  1. Either US 26 or 89 going south out of Jackson will get you there. We have used both. Not interstate, but good roads. Forgot to mention, take a float trip in the Tetons. Choose the last one on the day you want to go, more wildlife to see. This is not whitewater, but an easy drift down stream with a guide piloting the float the whole trip. We have taken a trip three times, two on the north end and one on the south. You can get a card of the details from one of the "What to See and Do" racks.
  2. Not all VISA cards do this. Which supplier of your card does this?
  3. We like Colter Bay Campground with full hook ups which is just into the Tetons north end. From there you can travel day trips in your auto to the north end of Yellowstone or south end of Tetons. If you like western music, there is one of the FLYING ? western dinner and music ranches. Glacier's Going to the Sun Road across usually isn't open until about July 1st. I don't think you can take the motor home across, but if you don't want to drive your auto, they have vintage tour busses to make the trip across and back. If you are there when the whole road isn't open you can drive part way and turn around. We like the east side best due to scenery. The west side is more of a tourist trap, my opinion. Since you will be in Denver, you might consider stopping for a few days at Rocky Mountain NP in Estes Park, CO. Drive across and back in you auto to see all the scenery. Fall River Road, gravel, usually opens about July 4th and return to Estes Park via Trail Ridge Road, paved, which should be open.
  4. Call FMCA at 1-800-543-3622 or 1-513-474-3622 and ask for Doug Uhlenbrock. Tell him that you want to volunteer, and he will probably direct you to the Volunteer Coordinator in the Mid-West Area, the host area. Or if you are already registered or want to register, Doug can help by adding your volunteer choice to your registration information. Doug's direct number is 1-513-388-5276. Probably anyone that might answer his number can help you, also.
  5. If you have been a member of the military or will make a small donation to 1 of 2 military charities, you can join the Pentagon Federal Credit Union. They have several different credit cards you can receive. Ours is called the Cash Rewards VISA Platinum and gives 5%, not 5 cents, credit for all fuel purchases where you pay at the pump. We have used it at Flying J's, Walmart, Sam's Club, and several others. If you go inside and pay, you will not get the 5% back, only 1%. All other purchases, you receive 1% back. You do not have to apply for the credit, it is taken off your bill each month. We saved over $200 last year.
  6. We have traveled 90,000 + miles in our 2006 Fleetwood Expedition with a 300HP Cat C-7 engine. Usually we travel interstates because of the long distances on our trips cross country. We tow a Chevrolet Equinox everywhere and travel about 67 mph. Local highways 57 mph to keep in 6th gear in Economy Mode. Our average is 6.7 mpg.
  7. If you install the second air conditioner, you may find it to be a lot less expensive to wire a separate 20 amp cord with a protection breaker to just handle the air conditioner when you need it. A lot depends on if you are able to access just the one circuit to the second air conditioner in you coach..
  8. Just a correction. FMCAssist is a free benefit of FMCA for medical evacuation and will return your motor home if needed. FMCA Roadside Assistance is discounted to FMCA members, but you need to pay for it. FMCA Roadside Assistance is primarily used for troubles on the road with your motor home. One feature is winching service, now that is not recovery service to lift your motor home out of a ravine; but maybe you are in a campground parked on grass and due to rain, you are stuck, FMCA Roadside Assistance will tow your motor home out as long as the tow truck would not also get stuck. Many campgrounds have gravel roadways and several other roadside assistance services will not winch you out if the tow truck is not on pavement. I currently do not have FMCA Roadside Assistance, but when my current contract runs out, I will.
  9. I took a Motor Home driving course a few years ago, and one statement the instructor made was that 1 out of 5 motor homes that have ever towed a vehicle has had a breakaway. I use the SMI Air Force One breaking system, and I had a breakaway. Before that I did have one of the units that you had to install between the drivers seat and the brake pedal. It actuated the brakes and caused both front brakes to seize. Had to replace both disks and the calipers. I really like the Air Force One and would not be without it.
  10. We can easily get out the sliding window I referenced in my post. It just isn't the one over the headboard.
  11. I have used Balance Masters on the front tires/wheels of our current and previous coach. They are rings that mount behind the wheel, and the outer edge of the ring has a tube that contains mercury, I think. As the wheel turns, the fluid moves to the opposite side from the out of balance position. They really have taken the vibration out of the wheels. I have not found the need to have them installed on the rear wheels on either coach.
  12. My emergency escape window is behind the headboard. There is no way that we can get out that window. I know the reasoning is that the escape has to be on the opposite side of the coach from the door, but the only bedroom window we can get out is a sliding window at the foot of the bed on the same side of the coach as the door. That window is wider and the sill is closer to the ground. We would have to use that window.
  13. I reported an issue in that when there are more than one pages of View New content that when selecting the second page, nothing is shown. That was fixed last week, but now today, when View New Content is selected, nothing shows. I went back and selected anything in the past 24 hours and there were numerous postings that I had now read, and I had not been in the Forums earlier today.
