  1. I prefer towing a trailer, because I can back the trailer. My bus is 41 feet, and the trailer is 19 including the tongue. Most state and some federal parks that I go to allow me to park the trailer in a parking lot. If not available I can usually locate a facility close by that will allow me to rent a space for a small fee, as mentioned earlier, plan ahead.
  2. If it's the old orange beetle, commonly called ladybugs, the only thing that works for me is a vacuum cleaner, I put a moth ball in the canister, then suck them up.
  3. The major issue with older buses is rust. I don't own a Bluebird but have built several buses into motorhomes. Be sure to look underneath and behind any panels for rust signs. This includes the baggage compartments, battery compartments, inside the motor doors is another inspection point. The old buses are great and pretty easy to maintain, good luck with your endeavors.
  4. Hermans method is quickest and simplest, with an empty hose, a half gallon can easily be put into the system.
  5. Yes, there is a check valve built into the pump, and as stated above it may be weak, defective, or just some debris in the valve, which can cause the situation you described to happen. I always install a commercial grade check valve after the pump because they are much more reliable than the one built into the pump.
  6. Not quite as dry a county as it used to be. They have legalized sale of alcohol products which are made locally. Gatlinburg has the moonshine still on premises, with sampling going on and sales on site. Pigeonforge has new sales store right by the new ferris wheel. Both cities have local wineries also. I was there for a week, two weeks ago. Hope you enjoy the stay, and Merry Christmas to all.
  7. I travel the "backroads" frequently, very similar proportions to yours. I use an rv gps to help navigate the roads. There are some precarious places that you must look out for. I have never known of an actual minimum height requirement proposed by dot on some of these roads, and you certainly need to be aware that there can be places that you should not go. I once recall a bridge in Georgia that the local deputy came by while I was negotiating a very low bridge on the way to the local campground, he actually climbed my rear ladder and directed me under the overpass. But overall experiences have been favorable, and the sites are often well worth being cautious. Watch for weight restrictions on the bridges also. When in doubt, check it out!!!! Happy motoring, and Happy holidays.
  8. Try calling these people, they are Detroit in Little Rock. I find most of these shops still work on the Ddec 6v92, if not they know a retiree that still does. Pm me, for any help that I may give. I run that same engine. United Engines Directions Diesel Engine Dealer Address: 9401 Interstate 30, Little Rock, AR 72209 Phone:(501) 562-5565
  9. What brand is the bus, and model #, ie., mci, prevost, silver eagle? I have a friend here in B'ham, Al. who does Greyhound repairs, and knows many who do this in various cities.
  10. This size tire is commonly used on wreckers of the smaller size. You might try calling a towing service for some reference, or a possible rent.
  11. DD, I have a friend who moved the receiver to the left, in an effort to see his toad in the rear view mirror. Worked well as long as he stayed in the right lane, when moving to the center or left land, pull was too great to deal with. Only to demo DD's comment.
  12. Adding to Brett's comment, I have started using 4000 grit wet/dry sanding disc's with loop backing, can be found at automotive paint stores. I use water on the D/A tool, very high gloss for final finish.
  13. I have run my Samsung fridge for three and a half years on msw inverter, runs every time I take a trip and works well. I use a 3000 watt msw inverter to power everything in the coach except air conditioners.
  14. Good news is the Samsung that you chose is only 3.9 amp maximum draw, which means that it can be run on an existing circuit pretty comfortably. The bathroom circuit should be gfci, and downstream on the gfci circuit sometimes is not a good idea for a refrigerator, as the capacitor start motor on the compressor often causes enough delay that the gfci will trip, not from overcurrent, but from the delay caused by the capacitor. If using the bathroom circuit, be sure to wire in before the gfci outlets.
  15. I like Creekside, been using them twice yearly for last seven years.
  16. 2005 models were pre LED monitors, they were commonly called LCD display, the LED versions are still LCD but use led for lighting the screen. The older LCD uses a neon type backlight which uses a system similar to a ballast on a fluorescent light. Sometimes the bulb will go out and sometimes the "ballast". Anyway, there probably is a replacement screen for your unit. Hope Monaco can point you to the right source. Happy Holidays, Kay
  17. Congratulations Ray, looks good!
  18. The Samsung fridge that you chose is identical to mine. I installed it three years ago in my coach. It has served very well, separate temp controls and holds exactly the set temp. Also, I run it on a modified wave form inverter, and it doesn't mind at all. Of course, if you have a pure sine wave, will work equally well. The icemaker took two days before it started making ice, but was on the pump, once it started was fine, I tell you this because if I installed again, I would make sure it was on regular water source next time.
  19. Aquahot is being used a lot, it is diesel fired, and uses 12 volt for pump and blowers. Although LP gas is still a viable source for the furnace. I built my coach 3 years ago, and still installed a gas stove, because I like the ability to cook on gas when boondocking.
  20. With campgrounds going to 50 amp service, which is 50 per 120 volt leg, and that equates to 100 amp total. Now with house type refrigerators which a few years ago required 12 or more amps, some of the newer ones using less than 4 amps today, certainly is more friendly to the usage of the current now available. Also the house type fridge requires no vent through the roof, and no chimney for insects to clog up. And as mentioned by others the induction cook tops use far less energy, and are cleaner to use than gas. This is just a few reasons for the trend
  21. If the surge protector has all the proper checks, ie., checks L1 and L2, for faults such as overvoltage, reversed polarity, open grounds, then I would agree with the previous owner. The device that Brett mentioned would for those who do not have the test ability already installed. And as others mentioned on the forum, have their own means for testing. Personally I use a multimeter (volt ohm meter), but I have used this and other devices for over 55 years, and am comfortable with my method. Welcome to the forum, and hope you have many happy trails, and tales!
  22. A search on e-bay with your info brought up several choices, hopefully a good one.
  23. For locking purposes, a bicycle cable lock made of stainless cable works very well, regular bolt cutters won't even cut the cable.
  24. Good work Rich, I lost boost about 85 miles from home back in July. Limped in, and found the pipe between the left manifold and the Y, just before the turbo had broken in half. Took several hours but was fortunate to get it replaced myself. Parts, about $350.00.
