  1. Just bought a 2022 Grand Cherokee to tow behind our Tiffin. I want to continue to use my NSA Read Brute Elite surge brake system but am having a heck of a time figuring out where to drill a hole for the brake cable or if I even can drill one in a workable place. NOT a lot of room and what there is happens to be VERY close to the cat converter. I called NSA who has NOT done any 2022s but who pointed me to one of their best installers who was very helpful but who has also NOT done a 2022 either. Going off his latest 2021 GC, he had me pull back the carpet and cut out the rubber liner and insulation to look for certain landmarks and, low and behold, they weren't there because the 2022 changed. alot from the 2021! So my question is, has anybody with a 2022 or newer GC run a cable for the NSA product and if so, can you post a few pics of the engine compartment and maybe the interior where the cable comes through? Otherwise, I'm going to have to get a new braking system and break away cable Thanks, Mark
  2. I know that I haven't seen any other Motorhomes like the one I now own. It's a 2002 Rexhall Rose Air Diesel Pusher with a Cummins ISC 350HP. It has 2 slides, a side radiator and no TV over the front seats. In this image it's just about ready for it's Winter nap. With any luck next year it will be napping in warmer weather.
  3. The snow in the park and around Williams mostly melted. But they had enough to close I-10 over by Flagstaff for a while. I am glad I could stay an extra day. In ABQ tonight at Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post. The owner collects cars and vintage RVs. He also rents out some of the old trailers so you can stay in them. One I like is a old Hudson and proper period trailer hoked up ready to go. Headed to Amarillo tomorow. Bill
  4. I'd love to_but after sitting for 2 years the inside is terribly dirty. The final repair item, the dash is broken where the front cap was jammed up into it, is yet to be repaired. I'm amazed it didn't break the windshield, it just caused a small leak at the top. Then we can bring it home for spring cleaning. I"ve yet to change the oil N filter, it's now been 3 years since the last service. we stayed home during the pandemic, then wintered in Ft. Myers Beach 21/22 winter, and on the way home the damage occurred. So that motor oil has about 4,000 miles on it.. I'm hoping by Labor Day we can have everything ready to go for a "walkabout", as it's called in AU.
  5. Current pricing for a complete NSA Ready Brute Elite II kit is $2699 directly from NSA: here's the link this gives you everything you need from the back of the RV to the baseplate on the toad, including brakes and lighting. Installation would depend on the toad but it's all capable of DIY, if you have even basic skills.
  6. Just be ready for an exciting ride. The problem is that for a stable tow, the front end geometry is not correct for it to be towed backwards. The toe, caster and camber are all set for the vehicle to be stable when moving in the forward direction. If you have a locking steering wheel that can present another problem.
  7. I've decided to switch to 4 down towing and purchased a new jeep Cherokee. I'm trying decide if the Ready brute system is good and simple breaking system is the best choice. we are planning to head west this spring so we will be in the mountains with a gas motor-home. does anybody hear using this tow bar and are they happy with it. also, should I use a mobile tech or take it to a motorhome dealer to have it installed.
  8. My wife comes out and says, "Does this make me look fat?" I answer, "No, your fat makes you look fat! Did that once. On another light side: we are going out to a gala event. I get dressed and walk out. She says, "Your not going to were that are you?" I said, "What, and she replied, "That tie, it doesn't go with that shirt!" I said, "Ok, come pick one out for me." So, as you all know, men are dressed way before a woman gets ready. Many minutes later she comes out and says, "How do I look?" Now I'm the guy that can't dress himself and she's asking me that question. Y'all know what the ansear is: "You look great!" Sorry, off topic, just couldn't resist with a reply. As I stated, my wife gets up all the time to move around in the MH. Most likely that will not stop.
