I have not had any other problems with the Kar Gard II. Apparently there was a manufacture flaw in the 1st one that caused it to tear. The Kar Gard will not keep the vehcile from getting dirty. Dust is to fine a particle not to go through the screening. My real reason for purcasing was not to keep the car clean but to protect against things that can be kicked up like rocks and debris. It does a good job o that. Besides, dust swirls around and will settle on the car and I don't think there is anything that will keep the car clean..

Electric Clock and Modified Sine Wave Inverter
wayne77590 replied to jlandon13399's topic in Electronics
Everready to the rescue! I'd wager that inside the electric clock is a little built in ac to dc converter. Finding the right voltage and making a batter box would be fun, but a battery operated clock is about $6-12. Or, go hog wild and get one that will wake to music, news, and even put you to sleep with noise, waves, etc. It's hare to get rid of the favorit clocks though. -
Motor Coach Age Restrictions in Florida
wayne77590 replied to captenaj's topic in Laws and Legislative Action
Meeting RVIA standards is as the unit was built and delivered, it doen't mean that a coach is still in that category. It is not an annual certification. However, some states require an inspection by the State Inspection agency, and only if it has been on the road during that year. In Texas for example, all trailers exceeding 4,500 Pounds Actual Gross Weight or Registered Weight have inspection requirements. So depending on your local, 2, 5, 10 years, all depends. In this state all registered vehicles require an annual inspection sticker. That being said, there is no inspection requirement for the interrior aparatuses. They could be original equipment, or new eupment installed yesterday. Question would be, was it installed correctly. So back to HOA. It comes down to appearance, and conformity to whatever the HOA mandates. I don't believe there is a way to tell if a unit is safe. p.s., Get the unit inspected, drive it off the lot, and things can still go wrong. -
Thanks Roger. Some good infomation as usual. For those that might get stuck, remember you have a TOAD. As stated, a little tug from the TOAD can help you walk out of a stuck situation. I remember one day a tractor trailer was stuck with on wheel in a ditch. He wasn't going anywhere as the tire was spinning. I had a small one-quarter ton truck at the time and a chain. Hooked up and he came right out of there. We live in a "port" town and there are fishing boat ramps all over the place. One day a boater was trying to get his boat out of the water but kept spinning his tires. Weight didn't help. A friend with him had a vehcile. I suggested hooking up his 1/4" braided line to the vehcile trying to pull the boat out. They did, and I directed them in tightening up and then both applying a little throttle. Vechicle and boat came right up out of the water with the little rope. It doesn't take much, and the best part - no damage - as Roger pointed out. I always carry a rope. Happy trails.

Younger: Wanted a DP, got a DP. Hello
wayne77590 replied to musselmanphotos's topic in All About You
Let me know where your next long trip stop is gong to be and I'll park next to you. -
A PDI is no going to find items that break 5 or 6 months down the road. I have a 2008 Winnebago Destination 39W. My wife has not so affectionately named it "Citrus," to be PC. We have had more problems than little liver pills. Here is one example: (I'm going to condense this) Raised jacks. Alarm will not shut off. Stopped at Winnebago Service Center in IA. Stayed 10 days while they tried to figure it out. Last day there they said it was fixed but instead they created another problem that when the jacks were extended the "out of stroke" system appeard and the jacks stopped extending. Manual extension was able to continue. Rasing jacks alarm still on. Kwikee manual states there is a high pressure port on the manifold and it should be 1500 psi. Three technicians and a service advisor standing there scratching (whatever) and i asked, "Did you check the pressure port to see if it has 1500 psi?" The service advisor looked at the lead technician and the lead technician replied, "We don't have a gauge." They were unable to correct the sitation and after 10 days we departed for home. Dealer at home worked, at my storage unit, tryiing to identify the problem. After so many time of me telling them that it was most likely a "reed switch,' they were able to stop the alarm from not shutting off. When I asked them what they did, they stated they replaced the reed switchs (all four of them). Really! Come on now. This is the service center and they don't have a gauge that would cost less the $100 to make! They could not determine that pin 6 on the controller was not shorted to ground when the jacks were retracted? (Think reed switch open) It has been over two years now and the jacks have continuously been giving other problems and still have not been fixed. At present it is back in the shop and 3 new jacks are being ordered. Wonder why Winnebago switched to Kwikee hydraulic jacks and and electric slides instead of sticking with a HWH. Oh, they are back to using HWH I was told. More examples of poor craftsmanship, part defects, and overall poor service upon request. p.s., bad paint job in all storage compartments.

