  1. We use kitty Litter sometimes, it absorbs moisture well; but some formulas will also get kind of gummy so you need to keep adding some and hope for the best. One may have to find a friendly farmer or call the tow truck for a little pull. Kind of remember Perry Ga. and Gillette WY. being a little slick! Rich.
  2. jleamont, You posted a question regarding severe service duty drums at the end of you tire post: "Anyone have any experience with the Louvered severe duty brake drums?" I use slotted rotors on my 3/4ton truck set up to haul 12000+ loads and the brake fade is much less. So if heat build up is decreased using louvered drums that would be a plus. Look up the manufactures information on the size you need and see what there specifications and structural integrity information is. Rich.
  3. This change in legislation will not affect Coach Owners, (unless there are some applications I’m unaware of) but if you need to replace one somewhere. Read the fallowing. Enacted by the U.S. Department of Energy, the 2015 Small Motor Legislation requires motor manufacturers to stop producing motors that do not meet the new efficiency standards by March 2015. This legislation affects small general-purpose motors between 1/4HP–3HP, with an open construction and NEMA design. There are a number of benefits, but there is a tradeoff – See last paragraph. Benefits of new Motors • The more efficient, cooler-running motor along with the Class H wire, Class F insulation material and Class F lead wires helps provide a longer-lasting motor. • Increased winding size provides a cooler running motor, improves efficiency, extends bearing life and reduces motor insulation degradation. • High-grade electrical steel reduces energy losses and improves efficiency. • Run capacitor provides winding with increased energy to help improve efficiency. • Tighter machining tolerance between the stator rotor reduces magnetic flux losses. • Lower-resistance rotors with a special slot design and higher-grade aluminum bars help improve performance and efficiency. • Some motors may be longer and include an additional capacitor (cap start/cap run) to increase efficiency. So it you have a tight area for the mounted motor it might prove helpful to get one of the older motors!!!! Rich.
  4. Bennie, The kind of coolant and possible additives depends on the engine series and if it has sleeved cylinders. You mentioned that it is a Cummins, but is it a ISB ISC or ISL? You can purchase test strips from Cummings for the coolant. Rich.
  5. Sounds like a plan. Did you find or get information on where and what filters need to be replaced and type of fluid used from Monaco? Rich.
  6. dianejohnson63, Welcome to the FMCA forum! I'm just a little confused, but that is nothing new! You mentioned that the shower was not working on 12 volt in the title line, but then mentioned that all the 12 volt items where working. The shower should work if you connect to city / campground water and all the proper valves are opened and the water heater PC board is powered by the 12 volt supply. When you are connected to shore power, you should have a monitor panel located in the coach that will give you the status of the shore power and if the 12 volt charger is working, water, holding tanks and LP status. Rich.
  7. James, There is a reservoir for the power steering pump, that is often located in the rear of the coach. Some models use the transmission. Contact Monoco with your chassis information to get power steering information. Link to a PDF Brochure for your model. http://media.rvusa.com/library/Holiday_Rambler2005scepter.pdf Contact information-www.holidayrambler.com (800) 245-4778 Built on a Road Master Chassis Rich.
  8. Chief, You did not mention the year of the coach, some of your model come with a Polar pack option. there is no mention of additional insulation in the holding tank area or if there are heating options for the holding tanks. So you might get some additional by call the coach builder. Looks like the holding tanks are enclosed, if that is the case the 200 watt heaters might make a good option. Look into if they have temperature controls, do not want to much heat in the bays. Check on where the plumbing is run to get a good idea of where lines might be more prone to freezing. Rich.
  9. Welcome to the FMCA forum to both of you! The DW and I purchased a used class C when we where in our late 20's and early 30's. We decided to save up for a house before we got married and found the one we still live in 6 weeks before the wedding. Kind of a meeting of 2 worlds, She is a city girl and I lived most of my life in the country. She helped me enjoy cultural events in the concrete canyons and I exposed her to the tree covered canyons and country culture. Enjoy life as time pass way to fast, but we both know that we and the kids have enjoyed the odd couple they know as mom and dad. Rich.
  10. I just was posting on the forum and had this flash back, regarding the fact that because there are coaches that have the batteries for the coach and the chassis tucked into some interesting locations-road service personal see many more cars that need a boost / jump start at times then RV's. The key to not having a low battery issue in a coach turn into a nightmare is to ASK the dealer or your service center show you and explain how it should be done for your coach! Been at a convention or 2 where the owner(s) needed to call for a jump start and the service looked at what they perceived as a good spot to connect some jumper cables ONLY to blow out some very large fuses with out realizing what happened. Then with some luck they succeed in finding a good connection for the job of starting the coach. The owner is happy and travels on down the road to a destination, park and hook up for the night an then realize that many items no longer work. Leveling Jacks, Slides, Inverter and the list can become very long. So please do yourself a favor and find out just how to do the job and pass it on to the person trying to help. Rich.