  9. I have posted this question in other Forums, but no one has experienced the same problem, or has been able to provide a viable solution so far. But, my dash goes dark, RPMs go to zero, tranny panel dark as well, and I find myself coasting along with a dead engine. I guide the coach to the emergency lane. It sits about 2 and 1/2 hours, and we are ready to go again. This problem has existed since July 2018. I replace a few parts and the Coach will run for about 3,000 miles before it starts acting up again. My primary question is....if the ECM were to be the culprit, would it cut the power off to the dash as well as killing the engine? Cummins Repair Shop doesn't seem to think it will on a Motor Home. In fact they don't think it is the ECM. Any experience out there with this type of shutdown?
  10. Our MH is at an RV dealership now, they have a fiberglass body man that works there as needed. Progressive Ins. is OK with this arrangement so I agreed. The MH front cap and other small items should be done NLT mid-Jan. When that is done, Jan, 30 it take it to a different RV dealership to have the 20' main awning replaced, that should take 2 days max. After that I make a trip to Speedco for oil N filter changes for drive engine and genset engine, If I can't hire my neighbor to do that work. I need to clean all the woodwork inside. Next is carpet cleaning, but I'll need warmer weather so the carpet dries properly. After all that is accomplished she'll be ready to use by spring. I hope next summer we can do a lot of in-state camping, I'm getting too old(81 Christmas day) to drive long-distances now. Well, we do want to do the Michigan lighthouse grand tour and see the UP of MI attractions. Crossing the Mackinac Bridge will be a blast, high-profile vehicles have a special set of circumstances to follow.
  11. I am very frustrated this is my first time doing this. i bought a 200W suitcase solar panel Atem power and have used it and at night my batteries die even after running the generator a few hours at night. I waking up at 4am to the inverter beeping showing a ac overload shutdown. I have a residential fridge that I hate. LOL! I set my heater to 58 at night and it starts the next time the next time only the fan starts propane wont stat on. finally inverter has everthing shut down. At night before bed when I run my generator and the propane heat the propane alert goes off. I Definently need some advice. I'm freezing and have melted ice cream in the morning LOL Ready to go back to a resort to do full hook ups.
  12. We found while traveling this past summer, to stay off the interstates as much as possible but instead use secondary roads. I never could find out what happened to the billions and billions of dollars that a previous administration allocated for shovel-ready projects to repair and maintain our interstate highway system.
  13. Got this figured out after chatting with the certified Norcold tech at the local RV shop that replaced my cooling unit last year. I was thinking I might have a chimney issue after pulling the cap off the roof and not seeing a deflector shield on the top of the unit. I fished a length of 14 gauge copper wire through the screen and swung it towards the front of the refrigerator and found the deflector a couple of inches back where Winnebago had originally installed it. The Norcold installation instructions recommended the shield be placed flush to the back of the refrigerator extending up to the roof cutout so I was thinking the heat might not be exhausting as efficiently as it should. However, this situation would have caused problems years ago and it hadn't. The Norcold tech told me that a chimney issue would present when running on 120 VAC too so his guess would be either a dirty burner or a bad gas regulator since I was only having problems running on LP. He said the older burners were chromed and tended to get all roughed up over time leading to a dirty flame and regulators tended to relax over 10 years old. I don't have a manometer yet so I bought a new burner off him and headed home. I pulled the old burner and sure enough, the edges were rough and not sharp and crisp as the technician said they should be. I probably could have wire brushed the old one and gone with that but I had the new one in hand at a reasonable cost so in it went. The swap out was about a 15 minute job. I cleaned up the old burner to keep as a spare and ran the refrigerator for a week with no more issues. We are ready for the road again. Thanks again for your assistance Rayin. I am still thinking the blower fan on the cooling unit is a good idea and will likely install one soon. Where did you connect yours too? Did you connect directly to the power board, splice into the condenser fans wiring, or pull 12VDC from somewhere else? Did you use a solenoid switch or does it run nonstop?