Silence On The FCOC Decision To Leave FMCA
wayne77590 replied to mcbrian's topic in General Discussion
Why is everyone down on FCOC? It's a club, just like any other club. Some have affilations to other groups and some do not. So read the story here: FCOC Story I'm a member of FMCA. I'm a member of FCOC. I'm a member of many other clubs and organizations. I think I'll stay a member and enjoy the discounts when I need them. It was not a bad decision, in my opinion. -
Are any adoptable?

Paris Island, SC; Mayport, FL; Kings Bay, GA; Pensacola FL; Charleston, SC; Ft Meade, MD; Hanscom AFB, MA; Williamsburg, VA; Cherry Point, NC. We have stayed at all of them and they were all good. I may have missed a few, but read the reviews in the Military Campgrouns revew web site. Pretty much on the spot with the reveiws. Lunga park may still be closed because of UXO. (Unexploded Ordanance) but if it is open it is a good park also.

Only $2.22 here for Diesel. Regular gas is $1.69

Looking for Wireless Router
wayne77590 replied to royclem's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
Roy, I think you are looking for a MIFI, which is a little device provided by ATT, Verison, or other carriers. It connects via their networks to DSL. I use the ATT MiFi when we are on the road. It is a little smaller than a hockey puck and you connect to it wirelessly from your computer(s). The thing to check on is the cell carrier you have when up in Maine. My ATT had some weak spots in NH. For MASS and on down South I never had a Problem with ATT. The device can stand alone and just needs to be charged once in a while, or it can be hooked up to USB port. Mifi will provide you with 4G coverage and when 4G is not availalbe it may drop down to EDGE coverage, which is slow in comaparison but still adequate for email and some browsing. We travel to Central MA, E. Brookfield, to visit my brother and I have connectivity there with ATT. -
Adirondacks, NY to Twin Mtn., NH
wayne77590 replied to oscarpower's question in Destinations/Attractions
Jocelynn, You will have no problem on 30S and 28N to I-87. We did that a few years ago in a 40' MH towing. We were going to Central Mass. so we traveled down to 7 then to 2. The roads in the Adirondacks to and from Tupper were very good. the roads in NH and Mass were narrow in spots, but doable. My father was born in Tupper Lake, NY. When we visited a few years ago we stayed at the city park on little wolf lake. First time they have ever had a MH that big in there. We fit. Black flies should be gone by August. -
I have used the Houston Cummins Southern Plains repair shop in the past and was very satisfied with their service.

I tow the sister car of the Edge, a 2013 Lincoln MKX 4 down. It has all the bells and whistles like adaptive cruise control for one. I went with Blue Ox baseplate and towbar. No problem with adaptive system with Blue Ox product. As stated, new Honda is not towable four down.

Lyle, Have you checked the outside refrigerator compartments for any signs of leakage or yellow stuff? Just a precaution in case the recall box did it's job.

It's the principle of the thing, right? I can truthfully say I get 9.1 MPG and then sometimes it drops to 8.9. Must be my driving.

I'm familiar with one in New Braunfels, which is about 20 miles South of there. Hill Country RV Resort. Passport American, indoor pool, nice hall, 1/2 mile from PFJ, easy access. Half way between San Antonio and Austin..

The Progressive Industries PT-50C has saved me on several occasions. One of the best purchases I ever made. Never leave home without it.

I tow a 2013 Lincoln MKX 4 down. Get 18-20 around town. 24-26 on highway. Prior to that I towed a 2000 Saturn Vue four down. Both are nice cars to tow but the MKX sure does have a lot of bells and whistles.

A web site that may help: AITA OnLine low clearances can be found by clicking on the state, then low clearances. A warning: informaiton is as infomation is received. Things change. Road surfaces change, thereby heights can change. Another low clearance site: Allstays Low Clearance Besides low clearances, individual states may have other restrictions on secondary roads. We try to travel the U.S Highway system and so far we have not encountered any problems. A little bumpy at times, but so are the Interstates.
