  2. Definitely make sure the valves are closed. Ask my DW how she knows that and will never get near a grey tank (or any tanks) valve. For the Black, I dump while the back wash is activated watching the color of the water flow through a clear elbow. When it is almost clear I'll close the tank valve and set my watch timer for 2 or 3 minutes then open the valve. I may do this a couple times. Every other dump (or so) I'll ask DW to fill and flush. She will fill the bowl to the brim and flush, doing this two times. If I notice after the second time she does this that the water flowing is not to my liking she may do it a third time. When I'm satisfied I'll close the valve and let the back flush fill for 1 minute. For the grey I dump after the black to clean the line, plus, I have an adapter that I purchased at Wallyworld that attaches to the sewer line and I run water through it for a few minutes. After all that and stowing the gear I'll go in and put one smelly packet in the toilet along with two cap fulls of Calgon water softener. That has made a big difference when dumping. To each their own, but that's my stroke.
  3. I studied for the test. About 15 minutes ago I could not post in the reply section of any thread. I tried other browsers besides Firefox to no avail. I logged completely out, restudied, then logged back in and it is now working. Oh well! Make the test easier please.
  4. Just a passing thought: The mechanisms gears are wide open to road debris. If there are any debris between the ratchet plate and the step frame the current limiting switch will keep it from operating.

  6. In the 8 years that I have had a PT-50C I have had problems twice, and both time they were there at the ready with a repair or replace. I hope the merger can keep up that type of service. Thanks for posting the link Jim.

  8. Disable all the add-ons and restart the browser. If the signature is there just start enabling the add-ons one by one to see if one of them causes the problem. If after disabling the add-ons and still no signature, well, punt.
  9. FAX the paperwork to you. Sign it and FAX it back. We have done that on several occasions. If you don't want to FAX it back, tape it to the rubber mallet and have Thor (Linda) toss it back to Galveston.

  11. I put my XC (entire RV) into the Freightliner shop every year. I was concerned about the play/lash so I asked that they check it. The technician said he torqued all the bolts to the front end. It made a big difference. However, there is still some "wandering" if I can call it that so this past year I put on the Safe-T-Plus system. What a major difference that has made. Totally satisfied with it.
  12. Some black ties are not UV Stabilized and are prone to UV radiation. Choose ones that state they are UV Stabilized. Those large packages for a buck or two are most likely not UV Stabilized.

    RV GPS

    Addendum: I like our Garman 760 LMT and especially the big screen. It has been very accurate on height restrictions. It is programmable for the height of the RV. It also will let you know when you get on a road that is not known for accessibility. I like the way stop input on the fly. Example: Planning from point A to point B and along the way you want a Flying J - just add it in and it will ask you for "along the route" and when you say yes it now becomes point B and the original point B becomes point C. It has been very accurate for traffic congestion and accidents. It has a lot of other bells and whistles and if the 770 is an improvement I'd say go for it. One of these days I'll get to point Z

    RV GPS

    I have had the Garman 760 LMT for a couple years now. If the 770 is similar then it is like any GPS it does have its limitations and is not "always" right. DW has an iPad and it is also used when we are on the road. When in doubt i follow the co-pilot navigator. It also helps to look at the route before departing, like the night before. Many times I have seen where taking one road may not be the quickest by a couple minutes or more but it is the easiest. One route may take 3 hours and 12 minutes and the other easier one 3 hours and 20 minutes. Not a big brain job for me to choose the easier route. Hey the Garman 770 LMT is a great device with construction and traffic updates. I would purchase another one just like it if it were to break. Just be aware of limitations.
  16. Wait until you get a "Brake Check!" Brake Check - cars pull in front of you then slam on their brakes. The especially do it to 18 wheelers but a few MH's have had it done to them also.
  17. FMCA Assist is the big bang for the buck. Cheapest insurance program anyone could possibly find.
  18. Herman, I spent two years on the USS Eldorado (AGC-11) Marine Communications Detachment, Ships Company and I can say unequivocally yours (sailors) does smell. Don't ever say yours doesn't. Carl, payback is the Devil.

    Rustoleum puts out a good rust reformer that I have used with success.
  21. I do basically the same thing but without the 3 way manifold. Before the final 3 minute fill and dump I have DW do the Power Flush as described above. We have never had a sewer smell in the MH. (Unless I'm using the BR)

  23. Have you looked in truck stores, like Freightliner, for trucker's seats. They have several different models some all automatic, some air ride, etc.
  24. Hi Chris, just a few items. Are the duals on a 1 ton dually the same as the duals on a motorhome? Most likely with very slight differences. Can a MH operator drive a 1 ton pulling a 40' 5th wheel, backing it up, etc.? Probably not. I do say that my personal experience going from a 5th wheel to the MH was a no brainer. I found it easier to drive the MH. I would expect that FMCA would have MH drivers drive MH's and 5th wheel drivers drive 5th weels. 100% that FMCA should be self sustaining. I think increasing the membership, and still making cuts, to include other than MH's would achieve that goal.
