  1. Studebrucer. Welcome to the Forum! Depending upon how mechanical handy you are, a DP may not be the best fit. They will outlast a gas coach in most circumstances, but they cost more to buy and maintain. If your on a tight budget and you can't do most of the maintenance, like changing oil, filters, air dryers, hydraulic fluids, batteries etc. It's going to run you about a thousand + a year. Tires are bigger, therefore more expensive, Diesel cost as much or more than regular unleaded and miles per gallon is a lot less with a 36 foot DP vs a 36 foot gasser. DP's need to be driven more than gas. A DP older than 15 years is, or can, cost a bunch after you buy it...it depends on how the owner/owners before you drove it and maintained it...Low mileage on a DP is not what you want to see!
  2. As has been said over and over again...towables is not going to change any thing! I would love to hear from the EB and the past executives who started all of this, "What where/are you thinking"? Do we really have all those things your talking about? sip & paint, pop top lanyard, paint a tile, sock puppets? If not, then what funny farm do you work at?
  3. I would love to see how you "ride in a Harley"!
  4. Wish they would fix it, it's a lot better and shorter road going via Marfa...crazy Mexican drivers, other than that, OK. Took my Allegro Bus that way, then back almost to Marfa (cut thru a ranch to 118) then back to Lajitas...looong day!
  5. Like Brett. I'm totally confused. You plugged the coach into a designated 30A in garage or 10, 20A? I'm suspecting that you tripped a Circuit Breaker in house or coach. Have you checked? It could also be that your battery charger is set at more than 5A and tripping house CB when your Fridge kicks in along with something else that is on. In my old garage, I had a 20A outlet and it was fine for charging my batteries and running Fridge...as long as I remembered to adjust my charger to 5A, otherwise it would trip the garage CB. Now I'm on a designated 50A at the house.
  6. Jim S. Since I know a few who take their fifth all the way, I just thought, "well maybe Jim is rattled enough to take his coach, where I just take my Jeep"! Just saying....
  7. 10, 12 and probably split...big calf muscle in left leg!
  8. Childress. Welcome to the Forum! Tow it 4 down as Jim S. said. Other option is on a flat bed trailer....you'll save .50 cents in rubber, but spend $2,000 on trailer! It would be nice to know make and model of your coach.
  9. Great. That's the best way to meet other members! Like all organizations, you have the doers and the ones who don't. If more members would get involved, we would not have half the gripes about FMCA is not doing enough for young people....we need more volunteers! The "kids" get to the rallies, via the parents or grandparents and FMCA is not a kid sitting service so that the grown ups can go have fun...we are Family oriented as a whole! jimnorman. By law, your grownup at 18....you can do anything you want except drink a beer. You can even write the "blank check" to the Military! So, where does the statement about 20 year olds come in?
  10. 65 feet and your good to go, in 95% of the Country ! Also, no need to think about the trailer, until you get the coach...think 40 foot minimum...you don't want the tail to wag the dog!
  11. Robert. Nice to hear that your back to "somewhat" normal. No slides was the norm up until the mid 90's & 96" wide was the norm until 1987.
  12. Ouch ! More than I want to spend trying to look high end.
  13. Never been to FMCA Rally that had Wine tasting and Poker nights....must have missed that ! Sounds like fun! I think that on your next rally, you should take your kids and do some of the things your suggesting..
  14. I see all of you! and mine! I'm at a 2009 lap top, running Window 7 ! When I go to my 2016 Apple, your all gone...I figured it had something to do with Summer Vacation.
  15. Shriners do a lot of Parades and slow competition riding...we are the guys with the burgundy colored Fez and 22 children hospitals!
  16. Brett. There is a lot of "Snake Oil" out there. It's a large, heavy, rock and roll box on wheels, not a race car...do I care how fast I get from 0 to whatever? I don't think I can even go 90mph and I'm not crazy enough to find out !
  17. Joe. Sorry, my bad. Got you confused with Herman! Guess ObedB did also!
  18. Isaaac. When you get to Texarkana, look me up....I'm Captain for Golf, so I'll be parked in Volunteer section. My overbuilt Jeep (Red) Wrangler will be by coach. BillA. That's exactly what FMCA was! Then we had to have a big building, etc! It goes that way for all Fraternal Organizations also ! $$$$ and we need more $$$
  19. Mine is an ISL 425hp Cummins and 3000 Allison, I can add 50-60 more hp per Cummins and Allison. That does not affect my torque, it would still be 1250. Anything more than that, I might as well get a 500hp+ coach...changing the gearing of a Allison is a lot of $$$$ ! 2012 or 13, 450 Cummins on DEF= a 9 to 12% loss in net HP, per Cummins...how then does he get a 70+ Torque...since the 400 series = 1250?
  20. Update. Never mind the coach info...got it on your other post. Trailer...get a 14' or 16' Featherlight Stacker, your bike goes on top and cooper on bottom. Still leaves room for extras. Easy to tow! Trike, mine is a 2006 Classic Cruiser Ultra, 96cu, 6 forward no reverse, rear end was done in Troup, TX. Had I known that HD had acquired Leland and was building their own, I and about 50 other Shriners in Texas, would have waited. Yes, we did let HD know how we felt....We are now, a big fan of Honda and Kawasaki & get a big discount, plus they don't over heat.
  21. Hoggem. Welcome to the Forum! Per Herman, it leads us back to where are your starting from and are we talking about a week, 10 days, over New Year? If your in a Northern State and have a week...fly to Hawaii !
  22. Glacier is in my bucket list also! Hope to make it before or after the Gillette, WY. Rally! That is a good looking coach, keep the rubber side down and Welcome to the Forum!
  23. I made a posting on the take over by a holding company that is owned by Marcos, at the same time we had the very interesting Posts by Tom B. on BIO Fuel. I totally agree about your fuel cost statement. Human Nature, we spend a thousand to save a dime!
