Feedback On Using A Tow Dolly
wildebill308 replied to bobandwendy1972's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
I used a Acme for a couple of years and it worked well after I learned how to get the straps tight. but that is the problem with all dollies. I was just looking and they show new style ramps that look better. Hear is my method of tightening the straps. Once I started doing it this way I never had a strap came loose. When you load the car on the dolly stop with about 2 in between the tire and front stop. Place the hold down straps over the tires. Now place the car in neutral. Now tighten the hold down straps. The reason for doing it this way is the straps will not slide on the tire. This allows the tire to rotate forward and take the slack out of the back side of the strap. After the straps are tight you can put the car in park and set it up for towing. Make shure you set the car up based on the dolly manufacturer's instructions. Some need the steering locked and some like the acme need the steering to turn. Not doing this part right will cause damage to your car. One outher thing is be aware the dolly tracks outside the track of your Coach. You need to be aware when turning corners or just going down the road. Your coach might be in the smooth travel lane but the dolly might be off the right edge running on the rumble strip or hitting the lane markers. Watch your mirrors and you can get the hang of it pretty easy. Any questions let me know. Bill -
Nice coach. Bill

I noticed the discounts are not on a % basis. I got a better price break when I bought tires for my CR-V than the price savings quoted on 255-80 22.5. I would look at the Continental program. Bill

Here is a link to a map you might like. When you get to the website scroll down as there are several and a virtual tour. Following the SF trail isn't as easy as route 66 as it varied from trip to trip and during the season based on water availability. https://www.nps.gov/safe/planyourvisit/maps.htm Have fun. Bill

Road From Gettysburg, PA To Columbus, OH
wildebill308 replied to neilcarol's question in Destinations/Attractions
I don't see a problem. It is a main road and everything in that part of the world has hills and curves. Stay on main roads and you should have no problems. Bill -
Welcome to the forum. What size air conditioners do you have? Make sure your filters are clean. Like others have said, park in shade, keep shades down and limit how much you go in and out. (good luck with that having kids) The major problem adding a AC is having the electrical capacity to support it. Bill

Allowing Towables Vote At Indianapolis In July
wildebill308 replied to jeff753's topic in FMCA Feedback
Interesting that this is not promoted and I had not heard of it. I use a simple business card with the FMCA web address on the back. I don't see any tow behind people lining up to join. What is in it for them? Bill -

I tend to agree. We have not worked effectively to promote the club. Like I said before something as simple as rewarding members for recruiting new members would surprise you. You recruit 3 you get a free rally, 5 members you get 50% off your annual dues 10 new members you get a free year. Something as simple as challenging each member to recruit 1 new member during the year. If just 50% did this it would mean 35,000 new members in a year. FMCA could have some recruiting tools available for chapters and clubs to hand out. What was the growth last year? Last Summer we stopped at the Amana Colonies RV Park & Event Center. There was a big FMCA rally going on while we were there. I thought I would see if anyone tried to recruit me. I walked the dog around the whole area several times and just strolled buy. Only a couple people spoke to me. NO ONE mentioned what they were doing there or anything about FMCA. Bill -
Where Is The Auto Reset Circuit Breaker: Converter To Battery
wildebill308 replied to Thoma's topic in Electrical
Welcome to the forum. I don't know on your coach but someone will be by that knows. What leads you to think it has a Auto Reset Circuit Breaker on the charging circuit? Have you used a meter to check the circuit? Bill -
RV Parking at Wall Drug, Wall, SD
wildebill308 replied to prndl's question in Destinations/Attractions
Welcome to the forum. The last time I was up that way we stayed at Heartland RV Park & Cabins, 24743 SD-79, Hermosa, SD 57744, heartlandcampground.com, (605) 255-5460 This was a good location as a base camp to drive my toad into the park. I would caution about driving your coach on into Mount Rushmore on 16A. Look at it on Google maps and you will get an idea also I believe that is the road with the small tunnels. We were lucky to get a place as it was the week Sturgis was cranking up. Keep this in mind as you plan to be in the area. August 4th-13th 2017 = BIKE WEEK http://sturgismotorcyclerally.com/ Bill -
Rick, what is scary is they don't know and have to look into it. Bill

So this is like Walmart parking? Bill -
I remember that trip. On one section the wind was blowing so hard as a head wind the coach would downshift to 5th on its own. I would love to have a trip across Texas and NM where I wasn't running into hurricane force wind. We waited out a bad storm in Amarillo the 29th and 30th because of the winds were gusting over 80 mph and the blowing snow reduced visibility to near 0. Back to the Op's comment on milage. Brett what is his rpm for peak torque? I would run at or just over for the best mileage. Bill

Just the nay sayers. Bill -
We defer to Brett's knowledge of all things Cat. Not adding till at or below the bottom mark will also help see if it is blowing it out because of a incorrectly marked/calibrated dip stick. Your mileage doesn't sound that bad. The faster you go the more fuel it takes. Bill

The only caution is to watch where you are in the lane as the dolly will track outside the track of the coach. You can be in the nice smooth lane and the dolly is running on the rumble strip. You also need to be aware when turning as the same applies. I saw a guy drag his car and dolly through a ditch because he turned to close to the edge. Let me know if you have any questions. Bill

Try this. This is using Chrome. Go to your account, click on settings, then settings area, there you will find the box to enter your Signature content. Save it when you are done. Internet explorer looks different but it is basically the same. In settings find the “Signature” and add it there is a place to select View signatures I believe the default is on. When using Internet Explorer. In the top right hand of the page click on your name and you will get a dropdown list. Click on account settings. Under the heading “OVERVIEW” click on signature. This will open a place to enter what you want in your signature. Bill

I am with Jim, I like Buc-ee's and if you have never stopped at one it is kind of a surprise. The fuel prices are usually the lowest, Way more pumps than you can normally imaging at a fuel stop. The outher stick is LOTS of clean restrooms so no waiting. You do remember how it was traveling in a car? They make up for the gas prices by selling Buc-ee Balls in the convenience store. The New Braunfels gas center is the largest convenience store in the world at 68,000 square feet. Billl

Jim, tell them how many diesel and gas pumps there were at Buc-ee's. Finally got to fill up today after the trip last week. Kroger in Burleson Tx $2.099 I had some points so first 35 gal was $1.929., beats the Loves at exit 60 in Amarillo $2.649. Bill

If you can look a little further west there is some nice weather in the Flagstaff area. A couple years ago we were in Phoenix and it was HOT 112-114 the weather forecast the hi in Flagstaff 72 the next couple of days. We went to Flagstaff the next day. I would use RV Parkey to find a spot. Bill
