Cost Of Flat Tow Package Installation
kaypsmith replied to lastdance89143's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Most KIA dealers also think that their clients was born rich, I've owned 5 to date, and my wife currently drives the last one. -
Hence the name "DISCOVERY" , LOL, now we know where the name was derived from. Welcome to the forum Steve, since no one else has welcomed you yet, and happy holidays to all.

Removing Old Graphics/Painting New Graphics
kaypsmith replied to rfsod48's topic in General Discussion
The vinyl decals are pretty easy to remove, I've done many over the years. A good heat gun is the easier way, hair dryer will work but takes a whole lot longer. Start by warming the outer edge of the graphic and then start gently lifting the decal very slowly and remove it gently in a solid sheet by moving the heat back and forth slowly just ahead of the area that you are peeling, a little practice on the smallest ones works well. If you talk to a professional vinyl sign maker, most already have experience with the process, also they can guide you about replacement. Painting sure looks the best, but is much more expensive. The vinyl should look good for 8 to 12 years depending on quality of the vinyl, remember that cheap is cheap, the better grade cost more and will last longer. If you go this route, get instructions on proper maintenance so that it will the longest period of time. Do not use harsh detergents as they will start deterioration sooner than later. My entire coach is vinyl wrapped, I did the entire coach by myself, been 4 years now and still cleans up nicely. -
Surge Guard Cutting Shore Power Off?
kaypsmith replied to eric@babin.com's topic in Type A motorhomes
It is not clear why the portable surge guard is not seeing an issue, but it appears that the CG pedestal probably is miswired. By using the pigtail 50 to 30, you have eliminated either L1 or L2 from the CG pesestal, because the pigtail uses only one of the CG 120 volt legs, then redistributes one 120 leg to both L1 and L2 going to your coach. As Brett posted the proper way to test the pedestal, either use that method with a VOM (volt ohm meter), or if you are uncomfortable testing 240 volts, you surely need to make the CG host aware of the situation and ask that it be corrected, even though you have gotten a work around for now, please do it for the future tenants of that site. Also, if the vom test proves the CG is defective, I believe that I would in the future, not rely on that device.- 33 replies

Surge Guard Cutting Shore Power Off?
kaypsmith replied to eric@babin.com's topic in Type A motorhomes
Sorry that I didn't notice this also. Are you by chance plugged into a 30 amp pedestal with using converter pigtail from 30 to 50 amps? This error is telling that somewhere along the line something is wired so that the neutral is now what is feeding the L1, should be 120 more less, and that now the neutral is what is feeding the ground. Now you stated that the portable surge guard is indicating "all clear", meaning that the CG pedestal is ok. This means that something is miswired between the two surge guards, or of course that one surge guard is not correct, this highly unlikely since it was working before. Please let us know if your RV is 30 amp or 50 amp, and also what is the amperage at the campground pedestal, 3 prong plug = 30 amp, 4 prong plug = 50 amp.- 33 replies

Surge Guard Cutting Shore Power Off?
kaypsmith replied to eric@babin.com's topic in Type A motorhomes
It certainly sounds as though there is an issue with the ATS side of the surgeguard/ATS, it could be as simple as a loose connection within or just before this unit. Have you tested the unit using only the generator? If it works correctly, then there could be a bad connection inside the ATS, or even in the power line between the portable surge guard and the ATS. I would even go as far as trying a different campsite hookup just to eliminate the possibility of intermittent problem with that CG pedestal.- 33 replies

City Water Also Fills Fresh Water Tank
kaypsmith replied to 53rambler's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
I have always placed an inline checkvalve on the outlet side of the pump with the flow arrow away from the pump. The one that is on the pump is a rubber diaphragm that is weak by design, and can often be held open by just a small piece of debris, and for that reason, anytime I do any plumbing work on a coach I add a checkvalve, they are inexpensive and can be acquired at almost any store that sells plumbing supplies. And of course this will only help if it is the checkvalve that is not working, as Brett said the fill valve could be the culprit and the checkvalve will not correct that situation. -
Not trying to get too far away from op subject, those small blinking triangles work great at the top of the cones for breakdown purposes.

Two good HD bottle jacks for air bag replacement is almost a must. If you are not a smoker, get someone who is, air the coach up and while it is, let the smoker blow heavy smoke exhales at every fitting, watch the smoke movement. Using this method saves time over the spray bottle at every fitting. Of course you will need the bottle to verify exactly where the leak actually is.

