  1. Like Medico, we looked at extended warranties, but for what they were asking, we could sure pay a lot of out of pocket expenses. We opted not to get one.
  2. verjay...you might want to start a new thread with your topic, you'll get a lot more responses.
  3. The bigger the coach, the heavier the coach the worse the mileage is going to be. At 42' or longer, you'll have to get a tag axle coach...more storage capacity, more weight. My coach is a model 40X which is actually 1/2" shy of 41'...it's as big as I can get without a tag. If you need or want lots of space, you'll need the bigger coach and the tag. If you don't need the storage or space, get a coach that is less than 42' and a single axle. We opted for the single axle...and have more space than we can fill.
  4. Send an email to Power Gear, they are very responsive.
  5. I needed some fiberglass work on a 5th wheel and found a boat repair facility to do it. Lots more fiberglass boats around than fiberglass RVs.
  6. I have a Power Gear leveling leveling system...it says to dump the air, then put out the jacks.
  7. If you have a totally enclosed underbelly, it will really be hard to find a very small leak. It might not even be leaking enough to drip on the ground.
  8. One advantage of the HH/AH is you can run them without burning propane or diesel.

    C8.3 UCS Fuel Filters

My manual says not to prefill them. Tried that...wouldn't start...prefilled both and did start. So now I prefill both, but do have a portable boat fuel filter I run the diesel fuel through prior to putting it in the two Cummins filters. So I'm prefiltering the fuel before it goes in the filters for the engine. That should be enough filtering.
  10. Going to have to differ on the mileage comment by ticat900... 80k is nothing on one of these big diesels. Just check to see that the normal maintenance has been accomplished.
  11. Passport has lots of restrictions, but if you stay a couple of nights a year it will pay for itself.
  12. I only stay at WM or a truck stop when travelling alone...D/W doesn't like to stay any place except a CG. For WMs, I always call ahead and ask if it is okay to park there. The only time they have said "no" was when there was a city ordinance against it, and one time when it was an old style WM with a small parking lot.
  13. Check the maintenance records for regular oil/filter changes, gen service, fuel filters, etc.
  14. I agree with desertdeals69, that's one reason we tow a Honda CRV.

    2005 Cummins ISL400

The ISL is 8.9L and a fine engine. It is good for several hundred thousand miles and will outlast you and your coach. I don't know anything about a recall, get the engine serial number and call Cummins.
  16. I would add to Brett's post the same comments, only how they pertain to the driver/owner and add his/her overall health, physical condition and ability.
  17. As I stated above most of us can run for a day without running the battery down or starting it. I bought that trickle charger I mentioned and will try it on consecutive tow days. I can see the fuse to pull (#34) but it's nearly impossible to get out.
  18. If in doubt put a couple of small space heaters down there and run the generator.
  19. You are getting lots of advice, much of which is slightly biased because the poster has the type MH he/she is praising. I'm not saying the units discussed are not good units, it's just that there are a great many very good RVs out there from different manufacturers. Don't fall in love with the first one and don't run out an buy one because somebody on here says it is wonderful. Good luck.
  20. KOA is our last choice in CGs. Most are considerably more expensive than other parks. Sure, some have more amenities, but most are way over priced.
  21. There is a dollar limit for USAA as to whether or not they will insure RVs and boats. I've had some of each they would insure (5th wheel) and would not insure (currrent MH).
  22. IMHO, our slide toppers are very poorly designed. They are horizontal so even when it rains they do not drain and puddle badly. After it rains (or snows), I climb on the roof and sweep off the water or snow so the toppers return to their normal position.
  23. I've been using USAA since I came back from VN in the late 60s. As stated, the service is excellent. My problem with Progressive is their CEO.
  24. Actually, the diesel burner is the primary method for heating...the electric element is secondary. However, I normally keep the electric element on all the time...and use the CG's electricity...and use the burner when it gets cold or we need more hot water.
  25. My manual says to put Propylene Glycol in the boiler, not normal engine antifreeze or RV antifreeze.
