Spartan Chassis, 2005 Newmar Kountry Star Sway Issue
hermanmullins replied to BSonthego's topic in Chassis
B Welcome to the Forum. Several question that might help you get some answers. Independent or solid front axle? Does the body sway back and forth or does it seem to road walk? It could be any thing from bad sway bar bushings to alignment. Post some more information and you will get some ideas. Good Luck. Herman -
Most ovens, Gas Electric, convection and Microwave will all have hot spots. When we use our oven for baking we will set the timer for half the cook time rotate the dish and finish cooking. This way the hot spot cover all and not just one spot. Hope this helps. We are going to have Dianne as our cooking moderator.

Since I can't get the afore mentioned bottle to the back batteries in my tray I had to go another direction. I got a two gallon pump sprayer. I took off the nozzle and fill the bottle with distilled water, pump up the pressure and I have all the water I need to top off my batteries. Besides I don't have to keep refilling the bottle. Works for me. Herman

dd69, We had an Amana in our home before our current Samsung. It preformed very well for a number of years however the one thing we noticed from the get go was the noise. It also ran quite a lot. We had it checked and were told that that was nornal. Hey, just my 2 cents. Merry Christmas to you and yours

BJ, Welcome to the FMCA and Forum. You will receive your plates (Goose Eggs) in the mail. It being Christmas Time it may take a little longer then normal. What area of the country do you live? The reason I ask is that when you join FMCA the office sends notification to all of the Chapters in your area. Some will notify you and invite you to come visit them at a Rally, sadly some won't. But be assured that if you are in the South Central Area, AR., LA. MO. KS. OK. or Texas you will get a letter from Lone Star. Our secretary is very good in sending invites to new FMCA Members. If you have any questions about chapter please don't hesitate to send me a personal message and I will happy to help. Merry Christmas Herman Mullins President Lone Star Chapter

Atwood Exterior Panel Takes Flight En Route
hermanmullins replied to andyshane's topic in Systems and Appliances
Andy, Did you have to replace the frames? I lost the cover on our first MH and my son found it on the road where it had come off. I was able to fix it, tire marks, and put it back on. When we lost one on our second coach I had to replace the cover but not the frame. I took another panel to my local auto painter and he matched the color on the new panel. I wonder why they put the panels on with the spring loaded tab. It must be to sell replacement panels. I can think of many better ways of securing the panels. On the subject of heat guns. I spoke with the owner of Extreme Grahics in Shawnee, OK at the Six-State Rally. James told me not to use a heat gun but to use steam. He said that a heat gun if held in one spot too long the heat will just continue to rise and could damage the paint surface. Where the most the steam will every get is 212 degrees and be around 200 when is hits the surface. Jame gave me the advice when I asked about removing the wonderful 3M Diamond Shield. Merry Christmas Herman -

Chassis Air Conditioner For Rexall Rexair 2003
hermanmullins replied to sueandskyhow@charter.net's topic in Chassis
Sue and sky, I don't know the Rexall Rexair units. Is it Gas or Diesel Pusher or FRED. We had a 454 gas unit that continued to throw the A/C belt. The last time I had to replace it I found that from the Factory the belt was in the wrong location on the shive (Harmonic Balancer on the crank shaft). This is my story and does not help you with your problem. Do I understand that you have had your compressor replaced several time? One of the problems with A/C units is that when the compressor goes, trash goes into the lines and Dryer. Lines must be purged and the Dryer replaced and a new compressor installed. System must then have a vacuum pulled on the unit and then refrigerant put in. You stated that the last time your unit lasted 20 minutes and burned up. This I don't understand. Did the unit just stop cooling? Did it ever cool after the repair? Did the clutch just stop turning? Did the compressor seize up and burn the belt? There are so many questions to be answered. By the way has the shop making the repairs stood behind their work or do they just discover and new problem each time? Let us know some of these answers and maybe we can find some help out there. Good Luck and Merry Christmas. Herman -
Motorhome Insurance Feedback - GMAC, Geico
hermanmullins replied to mikendar's topic in RV Insurance
We had GMAC from 2001 until last year. We had it through Good Sams. When I checked on it through FMCA it was a slight bit higher. I understand, FMCA didn't have a history with GMAC yet. Last year I got a quote from my local Kemper agent. What to my suprise and wondering eyes was a price for 1 yaer that I had paid for 6 months with GMAC. It was just over $2,000.00 for the Motor Home, My truck, and the wife's car for 1 year. Please don't take me wrong, GMAC handle every issue I had very well. But in the end (retirement) we had to go with the dollars. Herman -
Come on guys. Why would you want to interupt the peace and quite of driving on the open hwy. with headsets or cell phones.

