  1. It should come out as one piece. The lens may be glued to the whole thing. It sound as if you are thinking of replacing the whole thing?? If it is broken that is one thing however if the lens is cloudy that can be buffed out. There are kits you can get to do yourself or there are shops that can do it for you. Herman
  2. Dead Eye, What kind is a personal choice. Where to buy is a place to decide. Every thing we buy now a days will sometimes need serviced or replaced. You may be able to make a great deal from you Buddy but when you a 2,000 miles away from your Buddy it is have to get it replaced, difficult. However if you get your battery from, WalMart, AutoZone, O'Rileys, NAPA, you get the picture, you have places all over the country to get service or replacement. Herman
  3. chuckles, CC went bankrupted several years ago. They did make a fine unit. Everything in a MH come from outside vendors and you should have no problems with parts and service. If you need body work that can be done by most RV repair shops. Engines and transmissions are the same Lots of placed to have them serviced. Herman
  4. Sophia7, Welcome to the Forum. I believe your headlight units are secured from the back side of the unit. Look under your coach behind the headlight and you should find the studs that hold the units in place. At the same time if you are just looking at replacing the bulbs you should be able to twist the socket and remove it to change the bulb without removing the complete unit. Herman
  5. Be very careful when you decide on the size of your pad. Tom is correct. Think about the future and not just now. At present time if all you want is some concrete under yout tires go out to your local A/C supply house and purchase Compressor pads. They come on 24" x24", 30"x30" and so on. They might support the weight for one season. If you just put a pad under each wheel you will need thicker concrete then if you made a full size pad say 12' x 40', because of weight distribution. Think of the future. You put down 4 pads, and then decide that it is hard to lift the coach so you can do some work under the coach because your Jacks don't hit the pads. Mighi I suggest that you build your pad with several things in mind. Make it long enough that if you upgrade and get a longer coach you will have a pad that it will fit on. Also make it wide enough that if you decide to enclose the coach you will have room to open the door and or compartments. Two years ago I built a building to house our coach with room for a shop. I thought 50' deep should be plenty of room for our 40' coach. And it is but I only have just a couple of feet at each end to walk around, put up a ladder to clean the windshield and so on. You will be glad you made the pad longer and wide when the DW doesn't have to walk in the dirt and mud to load the coach for a trip. Happy travels and I know you will make the right decision for your needs. Herman
  6. M Kenway, Your coach has one and maybe more 12 volt continuous solenoids. They look just like the old starter solenoid on Fords, You have two large studs on each side and two small stud on the front between the two large studs. The large stud on the left should have 12+ volts and you should have 12 + volts on the right stud also. If not turn your key on and check the right stud again. if you still do not have 12 volts you have a bad solenoid. You need to check all of your solenoids. If you have a bad solenoid be sure that when you purchase a new one that it is a 12 Volt Continuous Solenoid, Herman
  7. keklettk, Welcome to the Forum. Has your hydraulic slides fail to open or close at this time? If not and you are just wondering, contact the MFG. of your hydraulic unit. I wil bet it HWH. Herman
  8. Yak61, Welcome to the Forum. Glad to hear you have had good results with the LEDs. But I must ask, why would you have your foot on the brake pedal for over 20 minutes? Herman
  9. I have made it my choice to never worry about MPG or if I have to pay too much for fuel during a trip. If I do it ruins the trip for me. The time I get up tight is when the Visa bill comes in. That is when everything come together. Don't get me wrong I do try for the best fuel prices but still don't let it get me down. Have some good trips and worry after the bill comes in. Herman
  10. bdemattia, Brett is correct, sound just like the solenoid. Easy to replace but remember that what you ask for at the parts house is a for a Continuous Duty Solenoid. Not a starter solenoid. Herman
  11. Earl, Welcome to the Forum. You did not say if you were storing your coach on concrete or dirt, under cover or out in the open. If undercover on concrete, plywood would be OK, if out in the open that would be different. Out in the open I would put my tires on 2" X 12" boards and cover my tires to protect them from suns UV Rays. Herman
  12. Larry, congrats on the new coach. We have 02 Monaco (40') with the Cummins 400 ISL. We tow a Chevrolet 1500 Extended Cab 4 down. I would believe 6 and love to get 15 but that ain't goin to happen. (unless you can travel on a road that goes down hill for 4 or 5 hundred miles). We get 6.5 to 7 MPG on a steady basis. Good luck and enjoy your new rig. Herman
  13. I just read on the net where there has been 50,000 barrels of Bad Regular Unleaded fuel shipped from BP into the Northern Area of Indiana. It stated that for vehicles that only purchased a couple of gallons it can be diluted with fresh gas. But cars that filled up can have a real problem. Not only must the tank be drained and flushed so do all of the fuel lines and possibly the injectors cleaned. BP has said they will pay for repairs. Here is the best case for keeping receipts. To better understand this google BP bad fuel. Hope this help a lot of people. Herman
  14. Thanks Bill. I now remember the difference between A/C and Max A/C. Herman
