I use an adjustable bed in my mh, the manufacturer installed a steel bar, a rod if you can picture it, shaped like an elongated U, ie., the bottom of the u is stretched out about 36 inches. This is of course is inverted and is secured to the bottom end of the bed, this stops the mattress from sliding off the foot end when the bed is raised. The rod sticks upward about half the thickness of the mattress, and when the bed is made up, the covers are over that rod, so it is not seen. Maybe something like this could help your situation.

I owned an 87 model Southwind (P30) chassis several years ago that had similar problem. The only remedy that I found was to go to a racing store, and replace the plug and coil wires with a high performance set of wires, cost over a hundred dollars. Yes a poor charging system could cause a problem, a slight leak in the intake manifold can have an ill effect, also a cracked plug. or a crack in the distributer can also. Hope you find the culprit soon, Kay

I gave a tablet and pen to my DW about 15 years ago, told her to start making a list and checking it twice. Now all I have to do is look straight ahead and ask if the list is complete, if no answer, I go looking for her to make sure the most important part of the list isn't left behind. "LOL" Many happy tales, and trails with the new adventure. Kay

My opinion, if the batteries are properly maintained, water added when needed, terminals kept clean, checked regularly for proper charge in each battery, there should be no need for worry. While checking the battery charge level, with the charger/inverter in an off state, making sure each battery has achieved maximum charge, if they are 6 volt, 6.6 to 6.8, or 12 volt 13.2 to 13.6. This would indicate no bad cells, if one cell in a battery goes bad, this can cause overcharging by the charging system and start the domino effect on the other batteries. At 9 years, it seems that your system has performed well, and I think that you have gotten your monies worth, but another year will surely be an extra for you. Kay

Installing an Ultraguard Rock Guard
kaypsmith replied to kmtexas1@embarqmail.com's topic in General Discussion
I usually crank the mh let it air till the air bags are to their normal ride height, sitting on level pavement or driveway, then install the rockquard per instructions. The motorhome ride height should be the same whether light, medium or heavy, as the limiters are there to keep that height nominal. Welcome to the forum, Kay -
My brother had a 2013 SRX AWD, and now a 2015 same, neither of them can be towed 4 down or 2 down, must be trailered, not sure about 2007, but I bet it is the same. Maybe a trade for a shorter trailer, I would love to have a longer one. Mississippi can be up to 99 feet, http://towingworld.com/towinglawsbystate.cfm?state2=MS. Welcome to the forum

Bearandmoon, Be sure to look at the label inside your GE residential refrigerator Model # GTS16GSHSS for max amps. Most RR's in this size range have draw of 7 to 10.5 amps. The 600 watt that you stated for the fridge, allowing for a 20 percent usage requirement will leave only 480 usable watts divided by 120 volts = only 4 amps to actually run the fridge. A better working unit for the application needs to be the actual amp draw stated on the label times 120 volts plus at least 30 percent. Just a tidbit to help make sure that your fridge and or inverter are not damaged, or their life shortened. Good luck with your new toy. Kay

Matching Ceramic Tiles: 2000 Monaco Diplomat
kaypsmith replied to kenney58's topic in General Discussion
2000 to 2015 is a pretty long way back unless you can find an old tileman who just happens to have it in stock. I have in the past found a contrasting color, and bought enough to work a pattern when replacing those cracked tiles, most of the time will add new look that is surprisingly appealing. Also have actually used a totally different tile, such as marble or granite, or those new catchy looking glass tiles. Just a suggestion that might be worth looking at. -
Upgrading To Flat Screen TV With KVH TracVision L2/S2
kaypsmith replied to nkgunner's topic in Electronics
If using the Genie from home, the main receiver must move to the motorhome, the daughters will not work without the mother attached to the same dish. I just pay the extra five dollars per month and use a stand alone receiver in the mh. I have three TV's attached to the one receiver, use an rf remote for simplicity. We just all have to watch the same channel. -
Is there any chance that both receivers are set for uhf (rf)? This is just a thought, with your description, if both receivers are set for uhf, both will receive the same signal causing both to show the same thing. Only one can be set to uhf, all others must be set for ir. Simpler things have caused great ponder. Welcome to the forum, and good luck resolving the issue. On rereading your op, noticed that you stated that rear box shows (red) no signal, if this is the case, the two TV's can only be connected via avi, hdmi, or component cables for them to show the exact same thing. Both receivers must be connected to coax straight to the dish, or through a multiplexing device, they cannot be y'd together. Not sure how Shaw works, but it is likely that it is designed to work correctly, but improper installation and programing is a likelihood.

