  1. For late June, all of July & August, you can expect 95 degrees and high humidity in southern Kentucky even to the east. Barren River State Park, a KY resort park, near Mammoth Cave is a nice park that also has a lodge for a meal out if you would like. Mammoth Cave National Park is near there, but I am not sure if the have hookups. If you want to be up near the Ohio River General Butler State Park, another KY Resort Park, just north of I-74 about halfway between Louisville and Cincinnati is a nice park, too. Indian Mountain State Park in Tennessee just south of Jellico, KY on I-75 is a nice quiet park that has hookups if you don't want to travel further north. It is on the Cumberland Plateau and may be a little cooler.
  2. No they are not out of business. Last week Dennis was at the Great Lakes Area rally, June 4-6,2015.
  3. I was told it was air over hydraulic, but I sold it in 2008, so I am not positive. I do know the power steering was a separate system.
  4. I had air over hydraulic brakes on a Harney Coach Renegade produced by SMC on a Magnum chassis. Safari and Beaver used the same chassis. I liked the braking much better than the air brakes I have on a Freightliner chassis on our current motor home. The air over hydraulic has feel that is closer to an auto. Where as you need additional braking, you push harder. The air brakes I now have, you have to hit hard first and then ease off. Just me, I like the feel of the air over hydraulic. PS: Some call this system Air Over Oil.
  5. The carpet in the closet is attached to floor in our coach. To remove the floor and carpet there are 4 large head screws and 2 dry wall screws. When all the screws are removed, the floor lifts out then for easy access to the engine. I also have a small section of floor in the bedroom that removes the same way to access the secondary fuel filter to change it.
  6. The only reason I bought two is that NAPA sold a belt to me that I had carried for 2 years as a spare. That belt was 6 mm shorter than the original. On the road mine broke, and I could only find a 6 rib. But it worked from central Illinois to Gillett, WY and back home. I installed one of the 8 rib belts in about 15 minutes. Taking up the closet floor and reinstalling it took about an hour. None of the work was hard, just a little cramped working around the closet doors.
  7. Freightliner can give you a Gates number that matches their belt. Or they can give you the specification. IE: 8 rib & ??? millimeters long. The cost is about 1/2 the price of a Freightliner belt. I bought two at the Freightliner dealer in Rapid City, SD, so I would have a spare about 2 years ago. I think the two were about $60.00.
  8. Yes, to shut off the ice maker, but the door frame heater if you have one can draw as much current.
  9. The ice maker can draw more current than you want. Also, check to see if the climate switch is set turn on the door heaters to reduce condensation. I have operated our whole coach for 4 to 5 days on 4-6 volt deep cycle batteries. We conserve lights at night, make coffee in the morning, and watch TV for 2 to 3 hours late evening. No furnace heating during this time. I would then start the engine for about 1 hour which will charge coach batteries faster than the 120 volt generator. Following that I would get 4 more days before needing charge.
  10. If you have a smart phone (mine is and iPhone), try these apps: Allstays- Camp & RV, Camp Finder, FMCA, GS Camping, Allstays-ONP Walmart, Passport America, RVOVERNIGHTPRO, and RecGovCamp. I have found that in different areas, one app does not find all campgrounds, but Allstays-Camp & RV and Passport America are my first go to apps.
  11. The failures to "View New Content" are not consistent. Just now, I could not View New Content since last visit and the system would not let me change to view last 24 hours. Then my logon disappeared. Went back to Main, and my logon was there. So I logged out and relogged in. Went to Forums and was able to View New since last visit. The problem of not being able to View New since last visit seems to happen most often on weekends. Most of the time I am able to change to last 24 hours, but as I said earlier I could not this time. I think the problem is that the two systems do not communicate logons consistently..
  12. Can you test bringing in the slides with the engine running. I have higher voltage from the engine alternator and my operators manual states to operate the slide with the engine running. If the voltage is low from the batteries when on shore power or generator, higher current is needed to operate the slide motors which could cause the breaker to trip early.
  13. A converter changes 120 volt AC to 12 volt DC to operate lights, charge batteries, etc. You probably have a GFI outlet that is tripped or a breaker in you main power panel. If you are trying to operate without shore power and you have an inverter that changes 12 DC to 120 volt AC then there may be breakers on the front or side of the inverter.
