  1. Koliver, I use my GPS for correct MPH. I also use it for MPG. My MH odometer is off also. However my silverado is right on.
  2. racesport, Welcome to the Forum. We have a 2002 400ISL, with a Trip Tec. I have been told by Trip Tec that I must have Cummins reprogram the ECM to correct my problem. When I check my Engine Data, which tell current Trans/Engine Temps, total miles and lifetime MPG. My lifetime MPG reads between 58.7 and 96.8 MPG. I would love for that to be true but ***********. Also at the same time I have 'Maint." light on on the dash. There doesn't appear to be any problems with the engine and has never ran better. I have just let it be for now and will check it out at a Cummins Service Center when I can go there on a trip. To answer your question about the fuel mileage shown, it's fairly close. but as with all readings like this I still like 'Miles driven divided by Gallons used= MPG.
  3. tzccbxq, Welcome to the Forum. Be sure and check the width of the wheel well covers in the bed. I know that some people had to make ramps over them to clear. I don't beleive that your F150 would have a problem. Also check the length. make sure the cart will go in far enough so the rear wheels are not resting on the tail gate. If you have the clearance you should have no problem.
  4. Bill, he said that 'there are times when using the RV restroom is not pleasant'. That is why I suggested an air freshener. Heck there are times my restroom is not pleasant but it's my fault. Fan-fan-fan. Need more be said?
  5. Tireman, I'm sure you have thought of this but be sure and check width. I know that the narrower ones have limits to how wide a track toad it will take. Ask if the widest dolly will also take what the narrow one does. This will give you chances to tow different size vehicles. Sounds like you have it pretty much under control. Good luck.
  6. Cruisingseniors, Welcome to the Forum. Most all Fair Grounds have Public Restrooms, some better then others, but not many with showers. It is best to come with a full water tank and empty holding & gray water tanks. If you GI Shower and use the public restrooms you should be OK. They will have water trucks and holding tanks trucks but they can be expensive. As far as your RV restroom sometime not being very pleasant might I suggest that a very good aerosol air freshener is good to keep in your restroom. Also have your fuel tank topped off too. Have a good time in Indianapolis.
  7. Brett is correct on the tires. Radial tires can cause a vehicle to pull one way or the other. If your coach is pulling that hard you might inspect both front tire for scuffing. Good Luck
  8. Deen, there is a problem with the reflective window tints on dual pane windows. It will heat up the air between the panes and build up pressure that can cause the seals to leak. Tints= good idea. Reflective tints= not so good an idea.
  9. gdroke, If you don't have your toad wired you will not have running lights and turn signals. However you are correct all braking systems apply pressure to the brake pedal and yes your brake lights will activate. I have learned that the candles I put on the back of my toad always seem to go out the minute I move.
  10. Starting to sound like one of our Rally Happy Hours where the first liar doesn't have a chance.
  11. SW, welcome to the Forum. Old addage "If it moves and shouln't, use Duct Tape, if it dosen't move and should, use WD40. Enough said.
  12. Bill, does this mean that your goood friends from the Forum will get a great discount????? Good Luck on your new adventure.
  13. How many miles do you have on your coach? Have you had your transmission serviced? Is it time for service?
  14. Sorry rambling boy. Many towns in the sun belt as you call it love RVs and Boats but do not allow over night parking with out notification of the city office and that is for loading and unloading. Loosen up that rusty Canadian pocket book and come on down with the good folks at one of the thousands of Snowbird Parks.
  15. Mike, Welcome to the Forum. Take your toilets model number to a RV supply house and order a new seal. Sorry to be so blunt, but there isn't a way to soften to harden rubber. After you change or have the seal changed there are some different item you can pour in the toilet the help lube a soft seal. Good luck, some one else may have a different solution.
