Towing A 2014 Nissan Frontier SV Truck
hermanmullins replied to marthabarnes's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Martha, We towed a Chevrolet 1500 Silverado with a drive shaft disconnect many miles with out a problem. Ours was installed by Drive Shaft King in Dallas, TX. I don't have David's Number but you may goggle it, "Drive Shaft King". Herman -
George, Ditto on the Welcome. Custer and Hill City, SD have several RV parks. Check with rvparkreviews.com for the names. In the area there are Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument while Wyoming has Devils Tower, Thermopolis Hot Springs, and a must see the Buffalo Bills History Center in Cody (at least one full day), Yellowstone and The Tetons. Just in those two states you have a world of great places to visit. I envy you on your trip. Have a great trip. Herman

Rich, thanks for the detailed report. It once again enforces my reasoning for having a shop work on my diesel engine. No guts on my part. Keep up these great reports. Herman

I have to go along with Rich. If a fuse blows, What Caused it to Blow???? If and when I replace a blown fuse and don't have the problem again. However if I replace the fuse (with the same amperage fuse) and it blows again then that is when I search for what causes it to fail. Increasing the amperage of the fuse is a really good way to find the source of the problem, put in the larger fuse, turn on the power and look for the smoke. Herman

I have two testers I made myself. I used them quite a few times at our Rally in Shreveport. I have one for 30 amp and one for 50 amp. On the 30 amp I can check L1, Neutral and Ground and also voltage. On the 50 amp I can check L1, L2, Neutral, Ground and Voltage. Both will check for faulty grounds. I will be glad to show pictures if you will PM me. Herman

buttster, I don't even want to think of the problems you had in school if this is your last name. I believe it will have something to do with the type of steering you have in the 2014 verses your 2008. I believe GM went back to the locking steering wheel. If it were my truck I would look at the M&G Engineering brake system. Air with no electric required. Herman

Harvey, anytime you have heaving of anything in a coach you should be concerned. What you may have are cabinets that were note secured properly from the factory are they may have lost some of their support. Either way further investigation is necessary. Good Luck. Herman

New Green Technology Sewage Elimination System
hermanmullins replied to JMGOLDEN's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
JM, Here we agree to disagree. I would rather put my holding tank contents down the sewer. If it is a septic system like we have, it will go through the process and out the Aerators and water the grass, Green. Or into the sewer system where it can be processed returned to a water source and back through the treatment system and back to the public water systems,to me that is Green and recycled. Also if what you described then this thing has got be cost prohibited. Installation must be a nightmare. Herman -
New Green Technology Sewage Elimination System
hermanmullins replied to JMGOLDEN's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
JM, I have to go along with the others. I am not sure I would like to follow a coach burning poop going down the highway. As mentioned before this must be a slow process where by the holding tank will be evacuated slowly and causing the residue to dry and cake on the sides of the tank. How long will your muffler last when it has poop and paper sent through it. Sorry I am thinking Snake Oil. Herman -
Jim, Ditto on Ray comment. Nice looking unit. Looks the same and really different at the same time. An ole Winnie scout was never that big and shiny. Congratulations. Herman

FMCA/Michelin National Account Tire Purchase
hermanmullins replied to geosharonw's topic in Membership/Benefits
Some debit cards may be used as a credit card and have some sort of points, credits and discounts. But like a debit card it is immediately taken from your account. Of course many credit cards do the same thing and you don't have to pay it till after the S/S check is in the bank. Herman -
Houston TX-- Weather Conditions In January
hermanmullins replied to kaypsmith's question in Destinations/Attractions
I have always said to folks that ask about weather in Texas. Wear cotton and a big coat. Weather in Houston can be cold and I would be prepared for both mild and cold. However January cold in South Texas is not the same as January cold in North Dakota. So come to Houston and enjoy our great Texas Hospitality. Herman -
04, If it hasn't been said before, Welcome to the Forum. I will bet that folks see you coming with your lights flashing. Do your lights stay on or flash when you turn on the head lights? Do the running lights flash when you are stopped? With the relay clicking you may have either a bad relay or a bad ground. Most all the relays in your unit are the same so you could buy one and try it. If it stops flashing then good, but if it does not stop you still have a spare in your tool box. I would try the relay first and then if the flashing continues go look for a loose ground. Herman