  11. Partsrod, The knob/ rotary style switches used in most Washer / dryers have a cam follower pin placed in the switch knob assembly. Because these units are made of plastic-the plastic drys out over time. This leads to cracks developing in the area of the pin is anchored. Should you be handy working on small items you might be able to use some plastic epoxy around the pin area. NOTE: that little pin likes to fall out when the knob is damaged and one is taking it apart, so one might place some tape or have a small magnet for retrieving little parts to remove the pin before it just disappears. I have lost one or two over the years and your left with no good way to replace it unless you have some small round steel metal stock. Take pictures and some good notes if it is something you have never ventured to repair!! Work with the unit unplugged-could make for a very bad day!!!!! I'm notorious for venturing into places not even repair shops go. Still have that little boy curiosity in me. Rich.
  12. Interstate Battery information link. http://www.interstatedealers.com/pdf/201535.pdf Rich.
  13. DD, did you get hydrometer readings of the batteries your where testing? Could offer a reason for the readings being different. Got to ponder you question a little longer!! Will see if there is any information on the battery cavity size and plate construction somewhere, to get a good comparison of any physical differences. Rich.
  14. rwilli, Could you post the Make, Model and Year of your coach for the group. Rich.
  15. Tim, there have been reports of some C-12 and13 engine failures and turbo(s). Can not remember any post regarding C-15 series. Rich.
  16. Gayle, Just got back on the forum-been moving the last 18 to 24 in. of snow nature thought we needed! Thing is the big old tractor I use to run the snow blower just dropped a valve. One more project to an ever growing list. Glad the thing reset !! No payment needed, but if you know someone with a large number of empty gravel cars used by the railroad. You can send them to the Northeast and we will fill them with some extra snow as we are running out of space to pile it.LOL Rich.
  17. pusher, There are a number of good weather radios. We are currently using one from LLBean. This is a link to a Tornado chart. It lest the most active mouths by year. You will notice that things change some. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/online/monthly/newm.html THE KEY to weather information when one is traveling, is knowing what County you are in and the state you are traveling through. Warnings are by county for the most part. Know what a wall cloud looks like as the weather front changes. Mr. Tom B. is our resident meteorologist. Rich Note, when the ground moves - that makes me nervous !! LOL
  18. Gayle, Sounds like a logic circuit issue. Could you post the Make and Model of your Display for the group. Hopping is just needs to be reset-if it has that option. Can you find the power fuse feeding power to the system? If so remove the fuse or unplug the system. Anyway that you can remove all power to it. After a time re-power the system and see if it works !??? Rich.
  19. Could you post the Make, Model and maybe the Serial number of your unit for the group? Rich.
  20. Joe, Welcome to the FMCA Forum! First check to heater tube in the furnace is clean, with no mud dubber nests or other items. You will need to remove the ignition unit. If you move the air mixture-make sure you mark how wide the air mixture slots are before hand. With black smoke coming out the heat vent the mixture is running very rich, often caused by some thing in the fuel mixture area or in the tube itself. All the adjustments need to be set correctly for the unit to operate properly. Look in your paperwork for the owners manual for your furnace. If that black smoke smells like plastic, you need to have some other work done on the blower fan assembly Rich. Note: Make sure the Vent tube is not damaged or rusted allowing the hot air to burn the wall of the coach!!

  23. Twowhlrcr, Welcome to the FMCA Forum! Take a look at this web sight. they may be able to give you some good information regarding your questions regarding the use of the OEM control panel. http://www.bestconverter.com/MagnetekParallax-63007300-Upgrade-Kit_c_64.html This is a link to some wiring information that might help. http://windsurf.mediaforte.com/roadtrek/magnetek/Magnetek_6332_wiring_diagram.html Rich.
  24. Thanks Allegiance !! I needed a good chuckle !! Rich.
  25. ultraglide, Thanks for posting the information on how one knows what to look for and your issue is a good reason to make sure what a person is pumping is good. Our coach is an old one and I keep feeling better as time passes about just keeping the old girl !!!! Think if it was a new one and used DEF, I would always carry some, just to keep away from the pumps at the diesel islands. With you coach being so new, I hope that there is some help regarding the fees to get things fixed !! Rich.
