Bill & Brett, You are both right on the mark about designers. Before any man, woman or child can be a designer of cars, boats or RVs they should have to spend 1 year (a full 12 months) in an internship doing the mechanical work. An example from our past, who ever told the designers of the 57 Chevrolet that the air conditioner box should cover the complete right side of the engine where to changing the spark plugs required removing the fender well. I know you can think of a lot more. Gosh venting feels good. Have a good day.

Steve, how is the window you need to replace held in? If it is a match to your old window it should go back in in reverse order of the unit you removed. Be sure to have sealant handy when putting it back in.

You didn't say how old your son is. This would help, narrow it down. It could be any where from a turtle to a cheerleader. How about no pet and just take him to shelters where you travel and let him help out for a little while. Pets to pet and no food to carry or worrying about the heat or cold when the pet must be left in the coach.

Moisheh, I have put close to 40,000 miles on my G670s and not one bit of trouble. They have worn smooth and flat across the tread. I have out more then 150,000 miles plus on Goodyear tire and have had very good results. That being said I have been through Firestone 500 and I think it was the 727. My last Firestone 500 (company car) were replace several times. I had 12 different tires put on and replaced. I'm sorry but there is no way I, myself, would ever install Firestones on any car. My wife, while I was out of town, had firestones put on her Caddy. With less the 10,000 miles the front driver side tire desinigrated and tore the fender off the car. Firestone said send the tire into them and they would evaluate it. Guess what IT WAS MY FAULT. Michelins are good tire and so are Gooyear G670s. Nuff said and just my thoughts.

Brian & Ellie, Welcome to the Forum. If you aren't members of FMCA, join and visit different chapter rallies. You can find them on this web site and in the magazine. You will meet lot of nice folks and visit different parks. Who knows you might even find one to join. Good luck and Happy RVing.

John, as Brett said, Welcome to the Forum. We had a 32' Monaco Windsor DP. I had the SteerSafe unit installed on it. I didn't see much difference. I, on my own, added longer eye bolts to the springs so I could get more tension. It did improve the steering. However when we went through Deming, NM we went to the factory for a tune up. "Oh my goodness, you can't do that" was their response. They replaced all four springs and eye bolts, at no charge. I did not see any difference from what I had done but it was still better then the original springs and bolts. My opinion is that for the money spent(aprox. $400.00 6 years ago), I would try a better steering dampener aka shock absorber. Try that first before, it may not help but it can't hurt and is less expensive. Also you might take your coach to a truck alignment shop and tell them your problem. There are things they can do that might help, it doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck,

Joe, Welcome to the Forum. If I understand, a 1979 Revcon Motor Home is a General Motors 455 ci motor with a transaxle for front wheel drive. If I am right there is no transfer case. You have a transaxle. Oldsmobile was the first GM Front Wheel Drive car followed by the El Dorado. You might want to look up the transaxle to see how much fluid it takes. I do not know if the unit also has a defferential behind the transmission or not. That may be what you are refering to as the transfer case. Good luck and again Welcome to the Forum.

bcairport, Welcome to the Forum. Several year ago I replaced my ONAN Generator (4KW). I got it from Colorado Standby. They were very helpful and had the best pricing at that time. You may contact they as follows: Colorado Standby 4758 N. Chestnut St. Colorado Springs, CO 80907 866-888-6111 Ask for Brad. Have all your information with you Model Number and KW's. Also check your size of your unit. (is it a 4KW ONAN?) Brad will tell you how much air space you need to have for your generator to work long and well. Hope this is helpful.

Tom, As the saying goes "you are never too old to learn." And that is what I love about RVing. You get to learn something new each and every time you go out.

Joe, as Brett may have already said, Welcome to the Forum. The GM 454 (7.4) is a great engine. The basic engine is a real workhorse. The following is just my opinion. I feel that any coach up to 34' is just about the max for a gas engine. 37' might be a little too much for the 454. That being said, if you drive it right it should do the job for you. You might want to take I-80 across Nebraska and Wyoming. There aren't as many mountains that way and it is a nice trip. You might also consider I-40 through Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. Lots of flat areas along the way, plus who doesn't want 100 plus weather this time of the year. Have fun and enjoy your trip.

Bill we will be going through Colorado Springs next week. Please list the name of the truck stop if you can. I would like to have our tires balanced there. Thanks,

When having my coach serviced, the dealer said they didn't know what filter my coach took. I found the number in my owners manual. Went back to the parts department with the number. He could not cross referance it so he called NAPA with my number. They gave him the number and he told me that it would take about 10 days, but NAPA had 3 in stock. I told him I would go to NAPA and he said " lets keep them honest" and said his price would be $109.00 I went to the NAPA store, they said yes they had the filter for $189.00. I said thanks but I would go back to the dealer. He asked what they had quoted. I told him and he said lets see what he could do. He came back with, $89.00. I said OK and when he brought it out it had several years of dust on the box. So, the reason I told the story, take your number to your local NAPA store and have them cross referance it and I bet they will have your filter.

