  1. Helene and Roch, Welcome to the Forum. Sorry that the National schedule and yours wont be meshing this year. You do bring up a Valid point. FMCA stands for Family. In these times when we are trying to maintain and grow membership it would be good to look at scheduling National Events when families can come and bring their children. At present time there is nothing that can be done for this year but it is something that should be considered for future events. Check into Association and Chapter Rallies that you can attend with your childern. Good Luck and may your children have a wonderful year. Herman Mullins
  2. tstarling, Welcome to the Forum. PM=Personal Message. Click on ***** name and when his profile comes up click on send a message.
  3. Bill, maybe Waynes Better Half is so frighten of his driving she can't close her eyes and you are so good your Better Half can sleep like a baby when you are behind the wheel. Or then again maybe not.
  4. No Bill that is not a good idea. However just like everything in life, every one wants to be equal. Once they get to be equal they will segregate them selves to be with other that are like themselves. I have a feeling that just like friends in FMCA go some where they want to park close to one another. Just like Chapter members that go to Area or National Rallies they want to park as a group. I would be willing to bet that if Towables go to a Motor Home Rally they would like to be parked with other towables. Only natural. At the same time who knows if a towable is parked with M/Hs it may spark them want a M/H. Do I want to allow Towables in FMCA? No Do I want to allow Towables to be able join as non-voting members? No Would I want to have Towable attend Rallies but not as Members? To me that would be OK Would I continue to support FMCA if Towables were allowed to join? Yes Every one need to talk with their Chapters National Director and let them know how you feel. If you are not a member of Chapter (you should be), then contact your Area VP. A complete list of the Executive Board is in the January 2012 Addition of Family Motor Coaching along with their email addresses. Communicate your thoughts to them. We all love FMCA are we would not still be members. Regards, Herman Mullins Vice President Lone Star Chapter of FMCA
  5. Charlie, Allen, Vicky, Wil, Otho, Andy, Harry, Jon, Charlie, Ralph, Sonny, Robert, Paul, Bobby, and Connie, are you listening?
  6. What kind of fans do you suggest? Something like a computer cooling fan?
  7. Action, Welcome to the Forum. I had a step cover problem one time. Here is what I found. My step cover also had an air cylinder. What happened was the bolt that held the end of the cylinder broke. You could move the cover by hand both in and out. I removed the top of the cover and the end (that is where the cylinder attaches) of the cover. The cylinder is connected to the air lines by quick disconnects. I removed the cylinder. It was mounted to the pan by a bolt that had broken. I got a much longer bolt and attached it to the cylinder end and secured it with a nut (really tight). Then I reconnected the air lines and stuck the long bolt through the bolt hole in the pan. Then I crawled under the coach and secured the bolt with a nut & lock washer. When you put the bolt on the end of the cylinder and tightened the nut, add several nuts so the bottom of the nuts are even with the bottom of the cylinder. Check the cylinder to make sure it moves correctly and reassemble the end and top. Hope my repair helps your problem.
  8. Taxman, you made a good choice. As Bill said, why change out good rims that are easy to care for, for Aluminum rims are nice, also expensive. They also take a great deal of work to stay looking nice. You said that you thought the steel rims didn't hold the air as wells as Aluminum. Even if you changed out your steel for aluminum you may still have steel rims on your inside duels. Now shine up those easy to care for Stainless Covers, pack up the coach and take those kids out and make memories that will last a lifetime. Happy RVing.
  9. Rich, Welcome to the Forum. I made some inquiries and I believe you need a third number on the end of your part number (06-28598-00?) if it is a '0' then it is a good part number but is hard to find. Such a wiring harness will have both tail, turn and stop lights in the same harness. Do you have Emergency flashers? If you have a connection on the rear of your coach to connect you toad, connect your toad and see if you have brake light on the toad. I don't believe you have a ground problem because if you did, none of your tail lights would work. I am basing this on the fact that most Tail and Stop lights are in the same bulb.To check for a ground remove the bulb and check the rim of the connection to known ground on your coach. If you have continuity then you do not have a ground problem. I know this is a dumb question but are your sure your bulbs are OK? R.M. I have never heard of diodes in a vehicle wiring harness (of course I learn something new every day). I do know and have diodes on my toad (I wired them in myself) to keep the reverse current from flowing back into the toads computer (big problems if that happens), but not in my coach.
