  1. We started in a tent, then a pop up camper, then a hard side trailer, and we are on our third motorhome. The pop up was the best for being in the outdoors camping; but as we got older, the motorhome is the way we enjoy our travels now. Try Arizona, too. We have a home in Indiana, but winter in Surprise, AZ.
  2. Yes, we do it all the time when we only have 30 amp outlet available. Ours is permanently mounted in the motorhome.
  3. Is the ding ding alarm sounding? If it is, you are low on fluid. If not, I would look for a plug that has been disconnected or is loose at the pump.
  4. Many RV outlets do not have a wiring box. The wire is laid in the outlet and a back is snapped on to force pins in the outlet to make connection. If you have the room to install an outlet box, I would do it. You will be able to use a better quality duplex outlet from one of the big box stores. I like to use the ones that have screw-down clamps to attach the wires vs. the push the wire in type.
  5. There is a ham radio chapter you might have common interest.
  6. Hello Mike: Clay's reply is very accurate. Additionally, the transmission places a continuous drain on the chassis battery. The battery disconnect switches should eliminate any battery loads. But on many coaches, the steps are before the battery disconnect switches (relays).
  7. The cap sensors for the towed car can also be damaged by a car wash to the tune of $170 each plus a flat time on your way out if you have a built in TPMS on your car. I remove the caps when back home or staying for a long time at one location.
  8. There are many sights to see across this country and Canada. Enjoy as many as you possibly can as you travel.

    Jack Pads

I make my own out of treated 2 by lumber and treated 3/4 plywood that is glued and screwed together to make the height and foot print that I want. Typically I use one layer of plywood, one layer of 2 by lumber and another layer of plywood. Total height is almost 3 inches. This is enough to not warp on wet ground with the weight of the coach on them. Whatever you do just be sure to not use too much height to raise the rear wheels off the ground. If you do, the coach can roll which will damage the jacks usually beyond repair.
  10. We have Henderson's "Flow Control" valves on our air bags, 4 of them. They come in different flow rates. Our first set had to much flow for all 4. Henderson moved the smaller set from the front to the rear and installed even smaller on the front. They over night shipped them to the South Central rally and installed them the next day. No service or shipping charges. All work well and have for 5 years. I would recommend working with Henderson for any of their products.
  11. Not sure how far the wires are burned, but you can buy male and female end caps at most big box stores or camping world.
  12. I use one of the 12 volt light testers that has a pointed probe on one end ,and a wire with a clip on it for ground on the other end. You may have to have the ignition on or in accessory to get all the fuses to have power. If the power is on to the fuses, there are two metal test points on the top of the fuses. The light should light on both test points. If it does not light on one side, the fuse is bad. I find this method a lot easier than pulling one fuse at a time. The cost for a test light is about $4.00 at Harbor Freight. I think you can find them at most automotive parts stores, too.
  13. Remember that FMCA has a campground at 3590 Roundbottom Road, Cincinnati, OH, 45244. A member may stay two nights a month without charge. 15 sites are full hookup 30/50 amp. About 10 more sites have 50 amp no other hookups, but the is a water fill station and a dump station.
  14. Anderson, about 25 miles from you.
  15. Each site may have restrictions. Not sure about other smart phones, but there is an APP for iPhones. You can request a printed directory. Many sites are older Mom & Pop campgrounds with 30 amp. Some have been upgraded. We have had a membership for over 10 years and have used it enough to more than pay for the yearly dues. We did belong to two other membership campground programs. Of all the campground memberships out there, Passport America has been the best we have used.
  16. I second RVCams. Having replace 3 Weldex monitors, they are notorious for heat failures. There is not a direct replacement from another manufacturer, but you can run a new cable from the camera to a new monitor that is another brand. RVCams will help you decided. The newer digital Weldex color displays are supposed to be better than the older model displays.
  17. Try this link. I could not get the one above to work. http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/5/prweb10740674.htm
  18. Many of the items you state about area rallys or national conventions are true, but have you looked at chapters? I don't know where you are located, but I am sure that there are FMCA Chapters near you. Go to FMCA.com, Select the Chapter/Area Tab, choose either Chapter Search or Chapters by Area. Look at several some may be close to you or have a special interest that you have in common. There is a Chapter Rally Calendar to look through, too. Most chapters will accept guest visitors, but may require advance registration. Visit several to find the best fit for you. Depending on the location or facilities at their rally, campfires may be allowed. Even if they are not, you will find the that the socialization will be much closer than at the larger rallies. I am willing to help you if you need it. Safe travels
  19. Go to FMCA.com and select the Join FMCA tab and select Member Benefits then select the Connections on the list. Mechelin will show. Within that information there will be a link to the Mechelin web site. Do a search for dealers that will honor the FMCA discount. Not all locations that sell Mechelin tires are Mechelin dealers. Call or go to the dealer to order your tires. I would let them know that you will not accept tires older than 10 to 13 weeks before the date of installation.

    An Old Goose Egg

When you join, you will be sent your membership cards and FMCA membership plate (goose egg).
  21. desertdeals69 is probably correct, but it sounds as though you have lost a ground someplace. Rewiring will probably be best. I think my pump is wired with #12 wire which is a standard big box store item. Just be sure to get stranded wire.
  22. I have asked for and received no older than 3 months, actually 13 weeks.
  23. We have Wheel Masters which has liquid in the rings. Over 200,000 miles and no problems. We only put them on the front wheels.