It's usually not our fault either, I parked 1/2 block away from the Cracker Barrel in Tallahassee Fl., several years ago, no cars any near me, when we came out, there was a car within 2 feet of my front end, nothing behind, I tried to back my 4 down toad, couldn't go more than 2 feet before the toad would jackknife due to the angle that it was parked in. I of course unhooked and DW backed it up. That's when I purchased 4 of the orange cones and started placing them in front, most that will park that close, are so lazy that they want move them to park that close now.

With the advent of the very thin led tv's, one can locate one that is pretty close to or slightly larger ones, then make a plywood door that fits the hole where the crt style tv is, then use heavy duty hinges to mount the door with the new thin screen tv to the door, which will give new cabinet space for more storage.

Yes Deer Run pull throughs are about 70 feet, but they have a place to park trailers etc. at no extra charge. If you need over 70, as stated by others is pretty hard to find, in most places. Some have a few that just happened that way because of the lay of the land. There is an ACOE near Eufaula Al., called White Oak Creek Camp, located on Lake Eufaula, that over half of their sites are 90 to 120 feet, and of course they honor Golden Age or what ever is the new name for it. Problem is there is that 2 week limit or you must move, although I think that that rule is suspended for the winter months. Lake city RV park, just above your stated home location is under new ownership, and they have greatly improved that CG over the last 2 years, and they have extended stay rates. Happy trails

I can't answer your direct question, but will add in case you are not already acquainted with Deer Run campground near Troy Alabama, they offer weekly and monthly rates. Excellent cg and one of the better hunting locations in Alabama.

I just timed the connection speed on my PC, 12 seconds to resolve dns, then 4 seconds to open the page. Hope this helps I T in trying to reach a solution to the speed issue. If the powers to be will PM me the external IP address, I will be glad to do a gateway test to help resolve the issue. Never mind, I have got it, 12 hops from Birmingham Al., less than 500 ms to your door, problem still lies within your farm.

Connect On The Go - Round 2
kaypsmith replied to BillAdams's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
Is the I-phones and the mini I pad on a Verizon plan, or are you using another service? The Mifi is a wireless router which you can actually with you, in a purse or pocket or even in a case that one could wear on the belt. I works just like any home router except that it receives over the air with the cell phone service. So in answer to your question no you can not be five miles away and expect to use the mifi. But if you already have data service for your Mac devices, and do not disconnect from that service, then you will still have service from that source. -
Here is a 7.0 cf model 12/120 volts. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/norcold--de-0061-ac-dc-refrigerator-freezer-right-hinge--5388699?cm_mmc=PS-_-Google-_-GSC%20-%20Vendors-_-5388699&product_id=5388699&adpos=1o2&creative=108421556644&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&mrkgadid=3076579023&mrkgcl=481&rkg_id=h-8764752a9641d2adeef123c827a70d3b_t-1512843651&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsK7RBRDzARIsAM2pTZ-HjJeItKi0hZN5-pgU8MTjdqBNvdYOfJzEUm1s2putvpt5OKMkV88aAm1KEALw_wcB

How Low Can You Go (With A Drop Hitch)?
kaypsmith replied to cscarlson's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
In most places of reasonable travel you should be fine, just remember when entering driveways and the like you will need to be mindful of the fact that the receiver is down pretty low. Best to go to some of these types of places without the toad and have the wife or friend to watch for you as you slowly make an approach to these types of dips, if it is going to bottom out, don't force yourself to drive on. Just a couple of these attempts will let you know what to avoid while on your journeys. You will also find that the angle that you make these approaches is also helpful in avoiding a situation. Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your new endeavors. -
Yep! When you remove power from the power supply, the amplifier does go off.

Staying above 12 volts in most cases kindly eliminates a bad cell in one of the batteries, but a bad cable or corrosion on the terminal end (or ends) can cause the lower voltage or even a poor ground to the frame (chassis) can cause a lower voltage. The cable that crosses from positive to negative could be either corroded or even too small to properly carry current from battery to battery. There are many scenarios that may or may not be a factor. You stated that you checked the battery terminals and the reading went from 12.04 to 12.41 on that bank, so there is progress there, maybe recharge then recheck, if no better, then look for more terminal corrosion, and check the copper wires right where the terminals are connected for that green colored corrosion, if this has occurred, then the cable needs to be replaced.

Blake has already stated to use a fused wire for testing, I was only adding that the jump starters work great for testing. Fused wires can be obtained at most auto parts stores and most hardware stores. Happy holidays to all.

Those small jump start units work great for this, use them very often.