  10. wig, Welcome to the Forum. Your Maxx Force 10 may not require the DEF but some Diesel Engine Mfg.s do requite the DEF.
  11. Gentlemen I believe I saw an article in the FMCA Mag. on this topic. Check out the archives. It is new in the last couple of years
  12. The almighty has come to the rescue of the enviroment with Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Greatful I have 2002 400 ISL Cummins. Keep it serviced right and it is good to go.
  13. Ronnie, That is an excellent report. No doubt it will help many people out there. Thank you.
  14. Does anyone out there have AARP for secondary coverage? My 96 year old mother has it and it seem to do well for her. My wife is still working and we have BC/BS through her company. She will be retiring this yaer and will need to get part 'B' and secondary. I have VA to cover my Meds., but I will probably join her with the secondary coverage.
  15. Good thought WillTroy. Be sure you give your assistant a good flash light, so they can look at the latch to see if it is fully engaged. If you can, open up the cover to your latches check to see if they are moving all the way up and down. If not WD-40 to clean them and then a good silicone lubricant.
  16. Brenda, your welcome. Since your mirrors have metal covers you should be able to lightly sand and refinish them. Be sure to apply a clear coat to help keep the new finish looking good.
  17. Thanks Brett. That helps me understand and should help alot of other folks.
  18. Brenda, I am not sure they make snap on covers. And I don't think you want to go to the expense of changing out your mirrors.($$$) Have you considered having them painted? If yours are metal and not plastic you can have them powder coated. That is a really tough coating. However you could check RVsalvage locations to see if they might have chrome mirrors for your coach.
  19. Brett, does the 3116 have a Jake Brake or Pac Brake. If I understand, the Jake Brake is in the engine and controls the valve train while the Pac Brake is an exhaust brake that controls the back pressure in the exhaust. When I use my Jake brake my transmission drops to 2 and returns to 6 when I release it. I'm sorry that I don't know enough about the systems. Since the subject is on Braking, could you give a brief lesson on the types of Exhaust Braking? Regards
  20. christod, Welcome to the Forum. Does your engine hav CAT or CUMMINS? They are two different animals and two different Mfg.ers. BrEtt will be posting you all you need to know about a Cat. engine, while I know a little about my 400 ISL Cummins.
  21. It is always nice to quote the Mfg. However if you have a top feul dragster DOT 5 would work well.
  22. william, Welcome to the Forum. My jeep Wrangler had the Square Tail Lights and there would not be room for another buld without modifications. But I can understand your concerns. With the setup I have, I have never had a bit of problem. I have wired a number of coaches for my friends and none of them had had a problems either.
  23. rickblues1, Welcome to the Forum. If you have 4 wheel drive and can put you transfer case in neutral you should be ready to go. If you have 2 wheel drive you will need a drive shaft disconnect or a lube pump. My preferance would be the drive shaft disconnect. If you are in or near Dallas, TX give David a call at Drive Shaft King at 214-941-7122. Also you will need a aux. braking system. Check out www.m-gengineering.com 903-675-2701 they have an awesome unit.
  24. Mike, Welcome to the Forum. I'm sending this out to any and everyone that wants to work under their own coach. Go out and buy the best Jack Stands you can buy. Make sure they are capable of supporting the weight of your coach. And NEVER, NEVER get under your coach without them in place. FMCA is losing enough members due to the economy. We don't want to lose them to accidents. Be Safe.
  25. When the plastic latches brake it is quite a chore to get the door open. Changing to the mteal latches is a good idea. Check the wear pattern on your latches. Your strikers may be too low and only the tip of the latch is catching. Vibrations going down the road can cause them to open. Ajust the strikers and see if that helps.
