  1. I don't know of any 40' MH's towing a car that are 55 feet or under. MH 40' + towbar 2'+ + car 17' is about 59-60 feet.
  2. Let me throw this into the fire. In Texas any vehicle over 26,000 pounds is a commercial vehicle. Although a CDL is not required to drive a motorhome. State law. Read the CDL-2 form.
  3. I just fired up the MacBook Pro, and I get the exact same results. "Sorry, no new content found."
  4. Brett, I get the message regardless of how many posts have been made. Clicking on past 24 hours or any other time frame results in the same message. Ross, I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one - but mine is a consistent message. I can wait two days and there could be 20 posts but I still get the message that there is no new content. Herman, I said I held my mouth correctly. Sheesh!
  5. I am computer literate. Well, at least I think I am having retired as an Information Security Specialist. To no avail I am still getting the "Sorry, no new content found," whenever I click on "view new content." I have tried holding my mouth different ways, standing on my head, laying down, and cleaning all caches and information pertaining to FMCA on this computer, starting new, only to get the same message. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and especially if they work.
  6. Cummins has gone to 15,000 miles or 1 year, which ever comes first, maintenance. Maybe that's just on my ISB.
  7. Presntly at the CG we are in an acquaintance has a D-Llink hooked up to his MiFi. He said hookup was easy using WPS. Video looked good.
  8. As long as you have a router of some sort, look into D-Link. I have the DCS-5009L and it works from where ever I am located. Runs off AC. Remote control it for viewing, left, right, up and down with side to side about 180 degrees and up and down more than sufficient to see the floor/ceiling (Just incase the cat's up there.) I have not tried it in the MH - yet - but I'm going to see if I can link it to my MiFi.
  9. No matter what I do I get this message: "Sorry, no new content found." Cleared caches, cookies and all other related items. Search for keyword FMCA on computer and deleted everything I found. Logged back in and same message.
  10. I live in Texas City, TX about 40 miles South of Houston. There have been a few winters where the temperatures dropped below 32˚ for a few days. When that was predicted my winterizing consisted of draining everything, blowing out the lines with my air compressor, and putting "pink" stuff in the drains. So easy to de-winterize when the time comes, and refil the tanks. I've only done that a few times in the past several years. If you are not going to be around to watch the weather, then precautions should be taken, as we do get some freezing cold snaps. Most only last about 4-6 hours, but there are times when it an stay below freezing for more than a day. Those are the times that are of concern.
  11. I'm not pointing the finger at any one indivdual when I say this, but attitude begets attitude. I have not had a problem on any forum I have been on. Sometimes though it is best to hold the fingers off the keyboard instead of answering a post or thread....oops, like this one. I have had reports on campgrounds where office personnel or hosts had a bad attitude, yet when I was there before or after there was never an attitude problem. Just saying that sometimes it is very difficult to see the facial expressions behind a written word, and they can be taken in the wrong way.
  12. #23 is not a problem if you are on I-40. #23 is on old route 66. We have gone both ways, I-10 and i-40 in a 40' MH with a 340 Cumminss pulling a 3000+ pound TOAD with no problems. The route you have indicated, both, are the fastes way to get from SB, CA to MA. We go to Central MA every other year and we have taken the route I-90 from MA to Niagara and just expect around $50 in tolls either direction. Unless you have a reson for going through Stafford, CT, pick up-I-84 in Sturbridge. Nice road, and will take you all the way back to Scranton, PA. You indicated picking up I-10 (Hwy-10) but did not say where you intended to pick up I-10. Just remember that if it is June, July, August or September, it is going to be hot, hot, hot. We get out of Texas for the summer so I guess we are SummerBirds.
  13. Rich, I whole heartedly agree with you. I have dealt with technology since around 1960 and the ever changing aspects of it. When I'm driving the Lincoln MKX I use the technology but I'm ever vigilant regarding the automatic stuff, like always ready to depress the brake knowing that the adaptive cruise could fail, or the precharge of the brakes when the collision avoidance goes of, or doesn't go off. The big test is when I get into another vehcile that doesn't have those capabilities, like the MH. Then I'm entirely on my own and remembering that there are not automatic switches is a constant vigil. So far, so good.
  14. I have everything on my 2013 Lincoln except the lane radar. Adaptive cruise control, adaptive lights, crash avoidance, automatic windshield wipers. Those self drive cars are only a year or two away. There is a company now called "Cruise" that is well on the way. http://www.getcruise.com/
  15. Ray, Thanks for the video. Close call. On my recent trip had a flat bed pass me on the left and I exclamied "Explitive deleted" because he came about 3 inches or so of sideswiping me. Unfortuantely the GoPro doesn't pick up to the side.
