winsormonaco, Welcome to the Forum. I have a question, not to be a smartalec, but have you ever seen a comfortable hide a bed? The oouch in your coach is made for mounting in a floor. It has a metal frame that is secured to the floor with through bolts. If you raise the couch you should be able to see the mounting bolts. If you can find a replacement couch with a metal frame then it might work. (besides I raised the sons that all grew to over 6 feet tall and they could sleep on any thing, at anytime and any where.) Surge Brakes In Mountains?
hermanmullins replied to BretWayne's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Wayne, I under stand, what I was referring to is how the surge brake works on boat trailers. It is not hooked into the brake light, it is hooked up to the back up lights. Herman -
Surge Brakes In Mountains?
hermanmullins replied to BretWayne's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Boat trailer have had surge brake lock outs for year. How ever they are attached to the back up lights. So when you want to back up the trailer, the power from the B/U light activates a solenoid that shuts off the flow of brake fluid to the wheels. I had problems with the electrical on my Jake Brake due to a bad connection. What would be nice, would be that M & G Engineering or Airforce 1 would engineer a air brake cylinder for trailers and tow dollies. Herman -
Roadtrek Storage Compartment Repair/Replacement
hermanmullins replied to Mxgrls's topic in Type B Motorhomes
MXI'm not too sure you want to return to Texas just yet, still close to 100 each day. But if you can wait til you return and you are close to Denton, TX there is a great shop there. North Texas RV Repair on Hwy 380 West of I-35. They do great work and Ken and Linda are super nice folks. Herman- 5 replies

Lyle, Then you know well how to patch it to keep it running til winter when you can repair it for good. There is an old saying that "Poor quality last much longer the a cheap price". The same will apply to workman ship. You may find that perfect repair shop some where in the back woods in an Amish Community or in the middle of down town Davenport. But you will find it. Good luck, Herman

Roadtrek Storage Compartment Repair/Replacement
hermanmullins replied to Mxgrls's topic in Type B Motorhomes
Mx, Welcome to the Forum. Sorry for your accident. Tom gives some good advice. If you would like to have your unit repaired, list your location here and you will get some good repair shops in your area. What did the insurance company estimate the repair cost to be? They may consider it a total and you would have to replace it. Hope you get it repaired or replaced soon and can get back on the road. Herman- 5 replies

jc, Those 4 bolts are secured to a plate under the coach floor and in most cases welded to the chassis. Herman -
Insurance for Personal Mobility Carts
hermanmullins replied to Mikebo's topic in FMCA Perry, Georgia, 2014
If you will check with your homeowner's Insurance company, you will find that you are covered by your HOI for liability as long as you are not on a public street. Good in RV parks, golf courses, on your own property. Ask your agent for a letter from the company explaining this and carry it with you. Herman -
Towing 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
hermanmullins replied to clancaster's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Your Avalanche does not need to have the key on. You do not have a lock pin in your vehicle. Chevrolet removed them some time back. neither my 2003 Yukon 4x4 nor my 2008 Silverado have pins. With the key on you are racking up the mileage on the speedometer. Herman -
The additional 30 feet of 30 amp power cable should get you to most every power post in a CG. I would still be concerned about putting a friends home in jeopardy of a fire by using a undersized outlet. Herman

One more thing. I found a small filter to go on my valves. Can't recall what it is called but it was round about 1" long with 1/4 npt threads on one end. It looked like small brass beads compressed together. Herman

If you are sure that your receptacle is in fact 30 amp with both the correct wire gauge and breaker, why not just install a 30 amp RV receptacle? If you must use an extension be sure to monitor for over heating. If it is too hot to touch then you have a potential problem. Be safe. Herman

Mike, If you can locate the valve, check the exhaust port. The same type valve is used for dumping the air. I found one of mine clogged by Dirt Dobbers. Hope this helps, Herman

CAT C13 - Lots Of Grey Smoke, No Power Need Suggestions
hermanmullins replied to gbconsta's topic in Engines
Does your unit have a Jake Brake? If so it may be stuck. this happened to my Cummins. White smoke and no power. It was connected to an electrical problem (my fault). Corrected elec. problem no more smoke and full power for the last two years. Herman -
You indicated that when you hit a bump you got a bad shimmy. Since it started all of a sudden it sounds to me like you may have a tie rod end or drag link problem. The tire problems that started before the shimmy indicates to me that your front end may have issues. Take the coach to a truck shop and have them inspect the front end for bent or loose links. Three Channel Wireless Temperature Readings
hermanmullins replied to dickandlois's topic in Electronics
Rich, Along those same lines there is a item used for swimming pools called a Freeze Guard. It moniters the temp. and will turn on the pump to prevent freezing. I know they make a 220 volt unit but I don't know if they have a 110. The 220 unit could be used by dropping one leg. Your could wire in a light to come on when needed. Herman -
Pat, I have a bottle of Flea and Tick spray in my bay and I spray my water hose, power cord and drain hose each time I hook up. I don't know if it helps other then we don't have any bugs. Herman

Rich, That is the best I have heard or seen, since I saw a guy with a brown straw hat talking to a guy in a loud Orange hat in Gillette. If you don't mind, I am going to copy this and send it to several of my Engineer friends. But I will type real slow so they will under stand. Herman

Brett has made several great points. If they are not met you could be in real trouble should you be in an accident. If you are not in comlpiance, your insurance may not cover the accident and your fault or not you may be subject to all damages. The insurance companies thoughts are if you are not in compliance you should not be on the road. Make sure you have all you need to be safe. Herman