New Forester 3011DS OR 15 yr Old Bluebird Wanderlodge
kaypsmith replied to rhart's topic in Buying an RV
Just my opinion, I wouldn't trade my conversion for two class c any brand. But look carefully at the engine on the Bluebird, and the ability to have it repaired. Good luck deciding! -
Most of us don't have vacuum toilets, as they are in most cases used on high end coaches with two bathrooms. The vacuum toilets only create a vacuum while being flushed, then the wastes go to macerator style pump which pumps to the holding tank. The holding tank still works just like any conventional holding tank. Hope this is helpful in understanding why the vent still works in the holding tank, it must be there so that the tank can fill and empty correctly.
-
Pressure inside the coach being less than the outside pressure is usually the largest source of letting those bad smells into the coach, much like a vacuum cleaner, it is in a sucking mode. Making sure that the inside pressure is higher will lessen the odors. While traveling the wind will tend to suck those odors out of the tanks. Your shower and sinks have p-traps that hold water for keeping the odor out as well as the water and valve in the toilet. Those Cyclone/Siphon vent caps do help, as while driving they direct the scent towards the back of the coach. Raising the inside pressure will have a positive effect for you, close all outside sources of air, and recirculate the AC should help.

Exactly as Brett said, also just for cautionary reference, do not allow AC neutral or grounds to make contact to the bus chassis. The bus converters bible is a very good tool if you are doing the conversion yourself. No connection by me to the book, you can google it.

Don't know what kind of beetles they are, and I would like to know. I have had Japanese Beetles, "orange with black spots", some call them "lady bugs", at my home, and placing moth balls at the area where hibernate, helped in driving them away.

Cummins Generator Dies After 2-3 Seconds
kaypsmith replied to bigben6969's topic in Type A motorhomes
I know this is a little late, and is the opposite of your question. I worked on a friends 4000 watt Cummins/Onan Saturday two weeks ago, he has burned up two starters in two years, while working and getting it back to running. I noticed that when he pressed the kill button, he continued to hold that button till the engine completely stopped. When I showed him that all that was necessary to push then release, he explained that no one had told him this. What was happening, holding that button, he was actually flooding the carburetor, causing the next start to be a hard start. -
While doing the conversion, I installed a wire trace which makes it possible to add wires almost anywhere in or out of the bus. As Brett said if you can find the old wire it will be much easier than any other way on a motorhome. But my old Sportscoach had a backup camera wire that became unusable, I found the easiest route was to go through the firewall where other wires were already routed, then all the way to the back under the motorhome, using black wire ties, then up to the roof under the rear cap. If you have to resort to this method, and your coach has airbags, please put down the leveling jacks, and then for extra precaution use appropriate jack stands under the coach while you or whoever is doing this.

Ross, you are right, but I set the volume on my tv to the maximum level, then set the volume on the surround sound to the most that I will ever want to hear it, then the tv volume control will actually work. Probably not the same on every system, so it is good to know every possibility.

Make sure the tow bar is parallel with the ground, if it is not, adjust the height of the hitch at the coach to make it parallel. If the hitch is not correct, can cause your described symptoms. And welcome to the forum, Kay

Lyle, probably as simple as moving the receiver audio cables from the dvd player to the tv audio output connections. If the dvd is hdmi to the tv, that is all you should have to do, if avi cables from dvd to tv, then you will need to hook audio cables from dvd audio output to tv audio input. After doing this everything should output from the tv to the receiver/surround sound. This should not affect the dish receiver. Good luck, Kay

Has the 30 amp worked fine in the past? You probably have a control in the motorhome that detects whether on 50 amp or 30 amp. If so, I would suspect that it has shut out the circuit with the water heater to stop an outage because of overdraw. 30 amp is 120 volts from one source of your electricity. The cheater adapter splits the one source and distributes it to both sides of your electric panel in the coach. The fact that will work on generator indicates that all is well with the heater. If you need the heater at home, you will probably have to install 50 amp service at home.