  15. Brett, Question, how do all of these new A/C unit in vehicles work? When on "Auto" does it run on recirculate or Outside air? Herman
  16. Peggy, As you could see from the article about our 45th Anniversary Rally in Canton, Texas this year we HAVE FUN. We had three families join at the Rally and have 5 more since then. Here is something I try to do. When I see someone posting on the Forum, be they a newbie or an old timer, and I see that they are in our area. I will PM them, introduce my self and invite them to join us at a Rally. We have a mailing list called prospects and with the folks I contact, with their permission we put them on the list to receive notification for each Rally. In Rockport, Texas in May we had two very nice families come, one had already joined and it was their first Rally and the other visited and joined. It is simple Introduce and Invite. Herman
  17. Story of boondocking and not meaning to. We left home in the late afternoon. Got to Blackwell, OK. Saw two travel trailers parked in the Braums Parking lot (they were closed). Spent the night went in and had their wonderful Biscuits with Sausage Gravy and thanked them for allowing us to spend the night. They said no problem that was why they had the lot striped for RVs. Went on into Cheyenne and spent three days in front of our kids house hooked up to their power. Left and went up to see Mount Rushmore. It was October and the only park opened had elec and sewer but had already drained their water lines. We said that would be OK if we could fill our tank. They said fine and I asked how much per night, we planed to stay two nights. He said,"would $10.00 a night be too much?" I handed him a twenty. When we left The Black Hill and headed East we went across S. D. and could not find a place that night. We ended up in a rest area and went to K.C. the next day. Parked that night at WalMart and spent the night with the wife's sister. The next day we went to Miami, OK to see the wife's mother and spent 2 nights hooked up to her power. Then back to Texas, We traveled 4,400 miles and spent $20.00 for parking. Would love to take that trip again. Herman
  18. John, don't hold me to this but if I remember correctly when I changed the one on my 4kw Onan I removed one of the side covers. You will have a hose clamp on the inlet side and a threaded line on the outlet. Hope I remembered right. Herman
  19. John, Blue Ox True Center is like an airplane trim control. Pilots are always adjusting the trim when flying. There steering units are the same way. When you are in a cross wind you will adjust the MH trim for the cross wind. but when you turn into the wind you will have to adjust again. And when you turn back to the cross wind , you adjust again. I my self have a wonderful steering aid in my coach, ME. If I have to adjust every time the wind changes I just do it with the steering wheel. By the way it didn't cost me a penny for my unit. When the day is done I just feed him a beer and give him some rest. Happy steering and good luck Herman
  20. Fresh gas, Fresh fuel filter and Seafoam. Sounds like a plan to me. Herman
  21. Brett, Thanks for the information you just gave out. I need to have my coolant checked on my next oil change this month. Herman
  22. Yak, I'm not doubting your word. I have just never seen 4 stop light on a vehicle. I have seen one stop light with the running light together, hence the 1157 bulb and a turn signal separate from the stop light. From what you are saying I would check for a short in the wiring for the stop light. You could remove all the bulbs and with a continuity ground one side and check the stop side of each plug to see if there is a short. If the cont. light goes on or buzzes it means that there is a short in that stop light bulb wire, some where. and yes if there is a short even the 15 amp fuse would still get hot. The short could be ever so slight and would cause the fuse to get hot and blow. One more thought, pull all of the 1157 bulbs and have someone apply the brakes. See if the fuse still gets hot and blows. This could tell you if you have a short and you could check with the tester as I said before. Hope this helps and I didn't confuse you too much. Herman
  23. If your generater is an Onan, The fuel filter may be accessed from a trap door in the bottom of the unit. One load of bad gas can cause a lot of problems. If you change the filter, they can be bought from Camping World or an Onan Dealer, and the unit runs like it should I would change the fuel filter on your coach at the same time. The 450 hours is just a guide. Also if your gen set is a 4KW Onan make sure your oil level is correct. What you have is a Splash Lube Engine. That means you do not have a oil pump nor a filter. The lubrication come from the rod cap dipping into the oil as it turns. If you are low on oil you may be over heating and that could be the reason for the shut down. 1) Check oil Level. If low top off and run gen set (with a load on it) and see if it still shuts down. 2) Then change to fuel filter. Small cost no matter wht. Good Luck. Herman
  24. Yak61 Welcome to the Forum. What size Fuse do you have on the Stop light? If it is a 10 amp you might change to a 15 amp and see if that helps I see that you are saying that there are 6 of the 1157 bulbs I can only count 4. Two on the coach and two on the toad. Are you counting the third light on each? In the past I would tow, with a 1 Ton Ford Duely, tandum trailers with both trailer wired on a Harness. All lights on both would light and all turn and stop lights worked. I continued to burn out Head Light Switches due to the load. But I never had a problem with just the stop lights. If your fuse is hot when it blows, it's doing what it was designed to do. Blow when over loaded. what you may have is a bare wire that i causing the heat and blowing the fuse. Check for a frayed wire somewhere in the harness. I would start at the plug on the coach and go from there. Good luck. Herman
