law as far as registration. There were a number of people in Colorado that did that and got caught and were fined tens of thousands of dollars.

Sam's also has a 122 for $112.68. I think the next time I change I will try them.

Usually the user starts the equalize process because they tell you to disconnect all 12 volt items because of the high voltage used to do the process. Make sure the inverter/charger is set for the correct capacity, if set to low it could overcharge.

Purging Contaminants From Water Lines
desertdeals69 replied to larrydyork's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
Use hydrogen peroxide and it will completely disinfect the system and is not harmful to anything. -
I have always just used the carwash soap on the tires and rinse with spot free water. I prefer to polish my Alcoa wheels to a mirror shine so the attention is removed from the tires!!

What is the brand of inverter/charger? How is it wired?
-
I use the Surge Guard with the remote lcd readout. I have never found a problem so far, but glad to hear that it does its job.

Mine were 15 years old when I had to smack them and since I turned them around they have been working for another 6 years and still going.
-
Make sure the flooring has a wood core and not ground cardboard like residential flooring.
-
I also smack the fixture and the lights came on. I thought that there was a loose wire so I took the fixture out and checked. No loose wire. Then the next time I met with a factory rep he explained what was actually happening and try flipping the tubes. They have been working for several years.
-
Try removing the tubes and turning them end for end. What can happen is the mercury has settled and no longer starts the process. I learned that trick from a Thin Lite rep and it worked for me.

Thetford Toilet Water Valve Issue
desertdeals69 replied to Mikefpt's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
If it is made of plastic I would upgrade to a china bowl toilet. They work better and are easier to clean. -
Phoenix to Las Vegas & San Antonio to Carlsbad NM
desertdeals69 replied to ultraglide's question in Destinations/Attractions
If you want less hills go west on I 10 to Vicksburg rd, north to 72 and on to Parker then 95 through Lake Havasu City, and you can wave to me as you go by!, left on I 40 to 9 miles west of Needles then north to Searchlight and on to Boulder highway and west into Las Vegas. Just a note, you cannot see anything as you go over the bridge in front of the dam because there is a tall wall to prevent you from gawking and slowing down. The route I just describe does not take you over that bridge. The road is pretty much flat. -
There is pros and cons for using the product on anything. As far as I know the two are the same. When I have seen them at the trade shows the manufacturer indicated that they were the same. Maybe Tireman can comment.

We always used Eagles Nest for 2 months at a time for 5 years.

Inverter Circuit Retrofit For Residential Refrigerator
desertdeals69 replied to GaryMBlythe's topic in Electrical
All you need to do is add a small PSW inverter 800 watt or so and keep your inverter/charger you already have to do the charging and other duties. They should be available for $200 to $300. -
One of the problems we had was the water would form ice in the venturi and shut down the carb. This was in cooler temp but not freezing. Another thing was that you had to use purified water because after a while the chemical buildup would plug up the water orifice.

Brakemaster Brake Line
desertdeals69 replied to fasteddie123's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Usually a small tank is added and a proportional air relay which is controlled by the rear brake pressure so that if anything should happen to the air line going to the toad it will not effect the coach rear brakes. I beleive there is a federal regulation on this. -
I worked with water injection back in the 70's on gas engines. The timing could be advanced slightly and you could use lower octane fuel. I don't know what it does on a diesel.

Because of the difficulty of finding the Michelin 235/80r22.5 I went with the Toyo 245/75r22.5. About $120 per tire cheaper that on the Michelin program. Seem to ride OK.