  14. There are area work lights that are about 8"dia and usually mounted flat on the drivers side to make it easier to hook or unhook utilities. One or two of those could be mounted on the rear of the coach. You may be able to find a standard porch lite to mount on the rear. Any light you add, you would want to be sure they cannot come on while driving.
  15. If you can the CM Russell museum in Great Falls, Montana and Buffalo Bill Cody museum in Cody, WY are worth a day in each.
  16. Either US 26 or 89 going south out of Jackson will get you there. We have used both. Not interstate, but good roads. Forgot to mention, take a float trip in the Tetons. Choose the last one on the day you want to go, more wildlife to see. This is not whitewater, but an easy drift down stream with a guide piloting the float the whole trip. We have taken a trip three times, two on the north end and one on the south. You can get a card of the details from one of the "What to See and Do" racks.
  17. Not all VISA cards do this. Which supplier of your card does this?
  18. We like Colter Bay Campground with full hook ups which is just into the Tetons north end. From there you can travel day trips in your auto to the north end of Yellowstone or south end of Tetons. If you like western music, there is one of the FLYING ? western dinner and music ranches. Glacier's Going to the Sun Road across usually isn't open until about July 1st. I don't think you can take the motor home across, but if you don't want to drive your auto, they have vintage tour busses to make the trip across and back. If you are there when the whole road isn't open you can drive part way and turn around. We like the east side best due to scenery. The west side is more of a tourist trap, my opinion. Since you will be in Denver, you might consider stopping for a few days at Rocky Mountain NP in Estes Park, CO. Drive across and back in you auto to see all the scenery. Fall River Road, gravel, usually opens about July 4th and return to Estes Park via Trail Ridge Road, paved, which should be open.
  19. Call FMCA at 1-800-543-3622 or 1-513-474-3622 and ask for Doug Uhlenbrock. Tell him that you want to volunteer, and he will probably direct you to the Volunteer Coordinator in the Mid-West Area, the host area. Or if you are already registered or want to register, Doug can help by adding your volunteer choice to your registration information. Doug's direct number is 1-513-388-5276. Probably anyone that might answer his number can help you, also.
  20. If you have been a member of the military or will make a small donation to 1 of 2 military charities, you can join the Pentagon Federal Credit Union. They have several different credit cards you can receive. Ours is called the Cash Rewards VISA Platinum and gives 5%, not 5 cents, credit for all fuel purchases where you pay at the pump. We have used it at Flying J's, Walmart, Sam's Club, and several others. If you go inside and pay, you will not get the 5% back, only 1%. All other purchases, you receive 1% back. You do not have to apply for the credit, it is taken off your bill each month. We saved over $200 last year.
  21. We have traveled 90,000 + miles in our 2006 Fleetwood Expedition with a 300HP Cat C-7 engine. Usually we travel interstates because of the long distances on our trips cross country. We tow a Chevrolet Equinox everywhere and travel about 67 mph. Local highways 57 mph to keep in 6th gear in Economy Mode. Our average is 6.7 mpg.
  22. If you install the second air conditioner, you may find it to be a lot less expensive to wire a separate 20 amp cord with a protection breaker to just handle the air conditioner when you need it. A lot depends on if you are able to access just the one circuit to the second air conditioner in you coach..
  23. Just a correction. FMCAssist is a free benefit of FMCA for medical evacuation and will return your motor home if needed. FMCA Roadside Assistance is discounted to FMCA members, but you need to pay for it. FMCA Roadside Assistance is primarily used for troubles on the road with your motor home. One feature is winching service, now that is not recovery service to lift your motor home out of a ravine; but maybe you are in a campground parked on grass and due to rain, you are stuck, FMCA Roadside Assistance will tow your motor home out as long as the tow truck would not also get stuck. Many campgrounds have gravel roadways and several other roadside assistance services will not winch you out if the tow truck is not on pavement. I currently do not have FMCA Roadside Assistance, but when my current contract runs out, I will.
  24. I took a Motor Home driving course a few years ago, and one statement the instructor made was that 1 out of 5 motor homes that have ever towed a vehicle has had a breakaway. I use the SMI Air Force One breaking system, and I had a breakaway. Before that I did have one of the units that you had to install between the drivers seat and the brake pedal. It actuated the brakes and caused both front brakes to seize. Had to replace both disks and the calipers. I really like the Air Force One and would not be without it.