Have you contacted your agent and asked if you have glass coverage. In most coverage it is listed under your comprehensive coverage. As far as companies go we had Kemper, who by the way covered our windshield (2,400.00) under my comprehensive and the glass was replaced while in Perry by RV Glass Solutions, great folks to work with. Thanks Sally. Our agent searched for other coverage and we are now with Safeco. We did save money in the switch. Again check with your agent on your coverage. Herman

My opinion and my opinion only, All oils are good lubricants. I believe it is personal preference rather then which is better then the other. I have always just tried to use the same oil each time I have it changed. That way if there ever is a problem I only have one source to go to. Changing oil and filter at the correct intervals is the best thing you can do for your engine.

sangelucci, Our shower has an access panel in the shower build up section. From there I can see the drain "P" trap. I can remove a panel in my kitchen cabinet where I can access the shower plumbing. I either has a leak, Good Luck. Herman

RRman, As Bill said, follow your coaches directions. We have a Monaco Dynasty and I do the following: When I am ready to level, turn off the engine, then I dump my air. When the air is dumped, on my HWH system I press the level button twice. The unit will automatically level the coach. I then put out the slides and repeat the level sequence. When we get ready to travel, I pull in my slides, start the engine to build up the air and turn off the HWH unit. By the time my air has built up the green travel light will come on. And then as Jackie Gleason said "AND AWAY WE GO".

Police To Enforce Fuel Taxation In Arizona
hermanmullins replied to executive45's topic in Laws and Legislative Action
Bill, Ryan and Jim, Thank you for clearing up this matter. This goes to show, when in doubt go to the main source for answers. Now I have to advise several folks I know to take their magnetic signs off their tow vehicles when fueling up in AZ. Herman -
Anyone Using "Car In Tow" Sign On Toad?
hermanmullins replied to Bluebirds's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
I also never felt the need for a sign. When you see a 1/2 ton truck with a golf cart in the bed of the truck and it is so close the M/H that it look like it is attached, It Is. Herman -

Dave, The things I would be sure and check would be the tires for both age and cracking and any thing Rubber. Hoses and belts seem to age much faster when not used then when used. Tires between 5 and 7 years would be suspect. Do a complete PM and have the transmission serviced. I would budget about double what you think. Then you will come in ok. Good luck, Herman

Salton, Did you replace the complete fixture or just the fluorescent bulbs? If just the bulbs then it may be the fixture itself. I don't know a lot about the LED replacement bulbs, however I know that you can get LED bulbs that directly replace the Incandescent bulbs, and there are LED light fixtures. May be your unit is not completely compatible with the LED tubes. Let us know what you find out. Herman

Caster Adjustment And Specs: 1998 Beaver 8 Bag Suspension
hermanmullins replied to Glenns72pc's topic in Chassis
ObedB, You are correct about Motor Homes. They are a mixture of available parts from many areas. A steering unit is one of the most serious parts in a coach. I would like to know how many of these units have failed. It may be a very small number. However I would hate to guess the cost of a Motor Home if they didn't go with best and most cost effective parts available. Besides if we didn't have our coaches to work on just think what the DW would have us doing. I myself would rather work on my coach then move furniture, hang pictures and many other thing she can think of. "Sorry Dear I would love to help but I have to get the Coach Fixed" Whew, that was close. Herman -
Rich, Before you replace your Inverter I would have it benched tested. If you have a https://www.nirvc.com/ location near you they can test your Inverter and repair most units. It would be a lot less costly. Herman

hermanmullins replied to Marlajordon's topic in Buying an RV
Marla, Welcome to the Forum. The HR you speak of was built during the turmoil with the Bankruptcy and buy out of Monaco. It may be a wonderful coach however proceed with caution and you should be OK. Tiffin is a good Company and has a good reputation. Herman