  14. We've been using our Ready Brute Elite Tow Bar with integrated braking system by NSA products for several months now and really like it. Just curious about other's experiences with the system. Brian & Shawnna Johnson Lyf Uninterrupted(Youtube)
  15. Hello everyone! We are getting ready to embark on a 7,000 mile trip starting in Orlando heading to Las Vegas then to Southlake Tahoe and on to redwood national and down to Monterey back to Vegas and then to Monument Canyon then off to Chattanooga and then back to Orlando. This is our first West Coast trip. We’ve traveled a lot and our 40’ class A Monaco Dynasty on the east coast but I hear some of those mountain ranges out west can be quite challenging if not outright scary. My question is, has anybody ever traveled from Southlake Tahoe to redwood national using 580 I’m on “Roadtrippers” website planning my trip and I see lots of jagged roadway and don’t know if it’s all mountain traveling. If someone could give me a heads up on what to expect, it doesn’t look like there’s too many fuel stops either. I carry 120 gallons of fuel. I get about 12 miles a gallon flat running. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, that run to Big Sur should be really beautiful but again, don’t know if there any real hazards running out of Sequoia through Santa Rosa… Thank you for input!
  16. The campground is Bourne Scenic Park, it's been around a while. Camp there since a kid in a tent, tent trailer, travel trailer and MH. Nice place on the canal, hard to get a site. Only one close without going over a bridge. They are supposed to be building 2 new bridges in the future, they keep pushing it out and are just doing patch work now. At least the small seafood shacks are getting ready to open. That's where you get the good stuff. Just got my quahog license so I'll be out there soon digging, still need waders.
  17. I have never towed one but this is what it says in a owners manual I found on line. I would read what it says in the one in the car. It also had warnings about blocking the air flow causing overheating of the transmission when being towed. This is from page 290. Vehicle Care, Recreational Vehicle Towing Recreational vehicle towing means towing the vehicle behind another vehicle, such as a motor home. The two most common types of recreational vehicle towing are known as dinghy towing and dolly towing. Dinghy towing is towing the vehicle with all four wheels on the ground. Dolly towing is towing the vehicle with two wheels on the ground and two wheels up on a device known as a dolly. Here are some important things to consider before recreational vehicle towing: . What is the towing capacity of the towing vehicle? Be sure to read the tow vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. . What is the distance that will be traveled? Some vehicles have restrictions on how far and how long they can tow. . Is the proper towing equipment going to be used? See your dealer or trailering professional for additional advice and equipment recommendations. . Is the vehicle ready to be towed? Just as preparing the vehicle for a long trip, make sure the vehicle is prepared to be towed. Caution Use of a shield mounted in front of the vehicle grille could restrict airflow and cause damage to the transmission. The repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty. If using a shield, only use one that attaches to the towing vehicle. Dinghy Towing RS Model with Automatic Transmission Caution If the vehicle is towed with all four wheels on the ground, the drivetrain components could be damaged. The repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty. Do not tow the vehicle with all four wheels on the ground. Good luck Bill
  18. I'm not sure how helpful this is, but 20 years ago, when going through finantial hardship from losing my job, i took our first motorhome to a consignment lot. I let them know what i owed on it and that i needed to get at least that much for the sale. It sat there for about 8 months, but ultimately it was reposessed. The process was easy and they were helpful cleaning the coach and getting it ready for sale.
  19. Like everybody else, I'm ready to start complaining about how hot it is rather than how cold it is.😆
  20. Thank you for asking. Your query is right to ask. i had an experience summer of 2022 that will help. Roadside Assistance was needed twice during my 11000 mile trip. First time was Sunday in Des Monies, Iowa. My call for assistance went unheeded, my second call to report no one has shown, went something like this, Sorry, it is Sunday and some employee don't show let me call a second vendor. Spending all day in Hardee's parking lot with no service showing I had an RV Roadside Service get my RV going at the tune of Two Hundred Ninety Dollars. Time spent waiting for help was 8 a.m. to 5 P.M. September 18, my wife's birthday. We were to have cake and ice cream with my brother had we not been delayed. My second experience was a few weeks later in Independence Missouri. My Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk during Death Wobble had broken the tow bar and jeep nose. It was now being towed by dolly. I failed to properly latch the Jeep and it came over the dolly to rest on the tongue. I called Roadside Assistance. Once again no show. I waited the proposed time limit of 180 minutes then called Road Side Assistance reporting no one showed. A second vendor was called. I jacked the motorhome loose. Drove to Harbor Freight for a better Jack, then to Home Deport where a kind employee cut a 4x4 in to short blocks. After blocking and jacking the Jeep was once again ready for travel. I hope my experience helps guide you. In my many years of travel I needed help three times and never had a positive experience.
