  1. I presumed that they checked the voltage while under load.
  2. I would replace all the wires and make sure to use fine stranded wire which will is much more flexible and resist breaking. Cover the harness with "snake skin".
  3. On my Farberware when it is set to keep warm the temp is 138-140.
  4. Back in the 70's, when Dodge 440-3 was the most popular engine I designed a twin turbo, electronic fuel injection for my 30 ft Sportscoach. I could go up any hill with the cars but my millage was terrible.
  5. Does the bed have to be adjustable or can it be in a fixed position?
  6. I have an Atwood that is 23 years old with 185,000 miles and still works. I added a hot rod about 15 years ago.
  7. Been using portable induction cook tops in the motorhome for a number of years. Use it when plugged in or on the generator. When compared to a regular electric cook top, it uses 1/2 the current and boils water in half the time. At home we have a 4 burner induction range made by Samsung. Our first one for the motorhome was a Burton. Got it about 8 years ago and finally gave it to our youngest son. Now we are using a Farberware from Walmart for $50.
  8. Your welcome, I've been doing it that way for several years when I had a problem.
  9. Its made by Roadmaster, saw it Sunday at Quartzite in the big tent.
  10. My problem was in the plumbing so I filled the water hose with the hp and run it through the coach not the tank, and let it sit. If you have a problem with the water tank just dump it and put a pt or so and about 10 gallons of fresh water and drive around then fill the tank.
  11. Use hydrogen peroxide instead of bleach. Does a better job and you don't have to do any flushing. Pour a pint into the water fill hose and run it until the treated water goes to the furthest faucet. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then just use as normal.
  12. The last time I checked Kwikee and Lippert were 2 different companies. Being in the marine business in Seattle, broken ss bolts in aluminum was an everyday occurrence. I would drill as close to center to the correct size to tap out to the finish size. If I screwed up the threads I would drill oversize and insert a Heli-coil. If you need a replacement motor for Kwikee a Ford 90 LTD drivers window is the replacement for about $40 at the local auto parts store.
  13. Check to see if both tanks have a 3 inch outlet. If they do then just re plumb the ABS pipe.
  14. I would go with a inverter/charger. The charger is a 3 stage which is smart.
  15. The smart charger should float charge the batteries and not allow the water to boil out. I would still check the levels every so often. When I had wet cells I had the watering system which had the level gauge on each cap so it was easy to check the levels.
  16. I would not consider a combined unit because if one failed you would have to replace both.
  17. When I had my coach painted I was offered the 3m shield. The cost was $1250 so I asked how much the repaint the front and was quoted $800. Its been 3 years and over 22000 miles and it still looks good enough that I don't need a repaint.
  18. I would go with Roadmaster. All of their parts for the tow bar are made by them in house. I've toured the factory and seen the parts being machined and assembled. Some of the other manufacturers have parts made off shore and then assembled in their factories. Roadmaster does free inspections at the major rallies.
  19. I like all the features that Tire Minder has. Buy before the end of the year and get a digital tire gauge free according to their ad in the Dec FMCA magazine.
  20. The one thing I noticed when traveling on flat level road with no wind, when the microwave is turned on the mpg drops 1/4 mpg. Usually the microwave is only on for a minute or two. We have used the crock pot for several hours without problem. I think the key is to have a large enough alternator. We have a 10 cu ft residential fridge. Once I had a problem with the dash heat and used a 1500 watt electric quartz heater running off the inverter for 1400 miles in the middle of winter.
  21. The rating of an alternator is at the max output and not continuous output which is roughly one half the max rating. When I installed my ISB Cummins into my coach the stock alt was a Delco about the size of an automotive one. It was 160 amp rated which was the highest for that frame size. I had 6 6 volt and 2 group 31 12 volt batteries and I burned up 2 alternators. I went to the next larger frame size Delco and had it built to 245 amps and it has been charging as it should for 13 years and over 100k miles. We use the microwave on the inverter while going down the road without any problems.
  22. Sealand makes a tool, its like a tongue depressor but made out of plastic and it is rough on one side. Works pretty good most of the time.
  23. I have changed seals on several different toilets and I never touched the valve assembly. All I did is loosen the big "hose" clamp, take the 2 plastic clamping pieces, lift the bowl off and replace the gasket and seal. Total time to do the job is less than 10 minutes.
  24. I still flip the breaker before I plug or unplug out of habit. What Tom says is correct that no current draw is present until the surge protector closes, which on mine is about 3 minutes so technically it is not necessary to turn the breaker off when plugging in. Breakers are not designed to be used as switches and it shortens the life of the breaker. I was told this by several different electricians.
