From the album: Back wall
The next thing to do is remove the carpet from the raise step area. This step is here because the coach has a stacked radiator and charge air cooler in the rear and this makes clearance for that. Notice the 1/2 inch gap through the back wall. That is the coach makers quality at it's best. NOT© ray huffman

From the album: Back wall
My wife complained of little diesel smell and draft at rear of coach. Also there was dirt getting in the rear cabinet drawers. I removed the cabinet from the rear wall and found that the coach builder thought that this thin carpet would fill a 1/2 inch gap through rear wall.© ray huffman

Dash Cam - Do You Have One, Would You Purchase One
huffypuff replied to JakeR's topic in Electronics
Both rear and side cameras are useful. I first check if a car is next to the toad, then I use the turn signal to see if a car is next to the coach. One day we will have a four point drive cam recording at all times. Are you listening Silverleaf? http://www.silverleafelectronics.com/- 24 replies

huffypuff replied to JakeR's topic in Electronics
I got something similar to this from same company over a year ago but newer models have come out. Seems to be getting better as time goes on. I have a couple of video clips I would like to share from Redmond, OR and you be impress of the quality. Let me know how to post on here. http://www.zetronix.com/Car-Cameras/c59/2K-HD-Wide-Angle-Nightvision-GPS-Car/Truck-DVR-Dash-Camera(275)/product_info.html?gclid=CNKZkbfQ9sECFUeBfgodxRoAIQ- 24 replies

Dash Cam - Do You Have One, Would You Purchase One
huffypuff replied to JakeR's topic in Electronics
At Redmond, I walked out of a seminar because a vendor was trying to sell his own less than $100 cheap dash cam. No GPS, software, mapping or sound and low resolution. A cheap China knock off. A GoPro with it's HD is OK for some things but not really a fully feature dash cam. I got a fully feature dash cam for less than a GoPro would of cost me just to have it set up not quite the same.- 24 replies

Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway - State Road 11
huffypuff replied to eodted's question in Destinations/Attractions
I been to these highways in the Jeep thank goodness leaving the coach at the RV park. -
Bill, I just noticed that you need a remote monitor to read out the fault if it shuts you down. The portable has it built on the unit. I wonder why??
-
Jeff, We travel on our own with no one to speed us up or slow us down. When you hit the Yukon you will want to go slow and have a stone shield in front of your Jeep and a blanket across it's windshield. There will be a lot of chip sealing going on so if you can keep the windows closed tight and put a filter on the A/C inlet you can keep most of the dirt outside. Depending on the size of your engine air filter you may have to replace it when you get to Alaska and again when you get home. So much for Canadian road construction expect some damage. I got a busted windshield from a construction dump truck carrying rocks flying from the opposite direction. We still had a great time but if we were to do it again, we would fly there and rent a RV from http://www.greatalaskanholidays.com/

Jim you would have even more of a mess on your hands but I'm not trying to scare anyone or shake anything up. Still will be out in less than a minute (seconds). Rather that dwell on if valuables can get legs, lets focus on protection of our coaches electrical system and electronics as Brett posted.
-
Jack you can use one of these to slow down it getting legs but not fool proof. A simple screwdriver can make a wired one get legs also. It would only take seconds to remove coach end of cord with power screwdriver and you would be left with raw wires on the ground. Not pretty. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/surge-guard-universal-lock-hasp/44333#readreviews

Carl I never had a place I couldn't plug in even at Redmond,OR event where the outlets were on the ground. BTW 1 of the 4 outlet was bad and I reported it and got it fixed protecting another person coach. Had no problem even though the unit was laying on the ground Jim that looks like a good unit also but I decided to stay portable and don't regret it. I like the continue protection than just checking with a meter device.

When I had a 93 Southwind DP with 5.9 ISB I had to drill and Helicoil out 3 broken bolts when replacing cracked exhaust manifold. That restored normal power. Then I modified the injector pump and waste gate orifice for more smoke and turbo. It only smoked a little off the line until the turbo kicked in then she ripped for that small engine.

I have the surge guard with all that built in. Simple process to follow is plug in the surge guard first by itself and check the LED's on the surge guard. If all green LED lights than it is OK to plug in to the surge guard and it will still protect against surge and spikes. Also you can always check at a glance if there is any problem as a red LED would light up. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/portable-surge-guards-with-lcd-display-50-amp/58465

Refrigerator: Replacing Norcold with House Fridge
huffypuff replied to gwdoug2002's topic in Modifications
I'm an older folk and lifting both refrigerators out through the drivers window is out of the question. Also I would have to have the driver seat and steering wheel out of the way so they won't get damage. Plus you would need a forklift which I don't have. This is an option that works without worrying about resealing the window and forklift. Click the link for detail instruction with pictures. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/samsung-rf197-installed-in-2006-diplomat-40pdq-102210.html -

Black & Gray Tank Level Indicators Incorrect
huffypuff replied to brown774's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
I use Aqua-Kem in 8 oz bottles and don't have a problem. I dump one bottle in the toilet and rinse the bottle in the bathroom sink. I hold the waste until travel and dump at a rest stop so to shake it all up. The tanks come out cleaner then if I use the built in flush nozzle. If you are at a campsite for longer period time and have to dump there then you have to use the flush nozzle for the final rinse. -
Refrigerator: Replacing Norcold with House Fridge
huffypuff replied to gwdoug2002's topic in Modifications
I read on another website that you don't have to put the old and new through the window if you strip them both down and remove the passenger seat and handrails. -
Glad you got it fixed but please share what fixed it.
