New To Tow Dollies, Don't Understand?
hermanmullins replied to Ultratravler's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Ultartravler. Welcome to the Forum. Some time I agree with Bill, (Not often but sometimes) This time I agree whith Bill. With a 2007 Chevrolet 4X4 pickup you have the idea vehicle. You have 4 wheel drive, which means all you have to do is hook you truck to your M/H and put your truck in 4wheel drive neutral. To do this you set your parking brake, turn on the key but do not start your engine. Put your gear shift lever into neutral, put you foot and hold down the brake pedal. At the same time hold down the 2Hi and I beleive its the 4 Hi (Bottom Button). When your truck goes into 4 wheel neutral a Red light will come on. Put you shifter in Park, turn off the key and remove it and release the Parking Brake. As far as your truck is concerned you are ready to go. 5 minutes tops. Your truck doesn't have a locking pin in the steering wheel so you don't need to leave the key on. You will still have to put your truck into 4 wheel neutral to pull it on a dolly. Tow Bar $600.00. Base plates $400.00 (if you install them yourself) Secure connection to your coach. Tow Dolly $1,500.00 Min. Tow dolly extra weight. When your park you have to have a place to store the Dolly. Tires have to be strapped down on Dolly. My bet is for 4 wheels down, No Dolly. -
Towing a 2011 Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX
hermanmullins replied to gandl's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Ckarlen, Welcome to the Forum. To solve your light problem you need to have you Ford wired with a wiring harness you can purchase at Camping World. I have wired several cars/truck/jeeps with tow lights. It wires in just like a trailers lights, with one exception. There are diodes on each bulb. this allows power to the light from the coach but doesn't allow the power to feed back into the cars system where it can do damage to electronic components. And your lights will function just fine when unhooked from the Coach. If you were close to McKinney, TX I would be more then happy to help you install the harness. -
Are 30' Diesel Pushers Too Short For A Good Ride?
hermanmullins replied to johnwynn's topic in Type A motorhomes
Johnwynn, Welcome to the Forum. We had a 32 foot Monaco Windsor D/P. It road and handled very well. We moved up from a 28 foot gas which handled OK. After the 32 footer we moved up to our present 40 Monaco Dynasty D/P with a tag axle. Each coach was better then the last. I don't think you will have any handling problems with a Beaver. They are very good coaches. -
Tonycoachman Welcome to the Forum. Your best bet on an answer would be the Factory. www.greenrvproducts.com Are you a member of FMCA? If so have you considered joining a Chapter? Great fun and wonderful people.

Larry, that would be GMAC that you can get through FMCA. With their coverage you can put your coach in storage. You must keep it in storage for 30 days or your payments continue. If you have full coverage, Liability, Comp & Collision, they will suspend your Liability and Collision but keep your Comp in effect while in storage. This keep you and your loan company covered in case of fire or other damage not caused by a collision since you will not be on the road.

Batteries for 2008 Jayco Melbourne 29D
hermanmullins replied to MikeMarie's topic in Type C Motorhomes
MikeMarie, Welcome to the Forum. If I understand, you are speaking about your House Battery. If it is time to replace the house battery and you do infact have room 2 six volts in series will give you longer usage. Be sure and purchase Golf Cart Batteries. They a deep cycle and will last longer. It appears you are new to RVing. Have you joined FMCA? If not it is a wounderful orginazation with lots of great people. You might want to check in to joining a Chapter in your area. You can find them on the FMCA Home Page Areas and Chapters. -

If I know people, I know that they have been dumping all kinds of unmentionable stuff in the sewer system for years. The treatment plant have know this for years also. They have been treating the waste for all sort of stuff including chemicals. I think, and this is only my thoughts, they finally found a way to charge companies more for sewerage treatment. Are they going to begin charging RV parks more? God I hope a sanitation engineer reads this.

Problems With Freightliner Evolution XC Chassis When Fueling
hermanmullins replied to jcnansen's topic in Chassis
Richard, that seems like an older remedy. With todays computers, if your don't get the gas cap on and click it at least 3 times it will cause your check engine light to come on. But I remember a lot of thing we used to do before ECMs. -
Leaking Windshields on Winnebago Vectra
hermanmullins replied to cricard04's topic in Type A motorhomes
I won't try to cover all you have said. But for the windshield. It seems that you can not get the factory to correct the problem so try this. Go to a RV location that has accessories and look for the stick on guttering. Put it on with the botton edge right at the windshield. Be sure to go all the way across to cover the whole windshield. After you install the guttering seal the top edge with silicone. This will prevent water from coming down the coach and under the windshield molding. Good Luck.- 14 replies

Problems With Freightliner Evolution XC Chassis When Fueling
hermanmullins replied to jcnansen's topic in Chassis
circard04, Welcome to the Forum. You didn't say how many miles you had on your coach before/when you took your coach to Freightliner. But let me say this. The majority of Fabrication Shops do not use stick electrode or flux cored wire to weld a thin guage material like a fuel tank. The will use MIG, Metal Intert Gas. This process doesn't leave slag. It will however leave some flakes around the welded area. This should have been brushed off with a wire brush. This material would be caught by your fuel filter, which in this case it did. I might be a little cautious in taking my coach to them in the future. One of the unfortunate thing about Motor Homes when taking them to a Truck Shop is that there aren't any Flat Rate Books for them. At this point you are at their mercy. And the more honorable will always get recognized and word of mouth will tell the world. Your commit about the shop in NH will also be heard loud and clear. Good Luck and Happy Fueling. -
caresen, Welcome to the Forum. Are you talking about water or diesel? Your Onan should have a trap door on the bottom of the unit to access the oil filter and the fuel filter. Check and see if your leak is coming from the connection on the fuel filter.