  21. Where would you put the camera? If, and I say IF, I were a burglar I would "case" the property during the day time and see if there were a camera, door bell or otherwise on the premises. Where is it pointing. Approach from the dead spot and spray paint the camera. Do my 2 minutes of havoc and leave. That's if it were a smart burglar. There are 3 types of smart ones, some with a little smarts, and dumb ones. The smart ones have a lot of money and seldom get caught The somewhat smart ones get caught more often. The dumb ones, well, they are all in prison or going to prison someday. There is no security that is 100% fail-safe. Even sitting in a chair with a shotgun at the ready is not 100% that you will not get hurt, or worse. With all that said, Ring is a good system. I have a system for the S&B with a lot of different monitors including 4 cameras. IF i were to get a system for he Class A it would be Ring. If you do decide to get a system PM me for a simple network solution. You will want it to have access to The Ring Cloud. If you do get the cloud it will be $100 a year for their monitoring service.
  22. My husband and I recently bought a used Winnebago Class A and now a 2007 Honda CRV. I was able to find a used Ready Brute/Brake tow bar that has connectors for a Blue Ox base plate. No luck finding a used base plate of any brand and am looking at new ones. Before starting this quest, we knew NOTHING about towing and are still sadly lacking. Any recommendations on the brand of base plate? Once the base plate is purchased, what other equipment will we need prior to doing a search for someone to install it all? THANKS!
  23. This past February 1, 2022 at age 62 I celebrated my 40th service anniversary with my large energy company employer. During the service anniversary I had several colleagues of all ages asking me when I would retire. My response was "in a couple of years" but if being really honest at the moment my answer is "I don't know". I greatly enjoy my senior manager role in the company, enjoy my team which spans three generations (Millenials, Gen X'ers, and a couple of Boomers), enjoy the business contributions my team makes, etc. I (and especially my wife) like very nice compensation package. The wife and I are financially ready for retirement with a very significant nest egg (nice size 401k account, good pile of company stock awards and rather big lump sum pension monies waiting). I'm not physically, emotionally, mentally ready to "slow down" yet. I don't want to be like several somewhat older colleagues who retired and after six months returned to full time jobs because they didn't know what to do with their time. Several forum members have very successfully crossed the bridge from full time career to a very enjoyable retirement. My questions for the "retirees" are: How did you know when it was time to retire? Did you develop a plan for how to spend your time in retirement or just "go for it"? How long before retirement did you start thinking /planning your retirement before making the decision to retire? I have no fears about finances in retirement. My fear is not yet knowing how to spend my time during retirement. I don't want to become one of those grumpy old men who sits in a recliner watching cable news all day and complaining about everything. Thanks in advance for your insights.

  25. I have a 2019 Winsport Class a on a Ford F53 Chassis. While driving up to Lake Shasta I was cruising along about 65 when the ABS light came on, the coach then lost power and down shifted on its own. As I made my way over to the shoulder the light cleared, and the coach ran fine. We continued on our way. We stopped for lunch about an hour later. I then started up the coach and continued to the lake. We camped there for two weeks. When we were getting ready to leave, I went to start the coach and when I turned the key the lights on the dash came on but it would not start. there was no sound like one makes when the battery is low. I checked the battery voltage, and it was 13.1volts. I could not get the shifter to move out of park. I checked the fuses however I did not take each one out. I ended up having to have the coach towed to Redding to have the local Ford dealer look at it, the drive shaft had to be taken off to tow it. To date it still is there as they state that thier to busy to get to it. Any ideas as to what may have happened?