Roadtrek 200 Storage Compartment Replacement Hinge
hermanmullins replied to birdman4skip's topic in Type B Motorhomes
Skip & Wendy, Welcome to the Forum. Did you get any manuals along with the coach? If so you might find the maker of your doors. Call Roadtrek and see if they have the vendor or a source. Check on line for RV salvage and or RV surplus. They are a good source for parts. Good luck and again Welcome to the Forum. -
Unforthuly the american public has come used to entitlements. Free this and free that. So here to all that thank that a fuel location should provide Free everything. Go out and purchase the needed 25 to 40 acres on a major highway for a Truck/RV fuel station. Build a convience store restraunt. Put down 15 to 30 acres of concrete or asphault. Put in several 10 to 15,000 gallon storage tanks. Plus a lot more. Then put in a RV dump station, FREE, that has to be dumped into the very, very large septic system.(Which has to be inspected three or more time per year.) Put water to all the islands so people can fill their water tanks, FREE. and wash the bugs off their coach FREE and even sometimes using the windshield squiges to clean their coach FREE. While leaving a mess for someone else to clean up. And only charge for the fuel(While making less then $0.10 per gallon and having to pay anywhere from 3 to 12% to take your credit card.) Then see how long it would take to turn the site back into a pasture because you didn't make any money(then look at all the people that get mad because you went out of business) I think that Flying J did a great job as long as they could and we as RVer should be thankful they did. I wish Flying J and Pilot the best of luck and hope the continue to provide our needs along the Highways and Byways.

Thanks Tom, The wife and I are going back to Pagosa Springs and then on to Cheyenne. We both love beautiful views. Looking forward to the trip.

Going to Pagosa Springs, CO and was wondering how the Hwy, US 285 between US 169 and Denver. Never been on this road before and was wondering how the road was and if there were any thing special to see. Don't mind the Mountains just bad roads.

Chris, If your Gen set runs as long as you hold down the switch and your remote start doesn't work it would seem that you have a bad switch. Google ONAN and there is a site ask the mechanic. Your question may have already been answered there. I would say that you might have a bad sending unit in your tank and it is reading below 1/4 full and the gen will not run when the gas is below 1/4, just a thought.

King-Dome And Dish Network Receiver After Installation
hermanmullins replied to rguidry's topic in Electronics
Welcome to the Forum. If you leave your receiver on and the Sat Dish on I believe Dish Network will continue to charge you for usage. There is no reason to leave then on and have the dish to continue to search for a sat. Check with Dish Network on how to activate and deactivate your programing. Then turn both off until you plan to use them again and then call Dish Network to activate the receiver. Gook luck and let the folks on the Forum know what Dish Network says. -
OH! you mean on your coach. Larry Welcome to the Forum. Check out Graphic Shops in your area. They can take a picture you have and make a decal. Give them a try.

Kwikee Steps Wont' Extend, at Times
hermanmullins replied to chuckconnie's topic in Type A motorhomes
Chuck & Connie, Welcome to the Forum. Age old addage, If it moves and is not supose to use Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and is supose to use WD 40. Check your connections at the motor. Lube steps. Get a bigger Hammer. As said before, it sounds like the motor is shorted out and needs to be replaced. If you are mechanical you can change it your self. If not consult a tech. Good luck. -
James, The unit from Blue OX is No. BX 1674. I will pick up mine today at United RV in Ft. Worth, TX. If you haven't looked into a braking system might I suggest looking at M & G Enineering in Athens, TX. m-gengineering.com. Their unit for your GMC will run about $1,200.00 installed. They will plumb your coach and install the unit in your GMC. Just give them a look. Congratulations on finding the low milage GMC.

James, Let me welcome you to both the FMCA and the Forum. I have towed a 2003 GMC Yukon XL many miles with no problems. I believe you will need a set of BX1674 Base Plates. That are the ones I have just ordered for my 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab. They look to be easier to install then my last set. One nice thing about the later model Chevrolet Trucks and SUVs is that they do not have a locking pin for the steering wheel. You just hook up, connect cables, put transfer case in neutral & transmission in Park, have wife check that the wheels turn free, turn off ignition, close and lock the doors and go RVing. If you are around Texas send me a message and I will tell you about The Lone Star Chapter of FMCA. Again, Welcome