Bill I don't know about drcue but on our coach (2002) the film is crazed and cracked. I have been able to remove just a very small spot so far. The paint under where I have removed the film is perfect. I am going to try a hair dryer to see if I can do it faster, and yes I will start on the very bottom to see if it works. Will post here one way or the other.

Gary, Have you considered a trailer? There trailers out there that can carry two motor cycles and a car. That way you can carry our bikes and most any car you like and not have to worry about tow bars, lights on the car and brakes.

Tank Capacities-- 2001 Fleetwood Pace Arrow
hermanmullins replied to jhh4smh's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
jhh4smh, Welcome to the Forum. A call to a Fleetwood dealer. They might be able to answer your question. When you have a question about your M/H always tell the Year, Model, Length, Engine (Gas or Diesel) and as much information as you know. This will help alot of folks out there answer your question. In most cases you holding tank and gray water tank added together will give you your fresh water tank size. Or visa versa Fresh water tank divided by 2 equals the holding and gray tanks size. However that is not always the fact. The minute you state a fact about a M/H that is the one that is different. Good luck. -
bobbyks from Gonzales, La. If ever a name of a town and state spelled good food your is it. Hispanic/Cajoun. Brett is correct. Tim is one of the most helpful people I have had the pleasure to speak with. His first question to me was "is your Sony camera the 520 or 530?" He explained everything where I could understand it. My Camera fed through my Trip Tec controller. My camera and monitor were both good. I called Trip Tec and the first thing they asked had I pushed the View Button? I hadn't and when I did wala I had my syatem working. Some where down the line I must have hit the botton and I didn't know that it would turn the picture off and on. Call or go visit Tim He can get you back on.

xjaywalker, If you are around the Dallas, Texas area go see Drive Shaft King. David will go over board to accomodate you. David just installed a Remco Drive Shaft Disconnect on my Chevrolet 1500 Ext Cab P/U. If you have an aluminum drive shaft they will have to make you a new D/S. If it is steel he will modify your shaft. On my truck he had to make a new drive shaft out of steel and install a cross member to hold a carrier bearing. David also uses a PTO cable instead of the cable that Remco Provides. It is much stronger. As far as oiling or greasing the unit David said that all I needed to do was every once in a while to spray the whole thing with WD-40. WD-40 will clean the unit of grease and grime. No oil required. FYI, David explained that for years GM had a 2 peice drive shaft on their longer vehicles. This was because the very long steel shaft were very hard to balance. GM found that if they went with a large dia. aluminum shaft it was easier to balance and could use a one peice shaft. My truck had aluminum and that was why he installed the two peice with a carrier bearing.

xjaywalker, I went to Bear Alignment school too many years ago. One of the things I learned was if you feel a shimmy in the steering wheel the problem is in the front end. Balance, shocks, alignment, ball joints or king pins, tie rod ends or idler arm. However if you feel the shimmy in your seat it is in the rear end. Most of the time the shimmy in the rear is shocks. But it could also be worn out bushings. If your front tires a cupped it could be balance. How does your coach track down the road. Does it pull in either direction? Does your coach wander from left to right? That could be a sign of toe-in being out. With the toe-in out one wheel will be trying to go streight and the other will being trying to correct it self. As Brett said an OTR Shop that speiclizes in alignment woud be the right choice to make.

Brett, did you say you got rusty water from your bladder or tank?

cmturner, I read where you put teflon tape and then used thread sealant. If I understand sending units they are temp. or pressure switches and use the block for ground. I beleive the sending unit will either have MPT threads or have a 'o' ring seal. You might try to clean the threads so there a metal to metal connection. I had a problem with my oil guage on my Monaco. I changed the guage and the sending unit and my guage still pegged. The guage was made by "Bedee" and when I called them they were quite helpful. The oil pressure sending unit I installed (from Cummins) did not solve my problem. My idiot light on the dash goes out just as soon as I start the engine. I understand that Cummins has two oil sending unit and the new replacement is a superseeded P/N that is only an off/on unit that only tell you if you have pressure or not and has to have the ECM reprogramed. That did not work either. My conclusion is that I have a bad wire some where in the harness. Some day soon I plan to replace the sending unit with a pressure sending unit and run a wire from the guage to the sending unit.

Tinting Dual Pane Windows Yourself
hermanmullins replied to byronlandry's topic in Type A motorhomes
Koliver, I started this once and it got lost. To the best of my knowledge dual pane windows are vacuumed and filled with Nitrogen. Nitrogen is an inert gas. Compressed Nitrogen comes just after Oxygen in the process. Oxygen, Nitrogen then Argon. (talk about cold tempatures) Ambient air when heated will expand and contract with cold. If you check with all of the Tint Mfgr.s I bevel you will see that they state to not use the reflective tints on dual pane windows. And you are correct that you would not want to put any tint on the outside of your windows. As I said before that I have non reflective Lemo Tint on several high up dual pane windows with no problems. Most dual pane windows have problems because the seal has been jarred and broken. After that the problems multiply. -
Brett is correct. Some coaches do have appliances with electric ignites. But you again might not have the propane turned on. You may have hot water if your hot water heater also has a electric element and the refrigerator is on the AC mode. Linda check in your compartment and check your propane tank to see if it might have been turned off when it was last put in storage.
