Fresh Water Tank Fills By Itself
hermanmullins replied to BruceN53's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
Bruce, The check valve is in the inlet side of the pump. Replacing it is just like replacing the washer. They may be purchased at most RV stores and when you see it it will make since to you. By the way, do you have a shut off valve between the tank and the pump? If so till you replace the check valve you can just shut off the valve between the tank and pump. Don't forget to open it back up when you disconnect from the city water. Herman -

RV Dealers: Are They All Like This?
hermanmullins replied to mwilson8@rochester.rr.com's topic in General Discussion
Gary, Not coming to the dealer's defense, that is a terrible way to show a coach, however what you have in the picture is not a water hose. What that is, isthe outside shower wand. Still not a nice site. Herman -
Wayne, Strange thing are afoot. This morning I awoke to find that during the night my Windows 8 had been updated to Windows 10. I didn't want 10 but now I have it. Lost all of my favorites and now I have to rebuilt them one by one. Only God and Microsoft love Windows 10 and I am not too sure about God. I want my Windows 7 back. Herman

One-time Anitfreeze Leak in Sub-freezing Weather
hermanmullins replied to smarksel's topic in Type A motorhomes
Mark, The next time you have to run the Aqua Hot check the over flow reservoir. It has a low and a high mark. Check it now to see if it is above the low mark when cool. If it is above the mark the system may have been releasing the extra coolant as it expanded with the heat. Too full is what it sound to me. Did it heat the coach well? It is a great unit when operating correctly. Herman -
I like the M & G Engineering brake. Just plug in the air line from the coach, connect the brakeaway cable and go. No worries. Herman

Jeep Wrangler Towing Advice for Motorhome "Newbie"
hermanmullins replied to fagnaml's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
DD, The M & G Brake has a small air tank in the system. It is connected to the M & G brake cylinder, which is mounted between the Power brake booster and the master cylinder, it contains enough PSI to lock down the brakes incase of a complete disconnect. That is the disconnect cable I mentioned in my first answer. The cable is connected to a small solenoid that is connected to the battery. It draws no power unless activated by a complete disconnection. If you go on to www.mgengineering.com website you can read and see how simple the system is. Herman -
Jeep Wrangler Towing Advice for Motorhome "Newbie"
hermanmullins replied to fagnaml's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Mike, Congratulations on your coach. Sound like a winner. Jeep Wrangler is a great vehicle to tow. As far as a supplemental brake system, I am one of those advocates for having one on your vehicle. Texas requires one on towing anything over 1,200 lbs. Should you be involved in an accident, even though it was not your fault you could be denied coverage because you should not be on the road in a non complying vehicle. I know it is a stickler but it can happen. I used the Blue OX towing base plates and tow bar and am completely satisfied with it. Road master is also one of the better one also. As for supplemental braking systems, I am the biggest advocate going for the M & G Engineering unit. To me it is the best and simplest unit made. Once installed all you have to do is plug in the air line and clip on the brake away cable (just a clip). Oh yes you will also need to hook up the tow vehicle. Check them out on www.mgengineering.com. They are in Athens Texas on Hwy 19 between Athens and Canton. I am sending you a PM on our chapter. Herman -

hermanmullins replied to mac8253's topic in Buying an RV
Mac, If your are searching for someone to help in financing your motor home purchase look at Essex. They can find an institution that will cover your need at a very competitive rate. Essex Credit www.essexcredit.com/fmca 866-377-3948 We used them on our last purchase and got a rate 3 point better then the dealer was giving. They placed us with Wachovia now Wells Fargo. Herman -
Replace Cord On Front Windshield Curtain
hermanmullins replied to SherryCasteen's topic in Modifications
Sherry, It is the same as a curtain rod in your home just that it is curved. A complete loop that starts and stops at the large end slide. Lopped in the middle over the end down to the tenisioner and back up and back to the slide. Easy as one, two, ten. Herman -