  16. dowdyl, Ask for thr CARFAX. Well maybe not, but a look at the maintenance record would be a must. Take the Engine Serial number to Cummins, Cat. or who ever made it and check if it has had any major work preformed. Is there any service bulletins done or not done. Low mileage doesn't always mean low usage. It may have been used by snowbirds. Down for the winter and back in the spring=lived in for many months. The wear and tear can be on the inside and not on the outside. See if you can talk to the previous owners. Take a look at the DOT dates on the tires. The coach is 5 plus years old and it is getting close to the max. life on the tires. Do all the tires match? Like the old song says,"Hay look me over". Good luck, hope you find a good one.

  18. Rwbed1, Welcome to the Forum. Yes you are correct. I just got my Class 'B' Texas operator License. Driving any vehicle exceeding 26,000 lbs requires a class 'B' license. Class 'A' if towing in excess of 10,000 lbs. It is not a CDL. However you will take a written test covering the fundamentals of the CDL.Read chapter 15 of the Hand Book. You will also be required to take a driving test. You will be tested on normal road driving, lane changing, merging & exiting a highway, backing 65' and parallel parking. I know how many time do you parallel park a motor home. Highway speed limits 70MPH, Tow Brake requirement 4,200 lbs and over. Tow strap color, 1' by1' square White flag on strap (15'). When the question comes up about the color of the tow strap it shows a P/U pulling a car with a yellow strap, but the color is not yellow. It is a trick question. When driving and you stop behind another vehicle, maintain a distance far enough back so you can see the tires of the vehicle in front of you. As you can see I learned a lot from the Test. I failed the Written Test with a 35 the first time. It is on a touch screen on the computer and when you miss enough where you wont pass it stops. I was 7 right 6 wrong. The next day i passed with a 90. I also failed the driving test on the last turn. I followed a car into the intersection to make a left turn, They stopped to allow a car a block away to pass and when I completed the turn it had changed to Red. Took it 3 day later and made 100%. I hope my errors will help anyone taking the Texas test. Side note. I had a friend that had a CDL Passenger Lic. that was going to ride up with me to take the test. He had surgery and I called the office and asked what I could do. There was a pause and then "we don't ask how you got here".
  19. Check with Northern Tool, Tractor Supply and or Harbor Freight. They all have sections with trailer parts. Spindles are fairly universal in size. Some have a differnt inner and outer size bearing and some are the same. I feel that it would be fairly easy to add electric brakes to the trailer but the coach may be a different thing. I think you can also get surge brakes at these places. Surge would require replacing the hitch for a surge hitch and adding Drums and backing plates with brake shoes. Taking everything into account, material and time (Labor) it might be better buying a dolly that already has surge brakes on it. Surge brakes will allow you to pull a car with something other then the coach if needed.
  20. Buying new= Fast depreciation, 20 to 30% first year. Many problems, they may be covered by warrenty but you still have the problems and most are on the road. bad. Every thing is new. Good Buying preowned= The fast dep. has already take place. Warrenty problems have already been taken care of. In this economy there are some real bargins out there. Low milage is good, unless coach was used by snow birds. Low milage but realy lived in. These are just my thoughts. Some people think buying new means they are not buying someone elses problems. I think buying preowned means someone else took care of the problems. Every body has to go with what they feel is right for them. So follow you own gut and go for it.
  21. I beleive it is pronounced BaaTon. Bring that young lady to Texas she will love it, just don't start out west ease her in by way of East Texas and the gulf. Have a great time showing those two kido this wonderful country no matter where you take them. (after being station in Maryland, NJ and Rhode Island I look forward to the day I can take the wife to see New England).
  22. As Brett said, seal all open access points under your coach. If you have water or Electric hooked up to your coach you may want to put a bag of moth balls right where they enter the coach. You might want to put a few on top of each tire. Traps all around. At one time we had squirrels in our attic. To find where they were getting into the house I stationed family at all four corners of the house then I took my sons BOOOOOM box set it in th attic as loud as it would go. They left in a hurry and we saw where they were getting in and were able to seal the openings. Even squirrels could not stand my sons music.
  23. Another thought. If they will loan you money for 20 years and a depreciating asset, then they feel you will live long enough to pay for it. So I say "GO FOR IT".