1992 Safari Serengeti-- Fresh Water Tank Drain?
hermanmullins replied to russian's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
Paul, Welcome to the Forum and to the wonderful Life of RVing. Locate your fresh water tank. There should be a flex or Pec tube coming out near the lower part of the tank. This line should run to the pump. In that line there can be a shut off valve and sometimes your drain which would also have a shut off. If there doesn't appear to be a drain in that line, look under your coach in the area under the tank and look for a piece of tubing coming through the floor. Check where the tube comes from and that should lead you to the drain. Now if all else fails, Close the valve between the tank and pump, Turn off the Pump. Remove the line coming out of the pump and hook up a hose to the pump that can reach out side of the coach. Then open the valve and the water can drain out. You came speed up the process by turning on the pump and it will pump out the water. When through just reverse the process. Herman -
Misty, Welcome to the Forum. Check the Radio and see if the Fader is set to the rear and not balance in between. Herman

Larry, did it leak when you had the slide in? If not then I would have pulled the slide in until it stopped raining and then look for the source of the leak. Herman
-
JT, Heres what I would do. I have 50 amp power cable for my coach and therefore I would plug into the 50 amp plug. I would then go to the GCs office and ask, "What is the 60 amp plug for?".

Best Satellite To Use For A Class A Motorhome
hermanmullins replied to r111rt's topic in Electronics
This will only work on Dish if you have a multi LND Dish. I believe that Direct standard receiver works off a single satellite while Disk 311 receiver used 110 and 119 satellites. If you do not have a Satellite on your roof now it would be in your best interest to go with a multi LNB dish and be able to go as high as HD TV when you want. At present time I use the receiver from our farm and move it into the coach when we go out. On Dish I have to run the Switch Test and every thing works fine. -
kyoldguy, Are you sure your tires are 285/80 16? I would think they might be 285/60 19. 10 years is a long time for tires of any kind. "BE SAFE, REPLACE" Herman

pmarth, Had good looking tires on my coach. Side walls looked great. loads of tread. However when I had them changed (due to age), I found large dry rot cracks all around each tire between all treads. Be Safe not Sorry, Make a deal with the dealer to replace all tires. Herman

Fighting The Chinese Menace... Where Rubber Meets Road
hermanmullins replied to andyshane's topic in Tires
Andy, you are correct about alignment. However the only thing that can be aligned on a dolly would be the toe-in, But the toe-in has to be correct or the dolly will try to wander and cause excess tire wear. Herman -
Yes Bill it was a work of art, like a Chinese fire drill. The truck was a one ton. On the front was a post wit a ball that the trailer hitch locked into. The pontoons rested on two carpeted rails on each side and the boat was secured with straps. I towed two pontoons on pontoon trailers end to end. Each had a pontoon mounted on top of them. I had a special wiring harness that was operated from the dash with a switch for the running lights and the brake lights and turn signals were connected to the trucks harness. The reason for the separate line for the running lights was that there was too much draw on the head light switch and burned several out before I found the problem. Also since I was running through Arkansas at night and there were several weight station on the Interstate I would switch off the trailer lights as I passed ans then turned them back on when i was clear.
-
Bill, this can be done however you have to have a frame made for the truck. As I said before, one ton crew cab duelie. Frame is mounted on the back of the bed supports in the front of the bed and supports off the front bumper. It can be narrow where the pontoon sits down over the frame or have rails that the pontoons rest in. Either way it isn't for the weekender. When I had this setup I hauled 5 boats. two pontoon in tandum. each with a pontoon or V bottom on top of each and a pontoon or V bottom on top of the truck. A 14 foot pontoon on top of a 1/2 ton PU is just asking for trouble.
-
I moved boats for years and it took a one ton, crew cab dually. How are you going to load and unload it? We had to use a lift to both load and unload. I would be very concerned about you toad being top heavy and not being able to control the possible sway. Most states have a 65 foot length limit check to see if you could pull a double. 33 foot coach, 20 foot tow vehicle and a 14 foot boat plus tow bar and tongueand you are somewhere around 70 feet. Might I suggest that when you want to take the Pontoon boat to have the DW drive the tow vehicle and pull the boat and you drive the coach. Herman