Cracked Windshields In Beaver Coaches
hermanmullins replied to angieandrickblanshan's topic in Chassis
Angie and Rick Welcome to the Forum. Yours is not the first Beaver to have a windshield problem. A friend of ours had a 1999 Beaver Patriot Thunder that the passengers windshield continued to pop out on the upper outside corner. They had it to the factory many times. Beaver even replaced the front cap at one time. The problem continued until Monaco glued it in. However when they sold it 4 years ago it was cracked but there was no sign of a rock chip anywhere near the crack. There has to be a design flaw in the body to the chassis. I am afraid no one has come up with a solution. Good luck and let us know your outcome. Herman -
Ron, Yes that is a mess. It looks as if you might have a charging issue. First I would check voltage when connected shore power. Your inverter/charger may not be dropping back once the batteries are fully charged and causing they to gas out. Once you have that problem solved I would remove the batteries and the trays and clean them down to bare metal prime and paint with several coats of a rust inhibitor paint. Before replacing the batteries I would put down a layer of baking soda under the batteries. In the mean time I would open the battery compartment any time I was on shore power. Let it air out when charging. Herman

Road From Alamosa To Durango
hermanmullins replied to oscarpug's question in Destinations/Attractions
Have stayed at Wolf Creek Run RV Resort is great and will stay there any and every time we are in the area. They only have 27 sites that are all owned by Rvers.(don't try to stay there over Labor Day Week End, all the owners come it that time) They are as friendly as any place we have ever stayed. They have a Hi and Howdy time each evening and a Continental Breakfast to die for. Yes it is a bit pricey but well worth every cent. Herman -
Roy, We had GMAC for several years. When we were not using the coach we would call and put the coach in "Storage" for a minimum of 30 days. This meant we didn't pay for liability coverage for that period. Comprehensive stayed in effect. This kept the coach covered in case of fire or some other loss other than collision. A must for the lien holder which most of us have. GMAC was good coverage but we found a better price. We are now with Texas Farm Bureau. Herman

Navy Vet, Welcome. Yes the solenoid are in the front compartment drivers side. There are two of them and they are 12 volt constant duty solenoids. Take a volt meter and with the key on check voltage on both large terminals. With the key on, all four terminals should read 12 volts. If neither reads 12 volts on both lugs check the small terminal for 12 volt. 12 volts= bad solenoid, no 12 volts you need to look reason for no power. When you find power go back and recheck the solenoid. Herman

Wheel Chocks - Needed And If Yes, Most Preferred
hermanmullins replied to garyejones's topic in Type A motorhomes
I have a Blue OX tow bar. It has levers to release the bars. My safety cables are the coiled type. I just wrap the cable around the tow bar and over the levers. Then I get in and put the truck back into 2 wheel drive. I will then put the truck in drive and or reverse depending on which way the slope is. With the pressure of the cables on the levers the bar will release and I am able to put slack in the bars and place the truck in park. Herman -
Thanks a lot Kay. :-) I remember the song very well, it was the lullaby my father sang to me when I was 2 years old. Herman

Gary, Partly yes and partly no. When on the road we always leave any over night stop with empty holding tanks and 1/2 full of water. Any time I stop for fuel I will fill up completely. I don't like to stop so often, wait in line for the next pump and have to do it all over again so soon. I average in the 7.9 to 8.0 GPM with a full tank (130 gallons) or with a 1/4 full tank, about 30 gallons. When we travel with friends we will always top off when the one with the smallest tank needs to fill up. Doing this means that we wont have to stop later to fill our tank and they are still half full. (just being a good friend) I also stop and top off my tank when we are about 30 miles from home so the tank will be full when it goes into the garage. Herman

Check with Essex in the FMCA magazine. They are brokers and can find great rates. Herman

Joe, When you do pull your starter open up the solenoid. Check and clean all contact points. Easily done with the starter out and my prevent starting problems down the road. If you have never pulled your starter on a Cummins, be prepared it is HEAVY :-O, about 60 pounds. I did mine and this 79 year old found out he can still press that much laying on his back. Let us know how the sensors change out goes. Herman

Gary, My heart goes out to your wife. I do not have COPD but have several friend that do and the have both Oxygen Bottles and concentrators. I do carry an O2 bottle, regulator and mask when we go to the mountains. The altitude does get to me until I get acclimated. Not too often, but every now and then I will take a few deep breathes of O2 and it helps. How does she do in dry areas? If better then come on down to Texas. Here she can get it all both High and Low altitudes, Humid and dry air, Deserts and forest, we got it all so come on down "You'll hear me now". Herman

Gary, If you could list the Make, Model, year and chassis we can better help. If you know the maker of your leveler/air suspension you might go on their web site and see if they have a manual you can down load. Each time I have had a problem with something on our coach I will go to he Mfg. site and download their manual. Of course I have a large library now. Good luck. Herman