  16. Ah, but they are like a kid, the bathtub is a car wash! Last trip (this one) we left home and drove to SA, TX and I still have not washed it. didn't need to. Last 3 days of rain took care of it.
  17. I have not had any other problems with the Kar Gard II. Apparently there was a manufacture flaw in the 1st one that caused it to tear. The Kar Gard will not keep the vehcile from getting dirty. Dust is to fine a particle not to go through the screening. My real reason for purcasing was not to keep the car clean but to protect against things that can be kicked up like rocks and debris. It does a good job o that. Besides, dust swirls around and will settle on the car and I don't think there is anything that will keep the car clean..

  19. Everready to the rescue! I'd wager that inside the electric clock is a little built in ac to dc converter. Finding the right voltage and making a batter box would be fun, but a battery operated clock is about $6-12. Or, go hog wild and get one that will wake to music, news, and even put you to sleep with noise, waves, etc. It's hare to get rid of the favorit clocks though.
  20. Meeting RVIA standards is as the unit was built and delivered, it doen't mean that a coach is still in that category. It is not an annual certification. However, some states require an inspection by the State Inspection agency, and only if it has been on the road during that year. In Texas for example, all trailers exceeding 4,500 Pounds Actual Gross Weight or Registered Weight have inspection requirements. So depending on your local, 2, 5, 10 years, all depends. In this state all registered vehicles require an annual inspection sticker. That being said, there is no inspection requirement for the interrior aparatuses. They could be original equipment, or new eupment installed yesterday. Question would be, was it installed correctly. So back to HOA. It comes down to appearance, and conformity to whatever the HOA mandates. I don't believe there is a way to tell if a unit is safe. p.s., Get the unit inspected, drive it off the lot, and things can still go wrong.
  21. Thanks Roger. Some good infomation as usual. For those that might get stuck, remember you have a TOAD. As stated, a little tug from the TOAD can help you walk out of a stuck situation. I remember one day a tractor trailer was stuck with on wheel in a ditch. He wasn't going anywhere as the tire was spinning. I had a small one-quarter ton truck at the time and a chain. Hooked up and he came right out of there. We live in a "port" town and there are fishing boat ramps all over the place. One day a boater was trying to get his boat out of the water but kept spinning his tires. Weight didn't help. A friend with him had a vehcile. I suggested hooking up his 1/4" braided line to the vehcile trying to pull the boat out. They did, and I directed them in tightening up and then both applying a little throttle. Vechicle and boat came right up out of the water with the little rope. It doesn't take much, and the best part - no damage - as Roger pointed out. I always carry a rope. Happy trails.

  24. A PDI is no going to find items that break 5 or 6 months down the road. I have a 2008 Winnebago Destination 39W. My wife has not so affectionately named it "Citrus," to be PC. We have had more problems than little liver pills. Here is one example: (I'm going to condense this) Raised jacks. Alarm will not shut off. Stopped at Winnebago Service Center in IA. Stayed 10 days while they tried to figure it out. Last day there they said it was fixed but instead they created another problem that when the jacks were extended the "out of stroke" system appeard and the jacks stopped extending. Manual extension was able to continue. Rasing jacks alarm still on. Kwikee manual states there is a high pressure port on the manifold and it should be 1500 psi. Three technicians and a service advisor standing there scratching (whatever) and i asked, "Did you check the pressure port to see if it has 1500 psi?" The service advisor looked at the lead technician and the lead technician replied, "We don't have a gauge." They were unable to correct the sitation and after 10 days we departed for home. Dealer at home worked, at my storage unit, tryiing to identify the problem. After so many time of me telling them that it was most likely a "reed switch,' they were able to stop the alarm from not shutting off. When I asked them what they did, they stated they replaced the reed switchs (all four of them). Really! Come on now. This is the service center and they don't have a gauge that would cost less the $100 to make! They could not determine that pin 6 on the controller was not shorted to ground when the jacks were retracted? (Think reed switch open) It has been over two years now and the jacks have continuously been giving other problems and still have not been fixed. At present it is back in the shop and 3 new jacks are being ordered. Wonder why Winnebago switched to Kwikee hydraulic jacks and and electric slides instead of sticking with a HWH. Oh, they are back to using HWH I was told. More examples of poor craftsmanship, part defects, and overall poor service upon request. p.s., bad paint job in all storage compartments.