  14. Try Happy Trails RV Resort in Surprise, AZ. Happy Trails is located at 17200 W Bell RD with 2,000 sites and numerous amenities. Surprise is northwest out of Phoenix on US60. You can not tell where Phoenix, Sun City, Sun City West and Surprise begin and end. Rates vary based on the amenities on the lot. IE: Building with or without washer and dryer, golf cart, part or all the lot covered, renting via a reality company or private individual. Depending on what month you want, you may not need to have a covered lot. We face west on our lot. We never put out the awning, October through April.
  15. I have used in the past the Sam's Club Energizer batteries. They lasted 4 or 5 years, but did use a lot of distilled water. I now have a Lifetime Sealed Glass Mat battery for the past 2 years. We have a residential refrigerator that will work when stopped overnight while traveling 1820 miles in 4 days. The other 2 nights, we have hookups. Our inverter is a 3000 watt modified sine wave.
  16. I have called the FMCA Travel Assist provider to ask questions about their service: 1) Do they offer a multi-year discount? Not at this time, but they are considering it. 2) Winching, what does this mean? If I am in a campground and the roadway in front of the camp site is crushed stone, will they cover this? Yes, but this is not a recovery service. If your vehicle is over the embankment, it isn't covered. They will also cover winching if you are at an FMCA rally and need to be towed out. 3) Does the one fee cover all the vehicles? Yes, but only the ones listed by Vin number on the application up to 4. 4) If I borrow a vehicle, is it covered? No, only the ones listed on the application. 5) Can I sign up to be started on a specific date? No, the effective date is the date of application, and they suggested that I apply about 3 to 4 days before the termination of my current provider. They are about $20 per year less than Coach-Net service that I have had for several years. I have been satisfied with Coach-Net, but in March I am going to switch.
  17. The pump is not used in the City Water position. What we are talking about is that if the pump or check valve is not sealing correctly, water will backflow from the City Water connection through the pump into the fresh water tank. It is just a small maintenance problem that can occur.
  18. Possibly the pump is allowing city water to backflow through it. The pump may need to be rebuilt or dirt (sand) could be causing the leakage. Suggest that you remove pump, disassemble and clean parts. Put the pump back together and test. Rebuild kits are available for most pumps. Check online for your particular manufacturer and model number of your pump.
  19. I had a portable system that locked on and burned the front rotors and calipers. I now have the Air Force One and have been very satisfied for about 50,000 miles of towing.
  20. I did 5 dome lights and two 18" double tube florescent ceiling lights for about $25.00 and have Parts left to do more.
  21. Difficult to answer, but when you get a chance, remove the light and test the wires with a meter. When you say switch, I assume you mean a wall switch. The switch may be intermittent. If it comes down to replacing the light fixture and you are electrical knowledgeable, consider replacing the bulbs with LEDS. If the fixture is fluorescent, I used 4 strips of LEDs to replace the two bulbs. Doing a search for LED strips will provide to you many solutions. I think mine was a 15 foot roll that was easily cut into 12 inch strips. The web site where I ordered the LED roll had connectors to make the installation easier. One note though, the red wire was negative and the black wire was positive, just reverse of what I expected. If the fixture is incandescent, I used an 8x8 LED panel which gave more light than the bulb.
  22. They are included in your membership. The membership "Goose Eggs" will have your membership number on them. That number is yours forever. If you want to ladder mount a tag, your will need to purchase the mounts.
  23. Currently the FMCA Store is down for upgrade, but there are 3 books that they sell that are quite good general maintenance manuals. I am not near my coach to give you the item numbers, but you can call FMCA and they can tell you.
  24. I have run my Samsung on a Xantrex MSW inverter for over a year. Why not try it. Worse case is in a few years the compressor goes bad. The expense to replace that should be a lot less than the price of a TSW inverter. I bet you will not have a problem. I am using one 8D 12 volt battery. I replaced the 4 six volt batteries 2 years ago. I have run on the inverter over night. Other than a couple of LED night lights, the refrigerator and my CPAP machine were the only loads. Also, I have stayed over night in some Walmarts without the inverter on. Night time temp in the low 60's. The refrigerator temp went up 4 degrees from 38 to 42. You will find that unless you boondock for more than 1 night, you will not have any problems. My microwave was on the second inverter circuit and the wire was routed behind the refrigerator. I installed a 2 pole double throw switch in the cabinet above the microwave that will cross over the inverter circuit to the refrigerator or to the microwave. When either is on the inverter the other is on shore power. My default position is for the refrigerator to be on the inverter. Should I need the microwave to fix lunch while traveling, I just place the microwave on the inverter and when done switch back to the refrigerator. I found the switch at Home Depot. Don't remember the price, but less than $20.00.
  25. Additionally, I use Gel Coat a product used by many fiberglass boat manufacturers for the final polish.
