3 years ago I bought a 98 Discovery 36 with a Cummins ISB 275 6 speed Allison trans. 99,895 miles on it and was is very good condition with the original interior. I've worked on RVs at our shop for some 38 years. I knew that the engine injector pump should be changed and the lift pump replaced. I did modifications to some of the systems, doubled the fuel capacity, installed rack and electric winch to hold a spare tire, upgraded from 30 to 50 amp service, installed 800 watts solar and 4 100 amp lithium batteries. Full body paint with 4 coats of clear all baked on. I tow a Silverado 4x4 with M&G brake system, its a little slow going up hills but I've out grown the need to be the first to the top and I enjoy getting around 10 mpg.

Roger, If you think about it this way, the longer the radius the more rotational leverage you have on the brake mechanism. Like pulling a nail with a longer handle on the hammer. I proved it when I did my conversion, even arguing with the chassis engineers. They finally agreed with me. My original disc brakes were air over hydraulic were too weak thats when I went to air suspension and air brakes on bigger axles.

Illinois motor fuel tax violation

I would say that you should register everything legally and not have to worry about it. -
As far as brake requirements It does make a difference. I had a Spartan diesel pusher chassis that I converted 19.5 wheels to 22.5 wheels to improve the ride. Before I did it I talked with 2 engineers at Spartan and was told it wouldn't be a problem with the brakes because I was not increasing the weight. I went ahead and did it and the brake efficiency decreased. Did some thinking and figured out that the increase in radius changed the leverage on the brakes. I then went and changed the steel springs to air ride and larger axles with air brakes and solve the problem.

If the diameter is larger the brakes have to be improved.

Do they have metal frame on the edge? On my doors they are fiberglass outside and aluminum inside with foam in the middle and aluminum frame on the edge. I was having trouble keeping the screws on the brackets tight so I pop riveted in and drilled a couple of extra holes and pop riveted them. Haven't had any come loose for several years.

I went from AGMs to lithium and the performance is outstanding. Runs over twice as long and charges in half the time.

Is the key off? If it has to be on pull the ign fuse. -
When I had to replace my lower hose I went to the auto parts store with my tape measure and looked through all the hoses in stock and found the right diameter and bends and then cut to fit.

As soon as I can find some heat shrink I am going to do that. I looked all over my shop and didn't have any large enough.

This is my lithium battery install. Used 1/4 x 1 inch copper bars. These batteries have the same footprint as a golf cart battery.

Once the air is out of the bag the bump stop in the bag will limit the travel. The frame will not drop any further unless a tire goes flat.

Is the cranking reset button a circuit breaker? If so test it for current load or try another one. Years ago I was a Kohler dealer but my techs did the work so my experience its limited.

Since my previous post Jan 30 I have changed my 6 AGMs for 4 100 amp Battle Born lithium batteries. I reset the charging parameters on the Xantrex SW 3012 and the Renogy 40 amp MPPT charge controller. The performance is outstanding. Full charge last at least twice as long and it takes about half the time to recharge.

Travel on I-15 from Las Vegas to St. George Utah

Be sure to use purified water in the mister, if you don't the radiator will clog with minerals. I had that experience back in the 70s with water injection in the carburetor and on the radiator on the Dodge M series chassis and 440-3 engine. -

I also have See Level, works good. -
We are ocean lovers also. Been to a lot of beaches with the motorhome from Key West to Bay of Fundy to Alaska to Padre Island and all along the west coast. Been to Hawaii over 30 times. In the last 5 years been cruising to places where you can't drive a motorhome. 30 days to Tahiti, 49 days to the Mediterranean, 83 days to Russia, Asia, Australia, Fiji. Next January going for 77 days around South America and Antarctic. Lots to see and do.

Back in the 70s we traveled all 48 states at least once and many of them 2 or more times in 3 1/2 years. This was during the summer as I was teaching then. Lots to see and do. We used to write to the states we were going to and most of them sent us maps and brochures on things to see and do.

No sales tax on used vehicles if purchased from a private party. Bought dozens of vehicles over the years.
-
If you are in Az and its used, you buy from a private party there is not sales tax due. This is for any vehicle. Trailers have a perm plate and a one time fee.
-
This type of construction seems to be more prevalent on trailers than motorhomes.

Seems to me I recall that I set my AGMs to flooded but its been several years ago. I just installed lithium batteries and set up the charging on both the MPPT controller and the Xantrex SW 3000 according to the respective tech support. Set charge voltages for each mode.

Alcoa is a company. Wheels is just a very small part of the things they manufacture.
-
My inner duals are machined Alcoa, I like the trueness of aluminum over the steel. My spare is also machined Alcoa. Of course the sides that show are polished.
-
All my tires are the same size. I located the spare, 235/80 22.5 mounted on an Alcoa, under the propane tank, right side second compartment from the rear. I mounted an electric winch on a framework just under the propane tank and it picks the tire off the ground up to the mount studs. I also have a Tire Minder transmitter on the spare as well as the spare on my Silverado 1500 I tow.
