  1. If you are going to be traveling in the North East that you get an E-ZPass for the coach and for your toad. Saves money on tolls and much easier not stopping to pay tolls. Bill
  2. This is one of those "diaper" answers,, Depends on how mechanical you are. I used the Banks set up http://bankspower.com/ I have the Economind diesel tuner and the IQ for display. I get boost from the computer (ECM). I had to install a probe to get EGT as Cummins does not monitor EGT. Just had to drill a hole and tape it before the turbo. There is a drawing and instructions in this pub. I was pleased how fast the response time was with their thermocouple. The almost instantaneous change lets you see what small changes to throttle position or load can do to temperatures. https://s3.amazonaws.com/assets.bankspower.com/sdc/manual/96828_cummins_classa_economind_v5.pdf I did install a separate boost line for something else. You can't do it the way they show as there is a inner convoluted sleeve in that part of the intake. I backed up to the elbow and it worked fine. Any questions I will be glad to help. Bill
  3. That isn't bad, I wonder how it can run that cool. I normally see EGT's of 350+ at idle. I normally try to get my EGT below 400 before shutdown. Bill
  4. (no need to pump the brakes to get the air out) Actually what you are doing is bleeding the vacuum of the power boost on the brakes. I would do this regardless otherwise the braking force will lock up your toad brakes the first couple of times you apply your brakes. Bill
  5. Martin, welcome to the forum. Can you get a better picture? (it is pretty blurry) Where is it located? What happens when you play with the buttons with power on? Bill
  6. Gee I have fuel tank envy!!! I only have a 90 gallon tank and seldom wait till it is 1/4 before filling most times just under 1/2. If I wait till 1/4 that still gives me over 550 miles before I need to look for fuel. Bill
  7. They do great work and ask nothing for it. Many kids would not have a nice warm quilt if it wasn't for these great members. Bill
  8. Are you using that "beechwood aged" water again? Herman likes that. Just remember giving him a turn on the beer bong is not waterboarding. Bill
  9. See he has an insider who is going to leak details. There may be a Russian connection and there is probbabley some type of collusion going on. Bill
  10. Brett I have had tires that I still liked but were past their useful life. Bill
  11. Welcome to the forum. Where are you going in Main? In the North East in a lot of areas it is already to late to get a reservation. Are you going to DC? Bill
  12. I use the 7 year as a general guide. By the way welcome to the forum. This also depends on what the tires look like. If you can see something going wrong then it is time right now regardless of the age. I believe the trailer/tow behind groupe uses 5 years. Bill
  13. Welcome to the forum. I don't have any experience with your toad how ever I think I read about something similar. One poster found he had to do the process of setting it up for tow exactly the way the instructions stated and the same for taking it out of "tow mode". He made up a checklist to be shure he didn't miss or do a step out of order. I believe he was reporting the same problems. Try doing a search or read some of the postings under the "towing" heading. Let us know what the fix is Bill
  14. That is the way I do it. Park the "Condo" and go explore. One trip last year we did 14 National parks, 5 presidential libraries and stayed in 35 different campgrounds in 28 states. I put over 8,000 miles on the couch and over 10,000 on the toad. I still can't imagine the hassle of fighting a trailer. Well I have seen it and it won't be me. Yes I can see taking extra bikes ect to a campground and back home but for extended travel not so much. Bill
  15. Thanks Brett, I forgot that one. Bill
  16. I agree, the alignment is set by Ford before it is shipped. Then they build a house on it. Some of the older owner's manual use to say that you should get an alignment after you are loaded like you were going on a trip. Also as Brett said find out atleast what your axle weights (individual corner are better) are it is better than nothing. In reality you set the tire preshure the same on an axle based on the highest weight of that axle. Said anouther way if your left tier requires more air based on the weight, set the right to the same preshure. You should be able to get the alignment done locally. I recommend an all wheel alignment that way you know every thing is tracking properly. Bill
  17. I must be lucky. I tow 4 down now and I can't find any damage chips etc that can be directly attributed to towing. I would never tow a toad with any kind of cover on it. dust and dirt will get under it and destroy the paint. The buffeting of the cover acts like a big sander. I knew up front I didn't want to use a trailer. Watching people struggle with them in different campgrounds only reaffirmed that opinion. Trailers also limit what campgrounds you can use. Bill
  18. You are absolutely right. Some of the areas they have finished already have too much traffic and need to be re widened. Bill
  19. Sometimes the simple things are the hardest to see. Bill
  20. I am much happier they are testing that theory than me. Bill
  21. Does your milage go down when you have a head wind? Bill
  22. Yep, as some say the best coast. I would also look at the Texas hill country. Look at Fredericksburg, San Antonio, Bandera. In the valley look at McAllen, Harlingen, Corpus Christi. That will keep you busey for a while. Bill
  23. Welcome to the forum. We have to assume you have a gas coach because you haven't filled out your profile or put it in your signature. Brett has some good advice. Also don't wait till you NEED gas start looking at 1/2 tank no latter than 1/4. This way if you have to pass on some locations you aren't walking. Make notes on which stations (brands) are laid out to give you easy access. I always try for an outside pump. This way you have more room to maneuver as in watch your "tail swing". Bill
  24. This is almost as common of a thread as the fuel mileage threads. OK, I am in the middle I always leave the black closed and sometimes leave the gray open. Mostly when using the washer. I have a flush system in my black tank so I can use that to flush the hose. The more important part is the clear plastic elbow that lets me see if the tank is flowing clear. Also make sure you close the gray tank before dumping the black. I don't want my black back filling my gray.. Can we do a thread on mileage now? Bill
