Residential Fridge Vs Rock&Rolls & Rough Roads
rossboyer replied to chp007kd40's topic in Type A motorhomes
I have used a Samsung RF197 for 3 years on modified sinewave inverter and did not increase battery bank of 4-6 volt batteries. We don't usually boondock, but have stopped overnight at a Walmart a few times. We run the generator in the evening, but shut it down about 10 or 11 pm. I do turn off the ice maker. My only other load is a CPAP machine all night long. We have never had a problem. Rough roads, not a problem, just turn off ice maker to prevent water splashing out and freezing a big block in your ice bin. Also, the frig you select may have door heaters to reduce humidity, turn that option off, too. The heaters will use more power overnight than the frig cooling. -
I am sure that prices have gone up since we replaced ours, but check on an Allison "factory rebuilt" transmission. I found they were less expensive and had a 36K mile warranty where a local shop rebuilt only had 90 days or 3K miles.

I have used the Roadmaster plastic rock shield for about 6 years. It does work well, but still some chips still do occur. I have the optional storage rack to hold the rock shield when I am not towing. I tried the web shield that lays flat over the tow bar and found that to be not very effective. A friend of mine has the bra and has had very good success. The only problem I see is that it is a large item to store when you are not towing.

Also, for the inside dual. there is a rubber plug installed on the outer wheel that will support the inside dual valve stem. I think the Alcoa web site has them listed for their wheels.

We are just west of Phoenix, for 5 years we have gone home Thanksgiving through New Years. We do not leave the heat on, but do have a reflector 50 watt light bulb in the water bay and I put up all the hoses. While it may frost, we have not had a problem.

The Hoosier Cruiser Chapter would welcome you. We have 6 to 7 rallies a year, April through October traveling from the south to the north and back south to follow the weather in Indiana. The Hoosier Cruisers in central Indiana will be meeting on December 1, at Golden Coral in Anderson at 2:30 for a late lunch or early dinner. Golden Coral is located on the southwest corner of the Exit 226 of I-69 and Hwy 109. You would be welcomed to join us.

Also, I think that the transmission has a constant load to maintain it's computer. Depending on your chassis, the fuse for the transmission may be mounted in a separate fuse holder. I think you have a Magnum chassis. I had a 1999 Renegade with a Magnum chassis, but I have not had it since 2008 and do not remember where that fuse is located. Possibly it is under the dash below the radio. Wish I could help you more.

Using Delorme Street Atlas: You set your start and stop points, and it will provide a route based on your setup of what kind of roads, toll or no toll roads, etc. You can then set stop locations or insert via routes. At anytime you can change the start or stop locations. It will calculate fuel stops and overnight stops for you base on the settings you prefer. I use 6.7 mpg and fill at 1/4 remaining. Over night set at 450 miles. I even select the restaurant I will used that evening for dinner. After driving all day, I enjoy going to a restaurant. Delorme is extremely variable to suit you. Your laptop will need an USB port to plug in the GPS that is supplied with the full package. When and if you want an update, which is usually yearly, is about $39.00 on DVD/CD.

I use Delorme Street Atlas 2015 which I have used previous versions fro about 8 years. I like being able to plan my route in my easy chair at home and use the laptop on the dash when we travel. As with all software there is a learning curve. Another feature I like is being able to select places I want to see on my trip even if that is not along the most direct route.

Trace Engineering Inverter (Xantrex) Not Inverting
rossboyer replied to Wheelsnkeels's topic in Electrical
Since you are in Indiana, why not take it to the Xanterx repair in Elkhart, IN. Call first and get a repair order number. They will tell you to ship it back to the state of Washington, but with the number you can walk in with the inverter to the Elkhart repair facility, and they will accept it. Without the number, they will not accept. When I took mine in, I was told it would take a couple of days. Got a call the next morning, repaired, and I went back and picked up. A fan and module were bad. I think the charge was less than $100.00. The address is 541 Roske Drive, Suite A, Elkhart. IN 46516, just west of CR 17.. The company main phone number 800-446-6180 and the Elkhart number is 574-294-5858. Otis was the tech that worked on mine.- 9 replies

Carefree Awning Pull Tag Rolled Up In Awning...Help Please
rossboyer replied to greyhounds4me's topic in General Discussion
You will need to just unroll the awing until the strap can be reached and then pull it all the way out. Suggest you order a longer strap or add a loop of nylon cord to lengthen a few inches. When I was attending a large rally where they were present, they replaced at no charge. -
I use two 6 ton jack stands for the front and two 10 ton for the rear. But I never raise the rear tires off the ground. To do so could allow the coach to roll because the brake is only on the rear wheels. And I don't use all four at one time.

Welcome back. This a question that you will need to call Membership Services at FMCA. 800-543-3622 or 513-474-3622 about. You will be able to renew his membership with the same number. I don't think the online system will allow an expired membership to renew, but you will be able to via the phone. $40 for a year. 5 years for $160 or one free year. I would do the 5 years. If you later find that you need to cancel, FMCA will refund and full unused years if you notify them. In the future if you have a motor home of your own, you will be able to register with the same number with a 'S' added for son. I don't know about any 'special' benefit for a 'L' membership other than being recognition status. There are a lot of benefits included with an FMCA membership. One of the important ones is FMCAssist medical evacuation insurance. There are more and you can read about them all on FMCA.com under the Benefits tab.

There should be a 30 amp breaker in your shore power panel that feeds the inverter. Check to see that has not tripped. I would turn it off and back on. Also, are you sure that the shore power is getting into the power panel? You may have to take the cover off and check with a meter, but don't do it unless you are comfortable with diagnosing power panels.

Why not wait until you see this condition occurring, turn off the refrigerator and see it the condition stops. You might also check to see if you have a water heater electric element and turn it off, also.

FMCA Replacement Windshield Program, Please
rossboyer replied to whiteeagle's topic in Membership/Benefits
For our three motorhomes, we have had 4 windshields replaced by Duncan Systems. One failed about 6 weeks after installation. Duncan replaced it at no charge. We have always been very satisfied with Duncan's service and quality. -
In our Expedition, the panel is above the windshield on the passenger side where the jacks, power on/off, water heater, and inverter controls are located.

Look in the rear outside bins for a small fuse panel. If it is a rear diesel, you may have two small fuse panels. The second one would be for the transmission.

1) Most sites are not angled, but should be. If you plan ahead, you can Google Earth to look at the site to see if you think it will work for you. 2) No, but older parks are usually narrower than the newer ones. National and State parks are usually tight on sites. We have found some that the sites were 60-80 feet long and the same between sites. There just isn't a standard. FMCA rallies try to have enough room to park your towed auto between your coach and the next one. 3) You will find good information in all areas of the FMCA forums. You just may not know when you need the information.

We have towed ours for 48,000 + miles with no problem; but based on your description, I would have the alignment checked.

One winter we did not have fresh water in the tank, but used gallon milk jugs for the toilet. We did have a heavy duty 40 watt light bulb in reflector that clamped on. Some call them utility lamps. The temperature range was 11 to 14 degrees F outside. We have a outdoor wireless thermometer in the water bay. We held 34 F or above. Our valves did not freeze and we did not use any antifreeze.
